and when will his boss at the no show job be fired for allowing it to go on with either no supervision, demonstrating a lack of management ability or it was a wink and nod that he didn't care that Chico collected a check for no work?

Geez...While Probation is often standard for first offense DUIs, the fact that nothing was given for the "Theft of Services" is horrible. At the very least, he should have to pay all that money back.

3 years probation for ex-Jersey City councilman in DWI case

Khemraj "Chico" Ramchal, the former Ward B councilman whose March 2015 arrest on a drunken driving charge snowballed into a political scandal that left him facing assault and theft charges, was sentenced today to three years of probation and a three-month suspension of his driver's license.

REDACTED at the request of the Jersey Journal.

In Jersey City, disgraced ex-councilman raising money for another disgraced ex-councilman

By Terrence T. McDonald | The Jersey Journal

on June 04, 2016 at 8:26 AM, updated June 04, 2016 at 10:25 PM

The ex-Jersey City Ward B councilman who stepped down in 2009 over public corruption charges is throwing a fundraiser for the ex-Ward B councilman who stepped down last month over public corruption charges.

Phil Kenny, who sat on the council for just 98 days before abruptly resigning following pleading guilty to taking a bribe in 2009, is inviting people to a belated birthday celebration for Khemraj "Chico" Ramchal, who resigned from the council on May 12 after agreeing to plead guilty to a theft charge related to an alleged "no show" job he had with a county agency.

The invitation asks for monetary gifts — or, as the invite spells it, "monitary." It asks anyone who can't attend the party, at the Dante Alighieri Society of Jersey City on June 14, to send their gift to Kenny's home. Ramchal reportedly has a hefty legal tab to pay.

5 things to know about Jersey City councilman's resignation

By Terrence T. McDonald | The Jersey Journal

on May 13, 2016 at 6:24 PM

Jersey City lost a councilman yesterday when Khemraj "Chico" Ramchal stepped down as a result of pleading guilty to charges related to his March 2015 drunken driving arrest.

Ramchal's resignation has kicked into high gear the jockeying among those seeking to replace him as Ward B's council representative until a November special election finds a true replacement.

Here are five things Jersey City residents should know about this week's developments in the case:

1. RAMCHAL WAS INDICTED IN FEBRUARY — County prosecutors revealed last year that the two major charges the councilman faced — assault by auto and theft by deception — were indictable. Yesterday, they confirmed a grand jury indicted Ramchal on Feb. 16 on the assault by auto charge. A second grand jury was scheduled to convene next week on the other charge.

Good question, I was assuming it meant a political position, rather than any publicly funded job. Is any authority or schools job a "public office"?

Anyone want to take a bet he surfaces with some city or county job in the near future? Something like a created for him advisory job at a high school or something, that will keep him in the pension system.

Yes, like the honorable Steve Lipski who is now the assistant principal at Harrison High School.

doesn't "public or elective office" mean any government job at all? I would assume that was the intent of the judge, since one of the charges was theft by deception for his no-show job.

If Eugene McKnight can get hired after stealing over $4 million dollars of taxpayer money, being rejailed for parole violation-then not pay his restitution-anything is possible in Jersey City.

"He's been seeking help and therapy as a result of this awful experience,"

How about the passenger in the taxi who was hospitalized? Did he not have an awful experience too?

What a lowlife. This is the same moron who tried to push an ordinance through that would allow more curb cuts and greatly reduce the on-street parking.

Of course, he'll probably get some new job at some quasi-government agency or some non-profit closely linked to the city. Our tax dollars will continue to pay this idiot's bills one way or another.

Fulop dropped the ball on this one.

Funny he sends out a message calling for Christie to resign, but not a peep on his boy Chico.

Fulop is full of it.

Jersey City's tolerance for bad driving behavior goes right to the top. What is with this city and its shameless acceptance of any sort of bad driving behavior? Is this idiot going to be allowed to vote on pedestrian safety issues? How can this city government pretend to care about vehicular safety if this drunken driver gets off with a slap on the wrist and retains his City Council seat?

Little political fallout for Jersey City councilman hit with DWI charge one year ago

By Terrence T. McDonald | The Jersey Journal
March 14, 2016 at 8:17 PM

JERSEY CITY — One year after Councilman Khemraj "Chico" Ramchal was arrested and charged with drunken driving, an incident that eventually led to him losing his day job at a Hudson County agency, Ramchal has largely escaped political repercussions.

Ramchal, 40, the Ward B councilman, remains under the threat of two indictments, but sources close to him say they believe he'll emerge with nothing more than a license suspension and light punishment via pre-trial intervention. They note that these were his first offenses.

I agree completely.

Hopefully, Chico doesn't enjoy the cell he ends up in...

Laws are for the little people to follow. I'd bet he never sees a day in prison. An apology, some restitution, and probation should do it.

Afterwards, McGreevey can give him a County job through the ex offender program.
