Worth noting that NYC ended up being #67. If NYC isn't a great place for a staycation, I have no idea what is. And the notion that Cincinnati, Ohio is better is laughable.

I disagree, my neighborhood was not on the map at all about 5 years ago. All the housing around the lightrail in the last two years sits on the market for 2 weeks tops before being purchased then gutted. More and more renters are being pushed away from Garfield Ave and moved towards the center of the city where there is no reliable transportation (Buses).

I don't disagree but that I would bet money that has ZERO to do with this stupid campaign. Of course other neighborhoods are going to see an influx when downtown JC/Brooklyn started pricing people out (which was happening before this campaign). Where else are they going to go?? This campaign started what- less than a year ago? No one deserve credit for this- it's a natural progression that would have happened with or without corny advertisements by JC's resident famewhores.

I think all of JC is seeing this occur, but do you really think this has to do with the "Make It Yours" campaign? I'm not entirely convinced though I do like the campaign...

Make It Yours' branding is having an impact on the city

Earl Morgan | For The Jersey Journal

There's this scene in one of Marvel's Avengers movie when one character asks Captain American where he lives. "Well I'm from Brooklyn," Cap responds." So you live in Brooklyn? To which the Red, White and Blue garbed hero responds, "Are you kidding? I can't afford Brooklyn."

Yes, it's only a movie but the line is apropos considering what's happening in New York City's Kings County where real estate prices and rents are skyrocketing in the borough.

The same thing is happening on this side of the Hudson, in Hoboken and Jersey City, where pricey high rises are being built or under construction in heretofore working class neighborhoods. It's all a part of that phenomenon known as "gentrification," a term I don't much care. It infers a so-called gentry, a sort of superior, upper class, Downton Abbey cachet that's neither correct or fair to them.

The scuffed soles are distracting anyone with basic Photoshop experience could have cleaned up the shoes.

Anyone notice the ad that features a mother and child in a big round chair? Showing soles and very Christian iconography, right down to the halo.

If they wanted to keep it JC real, they should smeared some dog shit on those soles.

Anti-Arab propaganda? Pleeease. Have you seen these ads? The designers are NOT that creative.

"Jersey City doesn't have much to offer its residents this summer."

Hard to argue with that.

Not for nothing, but any and every "vacation" is what you make of it. Sure, some of it has to do with the area, but very little truly does. It has more to do with who you are with when doing it.

Personally, I think our city has plenty to offer its residents...

I'm a little more concerned with Muslims beheading Christians or burning them alive than a hipster coffee joint picture showing the bottom of a shoe. That may just be me, though.

Not at all. I'm suggesting that some people might not feel that it is "theirs" based on what they see in that photo.

What's sort of ridiculous about this article is that it implies that a staycation in Jersey City is terrible becuase it (bizarrely) counts on the fact that you somehow will decide to not actually leave the boundaries of Jersey City. But that's silly. I LOVE staycations here. In addition to all the cool JC things you can do, you can spend every day trekking across the river to NYC or driving out to great hiking areas. The idea that you can't leave your city's borders on a staycation is just emblematic of the stupid criteria that these polls have to enact. I think (and I think that at least some others would agree) that we live in one of the best staycation cities anywhere!

That isn't an article. It is a paid advertisement by Wallet Hub. People gloss right over advertisements that disclose this fact up front, so this is the 21st century's version. Notice how many times their name appears in the ad.

I saw the same "Make it Yours" phrase on banner on a street light pole in Long Island City last week. The banner said "Make it Here" then "Long Island City" then "Make it Yours"

The fact that the 'Make It Yours' campaign has garnered any sort of award leaves me absolutely dumbfounded. I can't think of a way the city could have possibly been any less imaginative in their use of $1.2MM for marketing JC.

Is there an equivalent of a stock photo database but for marketing catch phrases? Because 'Make It Yours' seems like it could have just been repurposed it from a failed mayonnaise campaign.

Jersey City's 'Make It Yours' branding campaign wins 8 awards

By Erika Solorzano | The Jersey Journal The Jersey Journal

Hudson County advertising agency HarrisonRand Agency has captured seven Hermes Creative awards for its work on the Jersey City "Make It Yours" branding campaign.

HarrisonRand, based in Guttenberg, won two Platinum awards for producing video content on behalf of the Jersey City Economic Development Corp. as part of the Jersey City branding campaign that was launched in October 2014.
