Yea I mean Greenpoint, Bensonhurst, Cropsey, Park Slope, and Crown Heights are all the same, right? Williamsburg is just like Flatbush and Brownsville. Absolutely.

Newark is not part of Hudson County.

And this sort of list is meaningless, because all of Jersey City is being lumped together. If they could somehow split DTJC/Newport from "classic" JC, I have a feeling you would see very different results.

The area on Jersey City / Hoboken border that floods when there is a big storm. I believe after Sandy, residents of some buildings couldn't return for an extended time and their cars in basement were totalled...

Secaucus among best places to live in N.J., study says

Rebecca Panico | The Jersey Journal

The Jewel of the Meadowlands is one of the Garden State's best places to live, according to a recent study.

Secaucus was rated No. 19 on New Jersey Monthly's annual list of the "Best Places to Live in New Jersey" for 2015. The town of more than 18,000 residents is the only municipality from Hudson County to rank above 200 on the list.

The magazine rated 510 municipalities in the state based on home values, property taxes, crime rates, school performance and lifestyle factors such as nearby live performing-arts theaters and full-service restaurants.

"While I understand that this ranking can vary every year, everyday I have the pleasure of meeting with residents, families and school children who make Secaucus a great place year in and year out," Secaucus Mayor Michael Gonnelli said in a statement.

The specific indicators that Secaucus and the other towns were judged included average residential tax bill in 2014; change in average property tax bill from 2012 to 2014; median home-sales price in 2014; change in median home-sales price from 2012 to 2014; total crime rate in 2013 combined with a score for violent-crime rate from that same year, among other factors.

I think Communipaw Avenue (even between The Junction and Pacific Avenue) might be a little better than Dr. King, Jr. around Virginia Avenue or Bergen Avenue around Ege/Kearney Avenues.

Worst Places to Live In NJ. Ready: Camden, Central Ward Newark, Weequahic in Newark, E Port in Elizabeth, Trenton North, Paterson, East Orange, Irvington, anywhere near Communipaw in Jersey City, Passaic, Atlantic City (okay, so they have casinos and some clubs, but try living there), Fourth Street area of Lakewood, Plainfield & Perth Amboy.

Any arguments?

The first time I heard of New Jersey Monthly was five seconds ago reading this post. I agree that JC is way too big to include downtown or greenvile or the heights with one another. It all depends on who you are-I would say downtown would be the worse because a) I can't afford it and b) there seems to be a lot of people who enjoy complaining down there.

I finally looked at this "listing"

As others have proposed, this seems like a very subjective rundown put together by someone with a chip on their shoulder and a rod up their ass.

New Jersey Monthly is GARBAGE and its raison d'etre is to litter the waiting rooms of doctors' offices.

i'd much rather live in newark than irvington. i think when people take these polls they generalize what town sounds bad based on the media and go from there.

i lived in belleville for a few months and we had more hobos begging for change outside of my apartment door and then the eventual breakins than you can imagine were very comforting, yet i spent nearly 3 years staying overnight on and off in newark and never had an issue with being followed there or having my car broken into. i know a lot of brooklynites that have moved to the ironbound and university areas and have no issues. i feel that jersey city has the same issues with areas that are high volume in crime and others that are just desolate and working class people who stay in after work.

there are some beautiful houses here and a lot of great places and things to do if people are willing to look for them and be street smart, but then again anyone that lives here will know that and doesn't care about what the star ledger has to say about our community.

I hate these rankings. They are always devoid of substance, and only consider skewed polls and personal opinions. There are so many factors that contribute to what some believe make a ?great town? that you can never determine the final winner. If you weight taxes more heavily, Secaucus becomes a great place. If you talk about social services, perhaps Weehawken ranks high.
In defense of West New York, I spent Valentines Day there. Bergenline Avenue is the longest commercial strip in the state. Bergenline in WNY loses a lot of the crowding you see in Union City, but maintains a well-kept ethnic flare. It also contains part of Boulevard East (it has a panoramic view of Manhattan from a cliff top for miles). Never once did I feel endangered, or that the place was unkempt. So why again is it last? I would venture the believe that it was last because the politicians didn?t kowtow to NJ Monthly.
I can?t stand the Star-Ledge Online. Its comment page is full of some of the most caustic rhetoric that I?ve seen of any paper on the Internet. That said, what reputable news source asks readers what?s the worst town. Those polls are inaccurate at face and there is not choice to say, ?none of them are the worst?.
Jersey City is a wonderful place for some (including me). In my opinion, its better than any suburb. The suburbs cannot provide the diversity; they cannot provide the public transportation, nor the history, or nor the vibrancy at the price all at once.

The worst PLACE to live in the County is Greenville, in JC. The best place to live is the downtown waterfront in JC North of Liberty Park, and the Hokoken waterfront.

There is no way to "average" a city as diverse as Jersey City anymore than averaging downtown Manhattan (SOuth of 95th St.) with Bed-Stuy, Jamaica, or Far Rockaway.

The comparison of the different citys is comparing apples to oranges, nearly 1/2 the population of hudson county is Jersey City. It is like asking the worse place in Essex County and I bet Newark will be the place. Because these two cities are more known the rest of the cities in those counties because they have a larger population.

Unless you speak spanish, Union City and North Bergen aren't much better, and there are many factors to consider.

Now if they mentioned public transit or another number of factors Jersey City would be rated better.

I think it's pretty believable that Jersey City is the worst place to live in Hudson County. Jersey City, by far, has some of the worst/most dangerous neighborhoods in the county and is definitely more urban than the other cities/towns (not that urban is bad, imo, but usually people equate suburbs with better quality of life).

Why is this shocking to you? And why is East Newark bad? Just because it has the word Newark in it?

I think you are reading way too much into my last sentence: I was simply expressing my surprise at JC being the WORST place in Hudson County, and I was highlighting the fact that it was in first place by a margin of more than twice the amount of votes. I mentioned East Newark only because it happened to be the city in second place. You know, that whole thing about being thorough and providing all relevant information.

I am no JC apologist, but I do not think this is the worst place to live in Hudson County.

Before we all panic if you didn?t know this all stems from the NJ Monthly magazines just published ?Best Places to Live?.

Here is the link:

NJ Monthly ranking piece

They did it in 2008 and now again in 2010. The results are BS. The number one place to live is now Bedminster Township. Yet it was number 106 in 2008. Also on the list is number 14 Peapack-Gladstone Borough but amazingly enough it was number 396 in 2008. Another is number 37 Quinton Township in 2008 it was number 470. The ranking is either screwed up or somebody has been putting something in these towns water supply. Wow!

Side note our neighbor Secaucus was number 11 in 2008 sadly in just a mere 2 years it has dropped to number 182!!! What could have happened?

PS ? Good news we JC (402) beat Hoboken they were 476.

Here is the today's JJ piece about the rankings....

hahaha.. East Newark? EN has like 2,400 people! Probably attributable to the doggie poo on all the sidewalks. Harrison an EN are the sleepiest towns I've ever encountered in my life.

Funny
