I went to Orale last week and it was on par with Taqueria. Pricier but better service/ambience/drinks etc. Simililar to Taqueria with all small plates but again, more upscale and trendy. I loved Taqueria but it's a night and day experience in regards to service and ambience. I personally thought the food was better at Orale and they are a lot more customer-friendly. Just my two cents! I definitely plan on visiting Taqueria once the reopening crowd dies down but I definitely see myself chosing Orale over them in the future. The entire time we were eating there we kept saying how this was EXACTLY the kind of Mexican place Jersey City has needed.

Bounty - Have to disagree with you. My wife and I would honestly say the tacos there are on the top 3 list of the best things we've ever eaten.

If you think there are better mexican options in the area (or even NYC), please let me know, I'd love to try them!

The wait was long today, and the kitchen was very slow to the point our tacos were cold when they finally arrived, but I'll give them the benefit of a doubt, considering they've been closed a while, were swamped, and have a new system going.

Still, apart from all the waiting, the new suadero (flank) taco and the buche (tripe) were pretty awesome, and the others were just as good as I remember.

I visited Taqueria a couple of times because they say if the first time a restaurant is bad, maybe they're having a bad day. Well, the second time was as bad as the first. I really wanted to like it but their crappy cactus tacos can't make up for slow service and a so-so atmosphere. Los Tres Cholitos on Restaurant Row in the Heights has the most amazing pumpkin flower tacos. I would go there over Taqueria any day.

Apologies in advance for resembling a 'troll' (just read about the definition of this term in a recent New York Mag article.. intriguing..) but this is my honest opinion.

I noticed a crowd of people outside this place and couldn't help but wonder why people continue to go here. The food is mediocre. Perhaps 7 years ago when there were no other Mexican Joints downtown, I guess it was okay, but there are a handful of better options these days. The only reason people think the food tastes good is because they literally cook everything in a tub of lard.

Talk about a train wreck of a re-opening. I think they decided to do new employee training tonight!

Also amazing the pent up demand for tacos. Obviously there is a strong market for this stuff.

Let me just confirm for everyone that Taqueria is in fact OPEN. Walked by it on the way home from work and was going to stop in, but noticed that there was such a line that a dude was standing in the front door way. People must be souped. I've never eaten there. I'll wait for downtime.

Went to the LES location on Saturday night and it was jammed packed. Over 30 minute wait and the place was buzzing. Decided to get take out and was speaking to the manager and he indicated that the JC location was going to open this week. Took longer because they apparently completely renovated the place to mirror that of LES location. Definitely looking forward to it because the pork tacos (with extra hot sauce) was good as ever.

I have been to every Mexican truck, store, and restaurant.
Taqueria is worth waiting for. I bet the place will jumping when they open. I am getting a bit tired of going to NY, at least until I get there.

Just called. They have a new message with today's date saying renovations are almost finished and they should reopen within a week or so.

I have no idea what the actual hold-up is but considering construction and a liquor license it's not surprising if past history in Jersey City is any indication, and may not be entirely (or even at all) in their control.

I also wouldn't take some (perhaps ill-advised) message board quotes as a substitute for a business plan. The JC location did good business, enough so where the owners could be relatively hands-off in order to open a second location. Most reasonable people wouldn't walk away from that because of a JC List confrontation. A more logical reason to shut down the location is being weary of the constant flooding in that part of town, but again it sounds like that's not their plan solely based on what they're posting.

Didn't you see the owner's quotes about JC? He said that the clientele in JC was very low class compared to the LES location and the JC place would be closing for good soon.

While some of the owner's friends have rushed to his defense on this board, I think the extreme length of closing combined with zero communication to the public means it's safe to say the owner really doesn't care about the JC location.

I don't care either way, and liked the tacos there. I'll go back if it ever opens. But at the same time, I realize that the owner hates JC.

Perhaps the itch created by Taqueria being closed will be scratched by this new place.

Don't get your hopes up... If prior history is ANY guide, we know it will NOT open by late March, as they indicate. Unfortunately (and, sadly) restaurant openings around JC tend to get delayed by months and/or years.

I am not a Taqueria hater in the least. I have never been a demanding customer....if anything...i give places the benefit of the doubt. My one fault is that sometimes, i have a hard time picking stuff...but i always let the server/person know if i need a bit more time.

The one time i went to Taqueria.....i got lots of attitude......and even after i left......i kept thinking did i do something wrong....or is it just in my head.

The time i went it was a woman, relatively young who took my order.

One of these days I will go back.....I just have not had time. But I do believe that many people have had issues with the place.

From what I gather the owner is a a bit of jerk.....and in some cosmic way some of his clientele... are also jerks....so at least the universe is in balance.

Wow, the more I read this thread, the more I like this place, and the more I want to stay and get to know my neighbors.

I guess this is one of the reasons why JC will be JC.

Sad... And people complain about the attitude from Taqueira. personally, I think some of the stuff written here is above and beyond what Taqueira dishes out (and I don't mean their tacos).

Red Hook is probably the worst possible reference point for the close/convenient argument.

Does everyone here know user1111 is from Greenville? Wasn't sure if that was clear or not.

Maybe if you just cry about User111's comments going up on every thread, the trees will stop blocking your view of the NYC skyline.

according to who? you? 11 min to Exchange Place, 7 min to WTC and 5 min to Grand street NYC. If you have trouble with math that's 21 min, but if I walk from WTC like I usually do its 33-40 min. Greenville is just across from Red Hook BK why would it take 3 days?

No that's 23 minutes. And in the other thread you said 33minutes. "...and my commute is now 33 min door to door to my work..."

Try rereading what I said, then try again. Wow the ignorance here is thick and alive.

Oh snap! You got me. Sorry to call you on your math I'm sure it's taking away from your time commenting on every other thread on JClist. You know what they say though.

Five minutes from the time the PATH pulls into WTC to your arrival on Grand in the LES? Impressive, Usain.

Sorry, User 111,
That's bull . I go there all the time, and the conversation with Che Che and the owners is they are anxious to get going in JC. Why would they say something like that ? Especially when so many people go to the LES from JC to eat. Wouldn't that be an afront to them ?
