I was leaving Target last week to hear a woman say "Did you just ask me out?!"
I looked up to see a friend talking to one of the guys. Apparently, he asked if he could take her out sometime. Her responce (albeit kinda bitchy) was "Seriously? You are selling candy outside a Target and you want to take ME out?" At this point i swooped in and said "Baby, I'll take you out right now." and we walked away arm in arm. The reaction from his friend was priceless.

Seriously, the fact that this thread is called "Gangbangers & Reese's" is hilarious. Those kids aren't gangbangers, they are just pushy dudes trying to con you out of a few bucks. Just ignore them. I'm sure Target is aware of their presence. True gangbangers are selling drugs or have other people to sell drugs for them. Not a lot of money in the candy pushing business.

I have never ever had an experience like that and more often than not, I don't buy candy from them. A polite, "no thank you" and it ends there.

I've run into these clowns as well- Forget the "lying is wrong" argument for a second (it is). These guys are different from the usual candy slingers. Extremely obnoxious, will follow you towards your car. Obviously trying to be intimidating (or as intimidating as you can be with a box of candy under your arm running your mouth in a big-box retailer parking lot).
They should absolutely not be there. Candy slingers are all over downtown and I've seen dozens of them over the years...these guys are in their own league. Real jackasses.

It may not be "harmless" in the sense that no one's being forced to take out his wallet, but if I bring boxes of cookies to work and pass them off as my nonexistent daughter's girl scout cookies for a little extra pocket change, I'm still doing something wrong here, right?
I know this stuff is relatively minor in the big scheme of things, but we shouldn't forget to teach our kids that lying is still actually a bad thing.

You don't have to give them money if you don't want to, but there's no reason to go out of your way to prevent them from making a little bit of money in a perfectly harmless way.

Seriously what is so bad about them or anyone selling candy? Is saying "No thanks" really such a big inconvenients to any of you? I have not read one good reason on here why they shouldn't be able to continue selling candy.

Oh yeah, selling candy is just about the worst thing ever. Let's all complain so they can't do it anymore. Hopefully then they'll go back to Greenville where they belong.

I'd just email Target corporate directly and complain about the issue. If they won't allow the Salvation Army, they certainly shouldn't allow these "youths" to harass shoppers.

Yeah, we also met them at Target and they were way overly aggressive - and not in a salesman kind of way -- really for no reason -- oh well, they were honest that the money was for music studio time. I'm not sure why the manager at Target lets it go on.

How about the guys down the street from the NY-side 9th Street PATH station who quizzically sell gansta rap CDs? Who buys CDs anymore?

I usually say "Sorry, I don't have any cash", which is true for the most part. I dont' carry a lot of cash on me and when I do, I'm not going to spend it on candy.

I went to Target on Wednesday morning and afternoon - I saw them both times. They were telling people it was for their school's music program. I didn't buy it or the candy. They looked a little too old for school and wasn't school still in session Wednesday morning anyhow? I've also seen them at Shoprite and at the A&P.
Interestingly enough, didn't Target prohibit the Salvation Army from setting up their holiday collections in front of any stores a few years back. Gangbangers or not, for the most part they are harassing people for money and that is something I do not appreciate no matter how nicely they ask. Of all the days they spend trying to swindle money out of kind hearted people, maybe they can go put that energy to better use by finding a job or volunteering their time.
