If you and your kids happen to be into the outdoors read on, if not skip this post.

Buy a Gore-Tex hooded jacket, waterproof pants, and boots. Then go do whatever you and your kids want to do and don?t let the weather intimidate you. Sometimes the activity is actually more interesting, enjoyable, or adventurous because it is raining or snowing. If there is a place outdoors you like that is usually crowded, go when weather is "bad" and you will have the place to yourself and your kids. I have also noticed many indoor destinations are less busy because people don?t want to travel in adverse weather. If you are going somewhere in nature or even our local parks it?s an entirely new and different ambiance with precipitation falling. For some locations I actually prefer precipitation, sunny days are kind of easy and boring. If it is very cold don?t wear anything cotton?all wool or synthetic. I have been outdoors for extended periods of time in deluges, blizzards, desert heat and everything in between. If you dress correctly you can be quite comfortable in pretty much any weather, just watch your footing as things can be slippery. If you don?t dress correctly it can get quite miserable if the weather isnt ?good?. There are a lot of resources online about how to correctly dress for any weather.

Ice skating in Newport or Pershing Field could have been done. You could have taken them downtown to scoop up painting material if they like to draw. Simply have gone to a restaurant and eat and not have to cook. Or you could have simply taken them out to start shoveling for money. Some people still needed it.

It would be great if there was a large space with activities for kids to hang out and play ping pong, board games, arts and crafts etc.

ANYTHING besides the TV, computer, electronic games.

so far it seems the usual options are,

Liberty science center..... closed
bowling.......closed
movie at the mall.......bored with the mall
hanging at the house.......bored with the house

Any suggestions ?

How about buying a few snow showels and going door-to-door helping out your older neighbors with a bit of giving back? Sheesh!

Buy some buckets and stick 'SAVE THE CHILDREN' onto them - Just print them off your printer with a colorful font and don't forget to comb the kids hair when you send them out!

Seriously, why on earth is there no school today? A 2-hour delay would have sufficed. We got the school closure call at 5:20 a.m.

For stuff to do I'd recommend going bowling if you have a car or you can take the light rail

Myth: Pancakes are for breakfast.

Fact: There are no rules when it comes to pancakes.

1) Homework
2) Physical activity (the gym or something active to get their energy out)
3) Book reading
4) Have them make you lunch
5) Games like uno, monopoly, etc.
6) Video games as an absolute last resort

Go to the grocery store and get stuff to make cupcakes.

Or gather up everything that your child has outgrown (toys, clothes, etc) and see if he/she could sell it on ebay to make a little cash.

Or trek over to Hoboken to visit Carlo's and then grab lunch. I walked there yesterday along the waterfront and it was quite a challenge. Could take you all day to get there and back unless you have crampons.

My mom always turned those days into cleaning days - get rid of old clothes (donate to salvation army) and attack that space in your house that collects the crap...
