Does anyone know where I might be able to find a loaf of brioche for French toast in Jersey City?
If you have a suggestion of other type of bread to use for good French toast, feel free to suggest!

I would recommend staying away from IPG Counseling. I have had a bad experience there, and I have heard similar comments from multiple others.
As for a suggestion; it really is a hit or miss. It has to do with how well you hit if off with the therapist. One would hope that the therapist is experienced, which was not our case at IPG (among other people's experiences with similar issues with different IPG therapists). There are a lot of not so good ones out there.

Re: options for TV for a non- tech savvy person

Just can't stay away

Please help out another neophyte. I do not watch TV, just Netflix. Eons ago, my wireless router was close to my DVD player, and I was able to access Netflix (and some other things) through that. Well, when I got FIOS some years ago, the router changed location, and since then, I have not been able to connect the DVD player (which has the Netflix and other apps in it, about 9 years old) to the router. To my surprise, I found a HDMI port on my TV (which is also close to 9 years old). Now, being a neophyte, I wonder what is the best way to get the wireless connection to my TV, and be able to watch Netflix via TV (maybe by using the DVD player I have) versus my laptop screen. Should I buy a Roku stick? Or a Chromecast stick? Something else?
I am looking to spend hardly any money on this, otherwise, I can just keep watching Netflix on my laptop.

Shoprite parking lot

How vigilantly do they still monitor the Shoprite/BJs parking lot? I need to go shopping both at the supermarkets and the mall, and I wonder if it is somewhat ok for me to leave my car in the lot while going to the mall? I would hate to do two separate trips there.

I have had my car towed once from that lot many years ago, and it has left a huge scar that I never want it to happen again.

This is an update!
Today, I had my court date. I had to ask for a different court date for a good reason, which was granted. I biked to the court house, I didn't want to risk getting a second ticket. There were ton of people for traffic or parking violations in the court room today. I was prepared by printing out many photos from that block and my car with the ticket on it. When my name was called, the judge said that the ticket didn't specify which side of the street I had parked, thus there was no way of determining if the ticket was correctly written, and case was dismissed. That was it ? I never showed any of my photos, just said thank you and left. Saved $50 by going to court. It was worth the few phone calls I made and the hour I spent in the court house.

The Johnston Avenue pool is open for the season. Until school gets out, there is an adult lap swim from 7 am till 10 am Monday-Friday. And then it opens for everyone in the afternoon again; I don't remember those times. The pool is also open on Saturdays and Sundays for everyone, but I cannot remember the hours, it might have been something like 12 noon till 6 pm.
I assume the hours change once the public schools are out for summer.

jerseymom, thanks for being so helpful! And I appreciate all the responses to this thread. I will be posting an update after my court date in late June, or July.

I did google earth on that block and I see no signs there, just like I didn't see any when I parked the car. I will visit the area again this week and take more photos.

I am appreciative of everyone's comments! Thank you!

Jerseymom, thanks for your great and helpful post. I managed to reach the Municipal Court in the morning time by phone. They actually picked up the phone! I was asked if I want to go to court, to which I replied that I do. She forwarded my paperwork (asked me ticket info) towards that. She told me that I will be mailed a court date in three to four weeks. The date on my ticket is not an actual date for court, it is just the pay by date. While I wait for the court date, it is possible that I receive a late fee. She told me to bring it to court, and the late fee will be forgiven as long as I show up to court. Now, I am just waiting to see what my court date will be.
Thanks again!!

Ticket for street cleaning, but NO signs on the block (Duncan Avenue)

Looking for some smart ideas on how to approach this.
I got a ticket for street cleaning ($50) today on Duncan Avenue, on the block between Mallory and Plainfield Avenues. That block, or a few blocks before it or after, have ZERO signs relating to parking. When I left my car, I was not the only car on that block either.
What is my best approach? Just suck it up and pay? Or show up to court, and show photos that I took of the block?

Additionally, do you have any advice on my court date? The ticket says, "Pay by Date" 06/04/2015, and "Court Time" 1:00 pm. Does this mean that my court date is the pay by date at 1 pm?
I have been on hold for close to two hours with the JC Municipal Court. I have a suspicion that I might get advice from here sooner than from there...

Do you have any recommendations on getting my a/c unit looked into? It was working fine, and now just stopped. Need it fixed. Some local outfit, that doesn't charge an arm and a leg, would be preferable.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

The dog is a a blonde Labrador mix, very sweet dog. The NJ.com article is very lacking of details of what actually happened. Police has decided to ignore it, said to the woman, that without any name of the assailant, they are doing nothing. It is up to us to find this guy before he hurts someone else, or his wife turns up as mulch. Sounds like a time bomb ticking in Paulus Hook, Jersey City.

