I don't support casinos anywhere. However, your claim is not correct.

There are lots of casino and gaming areas that don't attract crime. Crime rates did not go up after Dover Downs, Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun opened. These days, casinos are opening in affluent suburban neighborhoods, and don't hollow them out.

Atlantic City was already in the grips of crime and drugs when the casinos were first built. The casinos did not solve the problems, but it also didn't create most of them. Nor is it likely that a strip joint and heroin shooting alley will open at Port Liberty if a casino is built there.

Holy moly. Even by JCList standards, that's a stunningly blatant NIMBY attitude.

"Casinos make crime worse, so let's dump one in a community that already has problems."

Why not ship a bunch of toxic waste into East Orange while you're at it?

LOL.... it has the potential to compete with the Resorts Casino in Queens. Fired employee / Lover murders in parking lot, riots in the food court over crappy free frozen Mardis Gras drinks and customer suicides off balcony at main entry. Never mind the free giveaways (lettuce cleaner) for preferred customers that have people lined up for hours. It is also used to be a destination spot for the NYC homeless.

Curious how Liberty National feels about riff-raff coming into their zip code.

We can agree to disagree on whether a casino is going to make Jersey City a worse place to live. I don't oppose it.

I will never forget the time I told my husband we should try a new restaurant I read about in Atlantic City. We went there and prostitutes were hitting cars to attract customers. We decided to turn around, it wasn't worth it. That same mentality will come to JC. I remember Atlantic City before casino gambling, it was a place for families. The casinos changed the atmosphere.

A casino in Jersey City is a desperate move by greedy politicians who were bribed with campaign contributions to get revenue for a bankrupt New Jersey.

Politicians will hit the jackpot but casinos also bring crime, drugs, drunks, prostitution, traffic, poverty, and huge ugly buildings behind the statue; are we going to protest this or what?

Every casino I have ever visited is windowless by design except for the REVEL which is out of business. So why not put this in East Orange, Newark, Paterson instead of turning Jersey City into a ghetto?

I urge you to call Mayor Fulop and demand he change his position and be AGAINST a casino outside of Atlantic City.

To those of you who like to gamble, download an app and play online, its legal in NJ!

Fulop is simply currying favor with the millionaires who have an interest in developing that massive casino/apartment/one time racetrack.

Guess Sweeney's outmaneuvering him so far in the governor race and Fulop wants to ensure more $$$ support.

On principle, I agree. I don't see a reason why it is illegal. However, I certainly don't want a casino located in Jersey City.

Casino proposal will go to the legislature

Fulop said he intends to ask the state legislature to enable a statewide referendum for a possible casino complex at the southern portion of Jersey City near Liberty State Park. He said the proposed complex would offer a number of possible commercial elements and not depend exclusively on the gambling aspect.

?We don?t want something that just has a lot of slot machines,? he said.

The proposal faces possible opposition by Gov. Christopher Christie, but Fulop said approval by both houses of the state legislature would allow the public to decide. If the public affirms, allowing the casino would not require the governor?s approval.

Watch...Newark, JC and the Meadowlands will all build mega casinos. And they will all fail miserably when they open a casino at the Hudson Yards.

One by one, elected officials took to the podium at Newark City Hall Wednesday afternoon to state their case for a casino in the state's largest city.

The last of the parade of state, county and city officials was Mayor Ras Baraka, who took the lobbying one step further.

"I'm going to claim it. We're going to vote on this and we're going to get a casino right here in the city of Newark," he said.

The words met with a standing ovation from the 100 or so people gathered at the press conference, all brimming with hope that a gambling venue might bring added momentum to redevelopment efforts that are already underway in the city.

"We stand in agreement because being that Newark has a close proximity to an international airport, this is the perfect location, for not just a casino but for a convention center and for a hotel," said Essex County Freeholders President Britnee N. Timberlake.

"It's going to (stimulate) the local economy. It's going to put people to work."

This will not change anyone's lives here and not turn JC to AC. It will bring a crowd to Liberty State Park, make some cash for the state, and the owners.. and thats it. The ghetto you seem to think it'll attract won't be wandering your neighborhoods.

Again, this is not AC or some place in the middle of nowhere. I think Yonkers and Queens have survived their casinos just fine.

But I guess we need to complain about something.

Last week, Mukherji estimated between 20,000 and 30,000 new jobs being created as a result of the north Jersey casinos. But Fletcher Gensamer, a Downtown Jersey City resident, said those numbers are inflated, pointing to the 2011 construction of Revel Casino in Atlantic City, which he said only created 2,100 construction jobs and about 3,000 jobs in the casino.

"The numbers don't add up," said Gensamer, 44.

With the recent crime in Jersey City some residents are concerned building a casino would shift city officials' attention away from existing issues in the community.

Gensamer, who is mulling a run for city council in 2017, said building a casino in Greenville would inflate existing problems in that section of the city.

Rule #1 to any discussion about bringing a casino/ resort to Anywhere, USA: You're not allowed to use the words "Las" or "Vegas."

No casino in the U.S. is like Las Vegas (sorry, broke my rule) and no casino in the U.S. ever will be. Putting aside the fact that that particular city has a whole host of economic and environmental sustainability issues which will likely limit its own shelf-life, the city and its culture are utterly unique. They have never been replicated anywhere else.

If a casino developer proposing a casino in the northeast compares the project to the casinos of that southwest city, you know he's a snake-oil salesman.

Want to see what a casino in Jersey City will look like? Take a look at the Parx in Philadelphia or some Harrah's out in western PA. There will be no jet-setting NYC tourists trying to recreate their summers on the French Riviera. There will be 300 lb. old ladies on Little Rascals with oxygen tubes in their nostrils double-fisting Winstons.

Exactly this. It's hilarious when people write things like "targeted demographics" and "developers are promising". Oh it all looks so good on paper.

You do have to admit that this developer stuck to his chosen demographics when he developed Liberty National. Which tells me that his casino will likewise be targeted to the well-to-do. The high rollers will get golf privileges, I am sure. This will not be targeted to the riff raff - that will be the Meadowlands. How successful this plan will be is another question.

As long as admission to the casino is $500,000 we should be fine. YEAH RIGHT! Old folks gambling away their SS checks and new immigrants who think that appearing to be a "high roller" is the American way. Casinos are garbage culture.

Liberty Park & Jersey City do not need a casino -- let it go in land to the Meadowlands (part of the Meadowlands are in JC) take it there.

why not legalize prostitution and tax it. register the sex workers and have them get regular check-ups, benefits, etc...neither nevada nor the holland have fallen off the earth because of legalized prostitution. it is alos legal in brazil and france.

However, a casino is vastly preferable to the race track that I think is supposed to be part of this massive development. Who wants to hear loud race cars all the time? Does anyone know whether the race track will definitely happen?

Race track and ferris wheel have been dropped. They were bait.
