Re: Enos Jones Park Closed - Lead Contamination

I understand the need for concern and cleaning the park; however, the parks don't fall directly under the highway so the material falling is drifting to the ground before it lands. I have a hard time believing this debris is only collecting in these parks. The Angie Dickinson's High School grounds are just as close and some residences as well where debris could collect on rooftops and outside space. This a concern for the whole are and not just the parks.

Moloney's Meat Market on Newark is the only true butcher left in the city. He definitely has the skills to do what you need, but to break down game meat just for you he may not have the time or correct permits. You can give them a call though 201-653-1764.

I am no fan of Chris Christie but I have no intention of reading this argument. His weight is irrelevant to the argument of his work in office and your assertion that it does lowers the discourse of your argument. Grow up.

Just took a look at the menu. I have to say I'm not excited. I have high hopes to get a restaurant in that location considering its close proximity to me. After looking at the menu with its high prices and nothing outside of the normal Indian standard fare I'm afraid I'm going to still be looking. I will give it a shot maybe I'll be proven wrong.

I'm listening to the JC fire dept. sounds like a pizza place is on fire and fire is spreading fast. Can get near the plaza full of smoke and roads are blocked off. No PATH delays listed though.

I received it as well. As far as sensitivity is concerned it is a horrible thing. However, I would rather the EBS be used to tell me when a tornado is bearing down on me while I sleep. At that time of night I'm not out and about where I can look for a car. It should have been done better and come over as a simple text message. Now you will have plenty of people like myself who will turn off that function and not be able to get subsequent messages that would maybe help someone out.

As great as it will be to have the corners be ADA compliant, not more than five feet away we have broken pavement caused the tree's root system breaking through. A wheelchair will still need to traverse that before getting to the corner. I did notice that part of that root system did extend into the corners and they removed part of the root. Here's hoping that the tree doesn't now topple onto a homeowner's property or worse someone.

Wow there has been a lot of responses to this thread since I posted and I feel that some of thread may have gone off topic a bit and that I should clarify some things.

First I want to reiterate that while the incident did take place near the low/affordable income housing I am in no way implying that the incident was caused by anyone who lives there. Quite in fact I walk by there enough to talk with residents when I walk by with my dog and to know the the very same stoop they were sitting on has a sign in the door from the resident who lives there asking people not to sit on the stoop.

These types of places exist for a reason and I am not going to assume that just because it happened in proximity to them that they are to blame. More than likely these were individuals from a different part of the city who wandered down here as this type of thing I have not seen happen and I've been here for awhile.

Now to the people saying that I should "man up" and that this type of thing happens in a city I say this. In my 36 years I've had to talk my fair share of abuse both physical and verbal from bullies and assholes. My skin is thick enough that I don't go crying home because i'm called a name and my ego is secure enough that I don't have to bash someone to prove my worth. Which is why we walked away.

As to why we called the non-emergency line. It's because I am a citizen of this city and have manned up to not simply ignore or become apathetic to things that are not right. I know that I am not the only one who walks by and this sort of incident won't be isolated to me, and it is for those others that I did it. If I wanted to see vengeance or retribution I would have stayed to make sure someone came and what became of them or would have concocted some erroneous story to make it more worse than it was to insure someone check it out.

I am fully aware of how big this city is and that the police can be busy but this why cities have precincts and patrols; to divvy up the city so that its more manageable and can respond to a range of incidents. My anger was more directed at the response of what do you want us to to do attitude. To allow this activity to continue unchecked or unchallenged effectively promotes the behavior and stalls any growth this city has of turning itself around. Yes it seems like a small incident but there will never be a large scale incident that makes things better. Change will only come from small incremental change very day and it must be persistent. I care enough about my city to make the call and I'm a bigger man for just walking away in the end.

Actually that would be a contact that would be very useful in this matter. Could you point me in the direction of where I could find that contact info.

Harassed by teens on Manila and 4th

Was just walking down to Grove St Path down Manila street. Something which I do almost every day. Today there was a group(3) of us headed there we got to 4th and we heard yelling from across the street coming from some kids who had to be in their late teens early 20's. they were calling us fat and swearing. I asked if he had a problem and he told me to suck his d*ck and and other derogatory terms regarding our sexuality. We left and walked a couple of blocks. And decided that it was unacceptable to be treated this way and decided to report it to the non emergency number at the nearby district. Essentially we recounted what happened but what pissed me off more than the whole instance that started this was the response from the police which was "what do you want us to do?" I don't know. Maybe keep the streets safe from harassment and make this city the safe on that the politicians are calling a pedestrian city. They said they would send a car but we did not stick around to see if they came.

So disappointed.

Really?! This is what your day is occupied by. I'm annoyed with the children in the park but I'm not about to try and stop them from coming.
