Can we kill this topic once and for all - everyone by now should know not to park at Shop-Rite and then shop at Newport. If you park and shop, expect to get towed and stop complaining!

EZ and Danny's towing are making pretty good living for sure. It looks like a big business to me, definitely a very profitable one. Maybe somebody should count how many cars they tow every day and send a letter to the IRS. It seems like a perfect business. Most towing companies prey on uniformed people. I know guy who used to run a towing company, and told me thighs you would not believe. I wonder who gave them this contract and who pays for that. I?ve seen their drivers racing down Warren Street like crazy, at least 60 MPH, talking on radios while driving and breaking traffic rules. To be honest with you somebody should investigate this. I think Shoprite and BJ?s should pay more attention to other issues, like for example people stealing clothes from recycle containers parked on their lot.

Ah, "thighs you would not believe" in a uniform. My old meter maid fantasy rears it's ugly head, but in that "the boot" has a different meaning....

I don't think they actually make that much money off the parking. They have to charge something to discourage commuters and others from treating the mall lot as some sort of park-and-ride. If you look at the fee schedule for parking there, the cost to park there shoots up exponentially after 4 hours. If they didn't do that, I can picture a lot people driving there and then taking the PATH the rest of the way to work.

If the point was to discourage commuters and encourage shoppers, there would be 2 hrs free before any charge. They would still bag you for a movie or a longer shopping expedition. That's not what they do, some bean counter thinks shopper parking is a profit center to be milked.

Whether I am charged nothing or $2.00 for a half hour so I can return something has absolutely no impact on those that would use the lot as commuter parking. As long as they charge a high rate for cars that are in the lot for more than 4 or 5 hours, they have the commuter issue covered. I will go almost anywhere before I go to the mall because of the parking fees. I can find most of what I need elsewhere. Even the movie theatres are ten times cleaner, more comfortable and QUIETER anywhere but at Newport.

That's exactly why they did that. The lot would be max capacity on busy shopping days (like say... this month) from commuters using it as free parking for the path and ferries.

As a resident of that neighborhood, I can say that no, you will not find a spot. All you will do is create more traffic and make it more difficult for the people who actually live here to get around.

Just suck it up and deal with the fact that if you want to drive to the mall, you'll have to pay for parking.

If you don't want to pay for parking take public transportation. There are buses, a PATH train and a Light Rail that go directly to Newport Mall. Use them.

+1. Seriously, cough up a few bucks to park at the mall. Or take public transportation.

Aside from the mall in the 33rd. St. PATH station in Nyc I believe this is the only mall in the country without a parking lot. Newport Mall happens to be located near a commuter parking lot. It is not the mall's parking lot.

please don't encourage people to park on the 8th and 9th st. side streets... it's already hard enough for us residents to find parking... just pay the $$ or drive to a mall with free parking, k?

If I have learned anything from living in Jersey City, just follow the rules. The police, parking authority, etc. are just waiting for you to screw up so they can fine the heck out you. This means, when you ride the light rail, buy a round trip ticket and validate it or else there is a good chance you will get a $70 ticket. Park on the correct side of the street and if you don't have a permit, 2 hours means 2 hours. Park in the correct lots. It's not to difficult.

And most important rule, don't bitch about it on the JCList because most will have no sympathy for you.

The validation at the concierge desk works, however, only the parking garage on the west side of the mall is accepting validated tickets. The garage that is connected to Macy's and JC Penny is no longer participating. I found out this past weekend. Also, the North East Garage doesn't accept the validated tickets.

Welcome to Jersey City lol

I refuse to pay for mall parking, for such a crappy mall. I usually park on 2nd street, behind BJs.....which is legal (make sure you read the street signs) :) A bit of walk, but doesn't everyone need to walk more?

What bothers me most is that Danny's Towing is right here in the neighborhood. Day in, day out he tows his victims through the streets of downtown to his garage. I know there are those who will say he's just making an honest living, but if your money comes from screwing your neighbors, you're a sad soul.
The towing sign by BJ's is too small and old to be noticed as it should. That is part of the game. And there is no doubt that they are all in bed together playing that good old fashioned game of "kick-back."

I contacted Steve Fulop about this but realistically there's nothing he can do. I wrote to the State Attorney General's office and received no reply. And so it goes.

You mean zone permit, resident permit parking is different. Zone parking has a 2 hour limit, where resident parking does not allow parking.

I am impressed that they can remember who goes with which car. If you go into Shoprite, spend 15 minutes in there, then come out, walk over to the mall, how can they possibly remember which car you came from? especially when it it busy!

OMG, InTheHeights, did you just move here recently? This topic has been done to death on JCList, and the Webmaster will merge your thread with the one begun ages ago on this same topic. The upshot: Yes, we all know NOT to park there and shop at the mall. And NO, you won't find any sympathy on this forum for getting towed if you did indeed park at BJ's/ShopRite to avoid paying a few bucks for mall parking.

Word to the wise? they are towing like crazy when you park at PepBoys, BJs, Shoprite to go to Newport Mall right now- Merry Christmas! I got towed last night, along with many others. Just a warning! Pay the $ to park at the mall (even though it's ridiculous that a mall charges you to park!) Trust me, it's better than paying the scummy tow company $150 like I did last night. (Plus cab fare to get there).
On a side note, I wonder if the guys at Pep Boys get a cut for snitching? I mean, someone is tipping off the tow company and making them a lot of dough! The cabbies benefit too, for sure. What a sleazy business to be in. It's a horrible feeling to spend all of your $ on Christmas gifts in the mall, and come outside only to find that your car is missing and you have to spend another hour and $150 to get it back.

I would think Pep Boys is responsibility once you give them the keys and fill out the forms.

As I posted before, I will not drop my car off at Pep Boys for repairs anymore. It may be their responsibility if my car is towed, but I REALLY don't want to take the chance then have to deal with all the hassle.

The blinds at Home Depot were a sort of sickly brown color and around $75 for the size I needed. The blinds at JCPenney are/were on sale for 40% off and worked out to about $50 each. We also already had a couple sets of the JCP blinds and they work/look great. Okay back to topic! Towing sucks!
