It's a move that makes no business sense and is destined to fail. If the company can not afford the move or higher rents and doesn't have that type of cash flow, they will go under quickly.
They would need a huge immediate surge in business to stay afloat. If the owners don't have the money to invest in their own business and are relying on donations of a few thousands bucks, that says all you need to know. This type of business is not going to see the type of sales increase they will need to stay in that building and will be gone fast. Their best move would have been maybe to move into one of the cheaper spots in an existing building or to increase marketing efforts for their current location in hopes of getting more sales until they can actually afford to make this move without begging.

Surprise! The haters are out. Here we have an incredible family owned business who has contributed to Jersey City for a decade, who are merely asking their PATRONS to help contribute to a big move with will help to expand their business and offer a better retail experience (one that JC desperately needs. IDK about you but I don't feel my best when shopping at rainbow.) They are also not asking for something for nothing as each contribution comes with the promise of merchandise or services. It's frankly not our business to ask why they chose not to pursue a business loan. Ultimately they are asking their loyal customers and friends to donate IF THEY CAN AND WANT and again, receive something for their generosity. It doesn't matter if you like their business but for ONCE can JCLIST not because a big hole for shit talking. Also, I love the comment about no good businesses going into the new space...you're right. We need another fucking deli not many small family owned businesses with great merchandise and community building. I need another place to buy a pork roll. UGH! VIVA LA TREASURE.

Doesn't this kind of fit in with where the area is going, premium rentals and vintage clothing=hipsters?

I have no problem with people asking for this type of support. Personally, though, I'd really have to be behind the concept before I'd put a cent into it.

I understand their need to expand, and this is going to sound a bit nitpicky, but isn't it a little weird to exist as a vintage clothing shop inside a shiny new (kind of sterile) building? I would think that everything that a vintage clothing curator stands for is against anything new/shiny/sterile.
Honestly though, good for them and I hope they succeed because there is a market for this type of place.

This is a capitalist society, and what they are doing is 100% in accordance with capitalism. I'd never donate in a million years because the idea of donating money so a for profit business can expand and make even more money is ludicrous to me. However, I won't impose my opinions on others. If other people choose to spend their money on this purpose then let them. My problem is when people (countries) repeatedly engage in this type of fiscal mismanagement and then expect a bailout, but that's a topic for another thread.

Thank you so much! WhoElseCouldIBe ProdigalSon BobNesta
Unfortunately, a loan was not an option for us. Even if it was, we would struggle to pay back a loan at this time as we are about to take on an expensive relocation and large rent increase. It was not an easy decision to do a kickstarter campaign, however we have grown out of our current locations and need to make this move. Having the extra capital to move will also help us to offer our customers more than we can now? the ability to shop our full inventory without an appointment and in-house tailoring, sewing classes and more. It will also help us to create an in house photo studio where we can get our business online, helping us to make ?more money? so that we can afford to stay in our 'pricier? new location. We appreciate the feedback on our rewards, and we have changed the styling consultations to merchandise.. we had actually planned on doing that anyway so thanks for the encouragement on that. We have created our rewards with our customers in mind and if they do not appeal to you, you do not have to pledge. Thank you to those who have supported us with it so far and who have supported our business into this 10th year! We look forward to serving you another 10 years and hope that we can make something you are proud of!

How is asking for money creative? Holding a vintage costume parrty, complete with Era specific food and drink would be creative. This is just lazy begging.

Still can't believe nothing but crappy shops are moving into this prime real estate. Half of them - probably this one, won't see an upswing in business and will be gone within first two years. This is not what the area needs.
Restaurants / Bars / or a Deli would be much better suited for that spot. I suppose the liquor shop will do fine... but surprised they just refurbished the space they are in now to move across the street.

Hey haters, relax. If you don't want to contribute, that's fine, but no need to rail against it. It's all voluntary, anyways. And they are a local, small business - it's not like the GAP is asking for a handout.

This is going to be unpopular here but screw it I'm going to go out on a limb for these guys even though I barely know them and haven't bought a vintage piece since college.
These guys have been super involved in this community and their store is great for Downtown. I hope they make their fundraising goal and open a super sweet spot and can continue to support this community for years to come.

This could be justified if they asked for a "loan" from us. Put in $75 now and you will get back your $75 later PLUS a tshirt or era or whatever the heck that is.
I am all for giving to non profits. I am part of a non profit myself. To me this is post was odd, but then again people can do whatever they want with their money.

$20 to buy a t-shirt so I have the privilege of giving free advertising to your store? No thanks.
The $50 swag bag also seems like more free advertising for your store, but you already suckered six people into that one, so I must commend you there. Why not borrow the money like most normal businesses would, or hold a special "moving sale" (stores do gimmicks like that all the time) to generate some extra cash to get the funds to move? This is a capitalist society you know.

its incredibly presumptuous especially for such weak rewards. But mostly it's just ridiculous to ask people to fund the expansion of your business. Wanking motion is the exact reaction my brain had upon reading this.

Well, for $75 you get to learn the right "era" for your body, so there's that...

Hi everyone! As you may have heard Another Man's Treasure Vintage store is going to be moving into the new Charles & Co. building this summer and merging our Grove Street location with our vintage showroom and workspace on Brunswick Street. We are looking forward to offering everything under one roof in this new location, as well as expanding our selection and business!
We are trying to raise some extra funds to help us with this move and have created a kickstarter campaign to help us do so. We have some great rewards for all size pledges and will be adding new incentives over the next couple of weeks. Please help spread the word and help us to create our best shop ever! xx AMT https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1 ... re-vintage-store-move-and
