NJ has the third strictest gun laws in the country. Illegal gun owners should get mandatory prison sentences.

I joined the fight against people farting in public, but if I don't actively participate, voice a concern and most importantly legislate change - nothing happens!

Jersey City mayor to speak at pro-gun control event commemorating Newtown massacre

By Terrence T. McDonald/The Jersey Journal

Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop is scheduled speak Saturday at a Montclair memorial to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the Newtown, Conn. school shootings.

The event, called "No More Silence," will be co-sponsored by Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, which formed the day after the Dec. 14, 2012 massacre, which left 20 schoolchildren and six staff members of Sandy Hook Elementary School dead.

That's correct. Just like there are no "Illegal Immigrants" but there are "Undocumented Aliens", let's call them "Undocumented Firearms"

Okay?

So I'm guessing someone who stole a gun from someone who failed to report it is just exercising his 2nd amendment rights. After all, there is no such thing as an 'illegal gun.'

Entire law courses are taught around limitations on the Bill of Rights. This isn't new doctrine.

Why would anyone join the organization with this track record?

Funny thing is that this Mayor's Group has a List of People who died from Gun Violence that includes terrorists (Boston Marathon Bomber) and cold blooded murders killed by police... apparently it was being read in NH last week in some sort of honor the dead ceremony when the Boston Bombers name was read aloud :) Makes you wonder

Curious what you mean by none of the Bill of Rights is absolute??? They are in place to protect the citizens from government tyranny and the Supreme Court uses them to prevent abusive, arbitrary or selective law enforcement. They have served this country well despite what some of the people in the media and current administration think.

Our 2nd Amendment has nothing to do with the NRA

It has to do with your right to defend your property and your obligation to resist a tyranical gooberment. Everything else is just one form or another of someone's agenda.

There are reasonable limitations on all the amendments but the second amendment has big NRA money behind it.

Freedom is never absolute because there will always be people trying to overpower you. Also, it doesn't matter if the document is absolute or not since it is not the source of our rights. Our rights are innate which means they are not granted. What you're talking about is... a privilege; not a right. A privilege is something like a driver's license. A person's right to defend their property is not something that can be granted or taken away.

As for your use of the word "paranoid", I'm going to asume you don't know about the purchases made by DHS. I'd provide links but I'm sure you can find the info if you really want to

The term "legal gun" is nothing but an oxymoron when you understand our innate right to keep and bear arms.

Your gooberment is trying disarm you while they stockpile billions of hollow point rounds

Where have we seen this before in History? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

It really is sickening to see a public official show such ignorance when it comes to our 2nd Amendment

I wonder what these gun-grabbers would tell this store owner?

It's a good thing we have the group Mayors Against Illegal Guns or else the group Mayors For Illegal Guns would be running around unfettered.

we in NJ already have some of the toughest gun laws in the nation. although i'm a supporter and voted for him - this is just pandering to those anti-gun people.

how about actually enforcing existing laws and prosecuting illegal gun owners and the criminals who use them to the full extent of the law?

Jersey City mayor-elect joins Mayors Against Illegal Guns

By Terrence T. McDonald/The Jersey Journal
June 17, 2013 at 3:08 PM

Jersey City Mayor-elect Steve Fulop is following in his predecessor?s footsteps by joining Mayors Against Illegal Guns, a national pro-gun control group financed by New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg.

Fulop, who told The Jersey Journal after his victory in the May 14 mayoral race that he is an advocate for stricter gun-control measures, announced today through his office that he has joined the group, founded in 2006 by Bloomberg and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino.

?I am proud to stand with the mayors of 950 other communities in the United States in support of the coalition?s efforts to remove illegal guns from our streets,? Fulop said. ?My priority as mayor is to make every neighborhood in Jersey City safe and it begins with curbing gun violence.?

Fulop joins more than 100 other New Jersey members of the coalition. Outgoing Mayor Jerramiah Healy was a founding member of the group.

The New Jersey chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, a group that formed after the Dec. 14, 2012 school massacre in Newtown, Conn., said it is "thrilled" that Fulop has joined Mayors Against Illegal Guns even before his term begins.

"Mayor Healy has been a strong and consistent voice for gun violence prevention, and we look forward to working with Mayor Fulop to help raise awareness for gun violence prevention efforts in Jersey City," said Kristin Wald, the New Jersey chapter's co-leader.

Bloomberg, who endorsed Healy over Fulop in the May 14 race, said today in the statement from Fulop?s office that he?s excited to welcome the coalition?s newest member.

?We look forward to working with him in the coming months as we continue to lead the fight for common-sense gun legislation that will help save lives and keep our communities safe,? he said.

The group says more than 250 new mayors have joined since the Newtown shootings.
