I monthly park at the Newport Mall garage - I've been really happy keeping my car there.
Hamilton Park Residents pay $100 a month. (My understanding is that the mall/garage consumed a portion of HP when built and a stipulation of that consumption was reasonable parking for residents.) Everyone else pays $185 a month. You have to show the car is registered to the HP address... They have updated the management in the office - it is 100% better than it used to be. The guy who runs the office is solid and great to talk to if you have a problem.

To keep this thread updated:
Parking at the Newport Center Garage is now $185 for Newport residents. I don't know how long it's been at this current rate, but I went the other day to verify if the $85 rate was still valid and it wasn't. If you want to pay $185/mo., take a copy of your lease and a check to the Newport management office on the ground floor of the north end of the parking garage (behind the rental car office).

I rent in HP, but my car is registered in CT. Could I get a monthly parking pass there, or do you need the car to have NJ plates?

Thanks for all of the help...I'm only asking all of these paranoid questions because my boyfriend's car was hit by a drunk driver who also hit 5 other cars alone Coles Street back in December...and after several attempts by Ziggy's to fix the car, the insurance company deemed his 2002 Acura totalled (aka lots of damage/money). He just got a new car 2 weeks ago and is looking for street parking alternatives.

You can park anywhere in the entire garage. There are no assigned spots or designated areas to park in. I have been parking there for about 2 months and have not had any problems. I would consider it safer than parking on the street.

If you rent a parking space in the Newport Mall garage is it an assigned spot or first come first serve along the Marin gate? Has anyone ever had any bad experiences parking their cars there, i.e. key marks, more than the usual garage-parking door dings or break-ins?

They do indeed keep track of your card. It needs to be in sequence. IN-OUT-IN-OUT...
The example I used, with my friend visiting, was I put my car on the street. (I also have a street permit), so the in-out sequence was not broken. There was only one car in the garage.

They do keep track of when you swipe your card in and out. I was having a problem with my card and they looked on the computer and knew exactly when I last entered the garage. I'm surprised your card allowed another car in if your car was already in the garage. Good to know for when my girlfriend is in town I can let her park there.

I started parking in the mall garage in mid-January. It is indeed $85/month and you have to show a copy of your current lease and utility bill for proof of address. The only annoying thing is you have to go into the office at the beginning of each month to drop off your check. I don't think there is any way to mail a check nor can you use a credit card.

1) I have been parking at the Mall Garage (West) since Nov 2007. It has been $85 since then. I cannot comment prior to that. There is also a $10 one time payment for the card. They don't take Credit Card.
2) I have never had guest use the garage overnight, but I have used it to let a friend park, when I was haveing a party, but they did not stay overnight. I would imagine they have someway of tracking who doesn't belong, but I think it would be difficult to identify who was a paying person, and who was a monthly. 3) I in order to get the Hamilton Park rate, you have to live in the immediate blocks surrounding the mall, and provide documentation showing you and your vehicle live there. It is much cheaper than the $240, I used to pay in Hoboken...

If this is the case, I'm strongly in favor of this policy. My understanding is that the city usually forces developers to include parking in their larger projects, in order to keep cars off the street. But people don't like paying for parking, so they just get a permit, park on the street, and then the building's lot or garage is not being fully used because of it. Not allowing these residents to have permits solves that problem. I suspect I will get flamed for saying this, but I think we all need to get out of the mindset of free parking. The fact that I can drive into NYC, where space is at such a premium, and find free parking in many parts of the city is pretty ridiculous. I suspect this will change in the next 10 years.

Also, do you have to sign a lease for the parking spot or is it month to month?

The garage at the intersection of Erie & 9th is part of the Hamilton Square Project and will eventually be torn down when the developers get to that phase of the project. It will be replaced with condos and I believe some parking in the base of the building. This makes *perfect* sense for an area where parking is a commodity. Idiot developers. I heard rumors that people who live at Hamilton Square will not be issued residential parking permits since there will be parking available. Can someone substantiate?

What is the geographic area covered for getting the HP resident rate at the Newport garage?
Also, can anyone recommend reasonable parking (indoor or outdoor ok) around 2nd/Jersey Ave? Thanks!

I used to park at the mall when I worked at Newport Tower. if you weren't using your car, you had to register the other license plate with the office. Someone goes through there at night and writes down all the license plate numbers to check against their records. Not sure exactly how the system works or how they can monitor which car is paying daily and which is monthly.

Two questions: 1) Has the rate always been $85/month or do they raise it every year? 2) If you have visitors can you give them your parking card and let them park in the garage too?

I currently have a parking pass for the Newport mall West garage. For Hamilton Park residents it is $85 per month, cash or check. Plus $10 for the first month for the card. The office is located by the Dollar Car Rental office at the north end exit. The management company is Dennison Parking. This is only for the garage along Marin Blvd.

Parking at the NWP mall garage is between $185 and $200 a month for non HP residents.
Not cheap by any stretch of the imagination... Good Luck CK

My co-worker pays $85 a month there. That rate is for Hamilton Park residents. Thanks for all the info so far! Just wondering, if you already have one car with a parking permit for the area, will they give you a pass to park another car there?

That being said the current parking garage is NOT next to the mall. It is two blocks away on Erie.

As far as I know it's $55 a month, but it's only available to mall employees. That is unless they've changed things since last I checked.

Anyone know how much monthly parking is at Newport Mall? Are there any other weekday parking options in Hamilton Park?
Thanks!
