I agree 100%, I wish more actual farm were represented. It's certainly not for a lack of space. I wonder if farms just find it worth the time/movie to set up shop in Hamilton Park.

I think Stella's Empanadas was at JSQ one year. The demographics is different at JSQ. Probably not enough business.

I love Stella's Empanadas! Every year, I seem to place at least two one-dozen orders. They last quite a bit in the fridge, and are easy to throw into the microwave or toaster oven to heat up. The shell looked a little different yesterday (a bit more orange than their usual paler hue) but I didn't try one yesterday. As for Stella's going to the JSQ Farmers Market, it seems like you are out of luck. Here is a listing of the markets and events they will be attending: http://www.stellasempanadas.com/markets---events.html

I thought the whole issue at Grove St was JC banned prepared foods - I wasn't sure if that also applied to HP. Thankfully it sounds like it does not. Thanks for the intel...

So much misinformation... There is no prepared food ban ANYWHERE. There is enforcement of the law that specifies food trucks being a given distance from a brick-and-mortar restaurant, and there are regulations on what percentage of an event must be from traditional farm sources in order to be able to call itself a FARMERS market and receive city money in the form of subsidies, etc. As for the Hamilton Park Farmers Market, it was great yesterday (perfect weather, good attendance) but it really is not a farmers market, at all. They should just call it Hamilton Park Open Market, or Hamilton Park Food Fest, or something along those lines. There was ONE farm-related stand. The rest were prepared food vendors. As for the "kale salad" lady, I ended up buying some incredible food there. She was right next to JC Wingery (or, is it Wingery JC?) of whom I wrote a review in a different thread. I am sure I will be buying more wings and more items from the "kale salad" lady on a regular basis. Both were great.

I can confirm that she was there and in her usual spot. What prepared food ban? Wings were being made, empanada's were being sold along with 3 food trucks.

The kale salads were there along with multiple food trucks and other prepared foods and a single farm stand.

Did anyone get to HP Farmer's Market? Curious if the lady who sells the kale salads/other healthy foods was impacted by this prepared food ban?
Robin - couldn't agree more about Knotweed. It is massively invasive and will take over a yard in no time...

What's with Groove on Grove today? No food trucks, but they were selling raw sausages.

for everyone that seeks food trucks and/or believe that food trucks should be parked in (hard earned) public plazas, here is a solution - go eat!
http://jerseycityeats.blogspot.com/20 ... -truck-saturdays.html?m=1 Food Truck Saturdays This Saturday, several of Jersey City's food trucks will gather together and park at the 318-328 Newark Avenue lot (between 4th and 5th Street) for the first time to officially launch the JC Food Truck Rally, anticipated to run every Saturday.

Why would anyone pay for knotweed? It's growing everywhere!
Come and pull it out of my garden and I'll pay you to take it away. Robin.

I don't think that I have ever seen them at the hamilton park market.... they definitely do monday at grove st, not sure about thursday. They started coming around the fall last yr (which I think might be mushroom season in this area?) so it was great to see them first thing this yr. I believe the name is Dining Wild (or Wild Dining?) I know that Hamilton park used to have that smaller greens and flower farm that use to set up around the 12 oclock position (if you are standing on the steps of the gazebo) - they sometimes had some mushrooms and more "wild" greens
I tried the japanese knotweed (I think they said the little guys are almost done and now its on to the big ones that you use to make jam), ramps and mustard garlic (they told me I could make a horseradish type product from the root too but it got accidentally tossed during the post-dinner clean up...which just gives me an excuse to buy more!) the guys are pretty awesome and gave me a few ideas (like the horseradish thing) on how to cook everything and I know that I got some amazing hen of the woods (maitake) mushrooms from them last yr too. it also seemed like the last farmer (near the pickle booth) had more meat with them than before..... I was out in Cincinnati a few days ago and couldn't stop thinking about how amazing it would be if the powerhouse turned into something like findlay market (http://www.findlaymarket.org/) ... but that is another thread all together! haha

I'm eating two boots twice as often because of all the whiners on here. It's also the best pizza by the slice in downtown. Sick burn. Abrasive cornmeal crust to the dome. Viva empenadas.

Any more details about the foraging booth? Do you know the name? I hope they are at Hamilton Park tonight with some goodies!

I thought the vendors so far looked pretty good!
I am excited for this wild foraging booth - some interesting stuff that I definitely wouldn't have tried otherwise (japanese knotweed - sort of like a lemony asparagus taste) I like how the farmers seemed to have a little more space (though still light on actual veggies given the time of year - I am sure it will fill out come mid/ late june) and we still had a good selection of the semi-homemade type stuff (breads/mozz/sauce etc that you can basically put together to make a great dinner) I still think that we should have a day for the food trucks to visit but I like the farmers market being actual farm (and "homemade") type stuff

Maybe these restaurants would do well if they actually understood the concept of turnover. Well except Two Boots, its a pizzeria...

Any reason why the empanada lady was allowed to stay? Without the lure of pork on a stick, I'm less likely to go to the market for carrots.

After stopping by the farmers market I'd like to offer a big eff you to Two Boots and the other businesses that have fought to limit the selection of quick easy meals that all of us who work all day used to be able to grab. Way to look out for your community.
