Internet only.

Fios TV/Phone/Internet is 99 plus taxes and fees such as 5.99 for a HD tv box, that said if you have just one tv, they are giving you a free DVR

Don't know much about comcast tv since they don't have the channels I want.

Its for new customers. Comcast claims speeds up to 20 mbps with Powerboost, upload being 5mbps.

Fios plans is 15/5 but most people can get 20/5 .

I guess we all have different experiences, but I have never had a problem with Direct TV. It worked during Irene. The screen get weird for 5 seconds then the picture came back on.

I have FIOS and pay $130 a month for the bundled phone, internet and cable package. I have 3 boxes, DVR and HBO. I think I have a $10 discount because of work but other then that it is not a promotional rate.

I will admit Comcast was better overall but for $100 less a month I won't complain.

I just left Direct to return to Comcast. Both have VERY similar prices. DTV recently teamed up with Fios' internet so you can get a bundle for net and TV, but if you want all channels and a decent internet speed you're paying pretty much the same price - only difference, with DTV you wont be able to watch anything in the rain, snow, and on most cloudy days.

For the bundle question, everything seemed to be much more expensive without the bundle. I even got a land line from comcast because it was actually cheaper to be in the "triple play" than to just have TV and internet.

I've been cutting the cord on a few things. I pay for basic digital cable through Comcast, along with their high-speed internet service and a DVR for $16/month that I'd like to keep. The Comcast bill works out at under $100/month. Given the services want, it's going to be hard to lower that bill - and I dont think alternatives would help.

The cheapest VoIP service seems to be Obitalk with Google talk. The $50 one-time cost gets you a basic free phone service comparable to Vonage/Skype. http://obihai.com/

whiteboy19, what do you think of verizon DSL's speed? what's the quality of the streaming from netflix? i would gladly pay $31 for verizon DSL instead of almost $70 for cable internet from comcast if they're comparable.

As a reminder, one can get triple play in some ol' europe countries for 30 euros... I just have comcast for internet + roku netflix, I use google voice to call there on my cell, and sometime the viber app for free text/voice between wherever on the world. If Comcast DARE to increase my rate which is currently at $60, ciao Comcast. Most of the popular tv shows ends up on either hulu or the original tv channel websites nowdays (see abc app on the ipdad) and are filled with adds. No need to double pay folks.

I have verizon D.S.L. .there are 2 speeds .I have the fast one .its 31 dollars a month . also I have no cable .People have been brainwashed into paying a lot for cable .you dont need it.Instead i have netflix ''streaming only''another 8 bucks a month. I realize all the movies are not the new ones but there are thouisands of movies you can watch, you would not believe the variety.I connect my laptop to my flat screen and Im good . if you have so much time on your hands that you need cable you are not living properly. and there is not really a lot on cable anyway unless you pay more a.k.a. pay per view.total less than 40 a month . another ripoff is the bundled ''triple play'' in which you have to pay for a house phone. Who has or needs a housephone? if you make long distance calls get skype its very economical and you only pay for what you use. verizon DSL,netflix streaming, and skype is the ticket believe me im real cheap

$67 ouch ! Is Comcast trying to commit business suicide ? FIOS is only around $30 a month. I guess living in a digital world cost money... lots of it. We all tasted then drank the koolaid.

Anybody have a Roku box?

Is this a good way to maybe just get basic cable and then use this?

Of course you don't get HBO, Showtime etc.

Any thoughts?

I pay about $125 a month for FIOS triple play like bundle locked into a 2 yr contract. I would like to reduce this by removing cable TV eventually but I wonder where I can get the local sports channels like ESPN, YES, etc.

Over $50 a month just for net service ouch ! You surely have to pay the price for luxury these days. What happened to the $10 monthly ISP fee ?

Yes, I believe it's their lowest bandwith plan. All I know is that streaming Netflix video works fine with this plan. I'm not sure what I would do with the higher bandwith plans.

I am looking to do the same. Only internet. I have used Comcast and their promotions for quite a while, just because it has been a good enough price. Now they do not run promotions, or at least it is not very attractive anymore, and internet only goes to $60 in March 2012. I think I am starting to be ready to ditch Comcast for FiOS or something else. Has anyone found a good INTERNET only plan? Or any good FiOS deals going around, even triple play?

Comcast Broadband=$59.95
basic cable=$16
Broadband + basic cable=$61.95

I'm thinking this bundling crap is anti competitive and should be illegal. If the additional consumer cost of getting TV in addition to broadband is practically nothing compared to getting broadband alone, then they're dumping the services on the market below cost in order to kneecap any competitor looking to offer just broadband, right? And anything they charge for phone is gravy since we know the cost of providing VOIP is practically zero.

I dropped Comcast yesterday and FIOS is coming Wednesday. I couldn't be happier!

When I signed up for Comcast they couldn't set up an install for 2 whole weeks. My box never worked properly and they insisted on selling me internet and phone which I already have so I kept declining. The tech was rude, my box had trouble initializing from day 1 and I could not get On Demand or my channel listing to show after the 4th month. Since April my TV has been a guessing game while flipping because I can't memorize hundreds of channels and it's a pain to look them up on the internet because the techs never showed up to replace the box after many missed appointments.

They also wanted me to add a full package for 24.99 to be able to get the Travel channel. No Thanks.

Comcast's customer service sucks. They have no problem calling me to harass me over the last two months bills I have refused to pay since my box blew during a lightening storm and they would not replace it.

Good riddance Comcast! I took FIOS up on the TV/Internet bundle because it was the same price minus the internet.

I think over in the hate Comcast thread, there's is a discussion on there about OTA Antennas.

Also Why pay for TiVo for OTA channels? All except for CBS (only certain shows) tends to stream their stuff online.

What about a $20/month charge for Tivo is reasonable? For the same $99 + 13 months of charges you can buy a PC with HDMI out, a USB TV tuner dongle and the Windows Media Center with zero monthly charges. That PC will also stream Netflix, Youtube & Hulu for you, and play any other media you might "acquire". It'll surf the web too.
