Been getting my haircut every 2 weeks by the manager of Street Fame for almost 10 years, him and his crew are awesome. They are great for caesars, fades, brooks, and shape-ups (from my experience), but I'm sure they do more than that. Ask for Kenny if you go, great guy. Very clean shop and I rarely wait when I have an appointment. Located right across from the Philippine Bread House in the JSQ area.

I was having trouble finding a good place after I moved to JC three years ago. I finally settled on V's in Hoboken and I have to say that it is a fantastic barbershop. I've been three times so far and though I had different barbers each time it was clear they were taking their time to make sure my hair would look it's best. When the cut was done they used a straight razor to clean up the edges. Then I got a minute long shoulder massage while a hot towel was placed on my face. A great experience all around, and at only $25 for a cut, well worth it.

I go to hoboken hair on 14th and Washington. Regular cut is 19 and the staff are great and very helpful on giving advice on what to do for certain hairstyles (most places never have me any info). Its not in jc,I know but I haven't found any good places that are worth the price.

I used to go to Cintron now go to leda (Russian) two doors down from Cintron on Barrow tween Newark Ave and Columbus. Barrow is also named "Cintron for that block.
I pay $12 she might charge you more. She does a good job and will even come to you to cut hair as she did when I was in Hamilton Park Rehab.

Anything downtown in the $12-14 range? I went to the Dominican guys on Barrow Street once (Cintron?) and they did a decent job, I think it was about $15.

I just got back from McGinley Square Hair Styling a/k/a Frank and Patsy's and and pretty happy with the cut. It's a Unisex Salon. I used Patsy but lots of men like the job Ruth does as well.
$12.00 for a men's cut, $15.00 with wash. I also got a straight razor shave for $12.00. Pretty good deal. I sometimes go to the Hoboken Man. They do a good job but it is very expensive.

What are you guys paying for a men's haircut nowadays?
I ask because Xpress Cuts on Grove Street, which is where I've been going for 7 years, just raised their price for a men's haircut to $20. They are very nice there, and do a nice job, but $20 is crazy considering most barber shops in Manhattan charge $14, and pay 2-3x the rent that XPress Cuts does on Grove Street. It's more of a principle thing ... if I can get the same result ( I have a simple haircut) for X number of dollars, why pay 50% more?

Astro is A NYC legend.
Prices were $40 ....But you said you wanted a good haircut so it shouldnt matter too much. If anything pay it the one time to see if you like. you will at least get the hair shaped properly for the next person to follow.

Astro is both awesomely interesting and very good at cutting men's hair.
Cha Cha is also pretty good. She seems to move places a lot though... she's been at Balance, another place on Grove that closed, Studio 17, and now Salon X.
