Does every crevice of the city have to be built up as soon as possible as much as possible?

I used to live on Monmouth on the other side of Old Colony Mall. I still take my kids to P.S. 3. I go shopping at Ranch 99 and have the occasional craving for Popeyes or a donut from Dunkin Donuts. A while back I used the auto body shop to fix a banged up car for a few hundred bucks that the insurance company insisted was totalled. Point being that I've been around there and still have occasion to go there.

Sure you could spruce up those few blocks and build some townhouses or apartments, but is the city really hurting because they haven't done so yet? If the current landowners are really squatting or speculating that's one thing, but if it's just a question of waiting a couple of years, or maybe building a little smaller, then why give a developer the power of eminent domain at the expense of current owners, residents, and business owners?

In light of the recent tax increases in Downtown due to the reval and pending school tax increases, it's in DTJC's best interest to build as dense as it can, wherever it can. Many homeless people live in that area in the abandoned housing and that area does not feel safe at night.

Bingo! I don't understand why the anti-development people don't understand that. Also, the more luxury the development, the more tax revenue it will bring in (be it PILOT payments or property taxes, it's still revenue to the city). The luxury tower at 99 Hudson alone will have over 700 condos with assessments averaging $750,000. That's over half a billion in new ratables and 6-7 million in new property taxes. They new money can be used to lower everyone's taxes or be used to fund additional city services.

HAHAHAHAHAH!!

When have you EVER seen property taxes go DOWN??????

NOT in NJ!

To all you Liberal Dems that voted this idiot in - good for you, you're getting what you deserve. How come when New Jerseyians get hit with more taxes because of Trumps tax plan it's bad but when this a-hole promises the world and raises taxes on everything it's OK?

King Steve and the anti-business DemoCRAPS - business as usual. How is it that Krispy Kreme just opened near Grove Path - grease the pockets a little?

At least there won't be another four more years of this anti-business attitude in Washington.

Fulop drops out of 2017 race endorses longtime foe Bill Matsikoudis….

In a stunning presser this morning on the steps of City Hall Mayor Steven Fulop announced he will not seek a second term as the Mayor of Jersey City. As incredible as that news was he continued with a much more troubling announcement. He is throwing his full support behind his longtime rival Bill Matsikoudis to insure that he becomes the next Mayor of Jersey City.

The short notice of the press release and the live announcement itself caught JC’s political world by surprise. The Jersey Journal’s Political Insider Agustin Torres and reporter Terrence McDonald were speechless for once. Terrence was fanatically trying to get in touch with Matsikoudis for a quote to put into his JJ column. Stating that he has to keep his record up of having a Matsikoudis quote (or picture) in every Jersey City political piece he does. Political Insider Agustin Torres is heart sick considering his piece on how Fulop is a shoe in for Mayor is in today’s Jersey Journal print edition. Bad timing or a nice parting shot directed towards Augie from Mayor Fulop? You decide. (I’ll go with the latter)

Details behind the bizarre announcement are forthcoming but a few insiders (a favorite source for the Jersey Journal) have said that it all stemmed from last week’s meeting between Mayor Fulop and Councilman Boggiano. Mayor Fulop is said to have asked old-time Jersey City resident and Ward C Councilman Boggiano if he should seek a second term. As any Ward C constituent will tell you Rich Boggiano is the go to person for advice current or future, that he is also known as the Zoltar of Jersey City. (he sees the future of a Journal Square with no building over 4 stories and construction workers using hammers with silencers attached) Well Mayor Fulop asked and oddly enough Boggiano pulled out a card from his desk and answered a flat out “NO!” Not wanting to advance his age 20 years ala Tom Hanks and knowing that the NYC FAO Schwarz is now closed (would have been fun to jump around that giant keyboard) Mayor Fulop accepted the answer and was off to prepare todays withdrawal announcement. After Fulop left Boggiano’s office a few faint laughs could be heard coming from the back room. It was none other than Councilman Yun with a few bundles of “NO!” cards next to a massive pile of ripped in two “YES!” cards. Seems he picked up the “NO!” cards cheap at a Montvale NJ yard sale. (a new No-bbie Brothers tune was playing in the back ground)

In related news there is a report of a suicidal man perched high on the Wittpenn Bridge. He is said to be holding a banner with the cryptic words of.. …”If the Healy clone becomes mayor Sound Machine will jump”. Observers who stopped their cars to take a look were intrigued by the message. (most cars were stopped in place for 10 minutes already because of the daily nightmare traffic jams in the area) A few yelled to the rather large person to stop and come down. Saying 4 years of Matsikoudis cannot in anyway be as bad as the 9 years of Healy even though Matsikoudis was Healy’s right-hand man during his tenure as Mayor. But some in the crowd yelled out for the man to jump. Calling out that the man was nothing more than a Fulop bootlicker toady boy and should end it all. One in the crowd kept yelling out “Just Do it Bruce… JUMP”. A very disturbing situation indeed. The JCPD said he was requesting a meeting or phone call from the Mayor himself. Sources say the Mayor and his wife are in a remote part of Pennsylvania competing in a Tough Mudder obstacle course and couldn’t (or didn't want to) be reached regarding the jumper. That could spell trouble for the guy on the bridge. (and the poor fish when he hits the water)

More to come…..

HaHa April fools!

Let's put the crowd comparisons, Trump's self congratulatory tone of speeches, and whether or not he really belongs to a particular political party aside for one moment. Do you think the liberal people in the country have a right to protest peacefully like they did at the women's march? Or should they just accept they lost and move on?

Of course I think what happened at the inaugural protests by a minority of the people in attendance was abhorrent.

You hit nail on the head... the right to peaceful assembly is a human right in this country, guaranteed by Bill of Rights. Most people are smirking at the hysteria... no US citizen is going loose their inalienable right to the pursuit happiness or liberty.

He is not a democrat or republican, that is why out of touch Washington DC is so shaken. He heard a message, saw it travelling the country and told the 10s of thousands of people at his arena rallies that he heard them.

Obama came into his first presidency with so much promise and instead of getting the economy going and getting us out of the Middle East in an orderly manner, he focused on the progressive shopping list which is totally opposite of what concerns regular people.

For an example, our American family, friends and neighbors are being ruthlessly murdered in nightclubs, road races and attacked at landmarks like Times Square. Obama and his sycophants blamed all this Global Warming. And then in desperation label us as racists etc.

Hillary promised to continue his failed progressive agenda and making global warming #1 does not put food on the average American's table. This presidency is a direct result of democrat party failure to support all Americans.

The BigGuy is 100% right!! +!!