Assault in broad daylight in Paulus Hook, looking for the hoodlum

Just can't stay away
Just can't stay away

On Monday 10/8 at 12:45 pm woman walking her dog (lives in JC) got assaulted at the Paulus Hook park, near the bend by the Colgate clock by a man, which she describes as Russian or Polish, tall, white and was wearing a white jacket and a ski cap. Also, he was with his wife, a tall blond woman, wearing a green parka and a small 1 or 2 year old son. He was screaming and fighting with his wife, before he decided it was ok to beat above said woman into the ground and kick her several times in her chest and abdomen, leaving her badly bruised and hurt. Just because he thought she was not picking up after her Dog...!
People called the police and ambulance; the woman ran away with her child, doing nothing for the hurt one; and the guy ran away shortly after that, when he realized the police was coming. They, the man, the woman, and the child, live around the Light Horse Tavern area in Paulus Hook.
PLEASE, PLEASE, if you know anybody that matches this man and his family description; please think about it and let the police know; 'cause if he did this to a dog walking person; we can only imagine the "hell-hole" his wife lives in.

Jersey City is supposed to be a safe neighborhood for families and people alike... please help keep it that way! Please pass it on to your Jersey City friends and groups.

If you have any details please call JCPD (201-547-5477) and refer to file 24242-12.

"I know a lot of places will pick up furniture, but will anyone pick up the smaller stuff if there's enough of it?"

Can you please point me to a few? I have a piece of furniture that I would like to donate (and get the tax deduction). I had an agreement with Salvation Army to come and pick it up, and they called me after the agreed upon pick up time, that sorry, the truck was full, so they never came. I prefer to find someone else who would appreciate my as good as new couch.

Fraudulent charges on CC after EZ Towing
#18
Just can't stay away
Just can't stay away

Just a little alert: After I payed for towing my car with credit card at EZ Towing, I have nine fraudulent credit card charges, that started the next day after towing. Four of those are for Edible Arrangements in Hoboken. Makes me wonder if they serve as some kind of money laundering establishment? The other five charges are for Apple iTunes Store, latest one being 23 days after towing. Total fraudulent charges amount to about $500.

** The spotters are in a dilapidated Green van. **

I think I have seen spotters also in an older red Jeep.

Spotters are illegal. This is why Monica was busy explaining to me how there are no spotters, there are people cleaning the lot and while they do that, they pay attention to cars on the lot. It might be an interesting experiment to start photographing the spotters and see if they actually are cleaning while taking copious notes.

By the way, according to the "rules" they shouldn't tow anyone sooner than 30 minutes after being parked. This is why they write on the towing "receipt" the time of the call (c) and time of the tow (t).

It is illegal for a spotter to make the call for towing. The manager of the property needs to make the call. There are a lot of fishy things about this. Some class action lawsuit would be in order, this practice needs to stop. I am not sure who all get paid during this, for sure the spotters, the towing company, and who knows if the JC police or someone like that is also involved. Police at least turns a blind eye to the what goes on at Metro Plaza, and how people are taken advantage of. I guess it is a good business idea, but too shady for me to start practicing .

I got towed at the parking lot. I am trying to get hold of people to make this right, and as I have spoken with the towing company (E-Z Towing), the business on the lot, and the management company of the lot (G&S Investors), I am getting a full run around. The management company rep for the lot is Monica, at 212-286-3300, is very defensive and nasty - she seems to be defending something that they have trouble with. She claimed that G&S Investors do not hire spotters. They have people on the lot who clean, and pay attention to people who park. I have never seen anyone cleaning the lot, while they are
"spotting" people.

Dear JC List,
I do not drive much and I am so lost with the changes on 1&9 now. Hopefully you can help me the most efficient way of getting to 7 and then 280. I will be driving from downtown, getting on 1&9 on 14th Street. Or should I do something completely different? Google Maps is recommending me to do surface streets to Newark. Not my ideal.
Advice is highly appreciated!

Thanks jchile. Even with these instructions, I am not able to figure out how to do it. I got as far as as "Get Full Results", which I assume mean what you wrote to be "Full Report". From there, I can only fill in credit card info to sign up for the service. Thus, I am dumb founded where to proceed from there. I certainly want to remove my info, which extends so some old addresses in different states.

I am looking to do the same. Only internet. I have used Comcast and their promotions for quite a while, just because it has been a good enough price. Now they do not run promotions, or at least it is not very attractive anymore, and internet only goes to $60 in March 2012. I think I am starting to be ready to ditch Comcast for FiOS or something else. Has anyone found a good INTERNET only plan? Or any good FiOS deals going around, even triple play?

My child was on the bus all last school year, while attending PK3. Yes, at first I was wondering too how is it to have a bus full of three and four year olds. I did the practice bus run alone (if I remember correctly), and I went with my child the first day of school as well. They have two adults on the bus in addition to the driver. They check that the kids have their seat belts on, and also teach them to put the seat belts on themselves. It seems that the bus ride is great fun. In the morning, majority of the parents stay to wave to the kids and they really enjoy it. We will continue to send my child on the bus for PK4 as well.

Just got off the phone with the architect's office. Looks like the Johnston Ave. pool will open at the end of June, when schools get out (June 27th). There was a problem with the previous contractor, who has been booted, and they need to fix something, before it is safe for swimming. I think keeping the calls going, will keep them working on it. I certainly wouldn't want to see end of June pass, and no pool yet...
