Re: Heads Up: Santander ATM Thefts Across State Today

This was actually happening all night last night in Jersey City, at at least two Santander ATMs. As per my own interrupted sleep and the JCPD scanner. Not sure what the cops did/could do about it.

There are sooo many of these neon sign ?spas? all around JC. I?ve been thinking about this, if they were truly offering spa services, wouldnt they have to be inspected by health authorities, post a sticker on the window type thing? I have no clue how it works. And are they so profitable they will withstand the RE boom, leases going up etc? And who works there, local JC peeps, or could they be involved in stuff like trafficking? And what do I tell my kids they are should they ask?

So many questions...

Actually, at a recent Open House at Prep, I think they were saying they moved a lot of the clubs to a mid-day period, so that students wouldn?t have to choose between teams and clubs, etc.

How? When? Most other school activities are in the afternoon. My kids were already taking off one day a week for Synagogue activities and often missing Saturdays for family activities. Taking off more practices would lose them the interest of the coach as "not being serious".

Why? To stay in business... I?m no proponent of the GF fad but I do think it?s a missed opportunity to cater to the DT crowd of such persuasion (plus the marginal group of customers with actual celiac disease).

I see from the website they are using whole wheat flour. What a missed opportunity to satisfy the gluten free crowd! I thought blinis were traditionally made from buckwheat?

Not sure who to talk to but I do remember jogging there in 2001 or 2002 when they used to have hours open to the public... so it?s been done before.

Meh, the mall is alright, however, Ikea rules apply; never go there on the weekend, and weekdays only before the afternoon rush, or just before closing time.

To limit amount of transfers, take a bus/shuttle from Port Authority bus terminal to EWR. Yesterday coming from JFK I took the Airtrain and E to 42nd Street/PA and it was much quicker than I thought!

Does anyone know if there's a concession stand or any type of food sold at the Lafayette pool on Johnston?

If not, are you allowed to bring your own food?

If not, what's good and available in the immediate area for a quick bite of food?

Thanks.

I don't think anyone is suffering here.

But my guess is the main reason the director chose to go vegan is $$$. Organic cashew milk and vegetables, though pricey, must be way cheaper than organic meats, eggs and dairy products that the parents at this school no doubt would require.

Thanks!

There are two known chromium sites on that block; #76 on 379-381 Eight street and #77 on 383 Eight Street.

This list is from 2009 - I wonder what their current respective status is. Hopefully they will be part of any new development and dealt with in the right manner (if they haven't been remediated already).

A pedestrian bridge would be good, but for now, I do hope developers and/or the city will extend the bike cum pedestrian lane coming from the 2nd St HBLR stop that ends abruptly by Coles and 18th Street. Coles St from 18th Street to 10th St is the best way to avoid the tunnel traffic and I take it frequently on foot and by bike but not after dark since the "underpass" is a bit sketchy, to put it mildly.

User: I really don't understand what you intend to show with the downtown foreclosures you linked to?

A lot of them seem to have been bought at or below market price at the time, and then buyers made stupid decisions like taking out second mortgages or maybe fell upon hard times and stopped paying? Could be other reasons besides pricing that they haven't been swept off the market.

That data can't really be taken as a sign of overvaluation in the downtown market?

Full disclosure: I rent and not in DT.

As far as alleviating pressure on other JC middle schools, I'm curious to know whether this new STEM school is just an expansion of the existing Explore 2000 program at Hudson County School of Technology - or something different. Explore 2000 has a highly competitive admissions process and I believe the students are from all over Hudson County?

So it's definitely not Sandy Hook, but for a day trip for one adult with kids, Brighton Beach is really doable. Take the Path to 9th St, walk down a block and to W4th St and take the B to Brighton Beach. Depending on how far you are from the Path, it's around or less than an hour door to beach. Plenty of places to pick up pierogi, fruit or whatever in Brighton Beach, walk one or two short blocks to the beach. Slightly less crowded than Coney Island. Great people watching, water not always great though.

Another aspect that I don't think was mentioned yet: what about people who do not have a great dining out budget but might enjoy picking up empanadas or other prepared foods at the Farmers Market? I.e. they are not prospective Two Boots et al customers (and maybe their kids are tired of slices of pizza and would rather try something novel but within a pizza slice budget) but people of modest means who might enjoy sitting at the plaza and share a food truck meal. Seems really stupid to cut these people out of prepared foods options at the Farmers Market, food trucks etc.

If I want Food Truck food, I'll get it and it's not like I'm taking anything away from anyone.

The Two Boots owner argument does not apply to me, and frankly sounds like BS

I think what's at MS 4 is the JCBOE Acceleration and Enrichment Program? As per this flyer, prospective applicants should contact their current principal/guidance counselor, not sure how the procedure goes, if you need a recommendation to do the test or not.

Not first hand experience but my neighbors send their kids to St Nicholas School (catholic) on Ferry by Central and love it.

I have also heard good things about P.S. 28, not sure about the situation in Kindergarden but I think they have won several awards for staff, and science projects based in the Reservoir.
