Re: Jersey City Mayor Seeks to Limit Chain Stores Downtown

Aaron, I don't know what's so hard to understand
1) The farmers market in its previous form was in place before you and many of your cronies took occupancy in Jersey City. Its not like this is new. You came in and are trying to change the competitive landscape AFTER the fact.
2) The government subsidy is for the BENEFIT OF THE COMMUNITY. The community wants more options, you are denying this. Do you know what was so great about the farmers market? If I got home at a decent time, I could hit the farm stands and grab items to cook at home. If I got home late and was too tired to cook, there were MANY options where I could grab a quick meal to bring home that wasn't pizza.
3) You have the choice to compete. In this discussion, both Taqueria and Madame Claude's have offered and encouraged Food Trucks to set up right across the street from them. Mi Casa got their own food truck. Legal Beans used to set up at the market. You and your cronies went crying to the government.

If you could please post the most recent list of the businesses whose greed is fighting to limit the community's choices and options, it would be most appreciated so I and the others who feel strongly about this, can continue to ensure that our money does not go to any of you. Thanks.

After stopping by the farmers market I'd like to offer a big eff you to Two Boots and the other businesses that have fought to limit the selection of quick easy meals that all of us who work all day used to be able to grab. Way to look out for your community.

I'm curious... what would be considered a "reasonable" walk from parking? Is a 10 minute walk too much? Pretty much all of DTJC is within a 10 minute walk of paid parking (I can't comment on the other parts of JC), so I don't see the issue downtown. Now if you're looking for parking on every single block, or without any cost, I don't know what to tell you - move to the suburbs, that's not what happens in a city, a growing one at that.

As well, lets not forget that the well liked restaurants in Jersey City - Taqueria and Kraverie for example, that started from food trucks. The Taqueria owner earlier in this thread has even welcomed food trucks to set up across the street from his business. To say that the current set up is preventing restaurants from opening is complete and total folly. This is a group of businesses, most of whom opened in Jersey City as the Market/Farmers Market/Food Truck scene already existed in its current form, who are trying to change the rules of the area that they decided to enter into.

Isn't there a big parking deck at the end of Newark Ave already at Grove Point or am I missing something?

As I understand it, October 1, we're facing another $0.25 increase to $2.75

The director also mentioned that they are continuing the 'around the world' service because people want to go to Hoboken... when it was suggested that they take the light rail, it was quickly rebuffed. ironic.
