Re: Wash and Fold Service

A quick +1 and a thank you for the recommendation. Just gave in myself and will never again set foot in a laundromat.

Daryl's the best. Nicely folded and fresh-smelling clothes. 24 hr turnaround in DTJC. Online scheduling and payment. So convenient and on-time.

I wholeheartedly agree with the beauty of finally giving in and doing a wash and fold service! I gave in two years ago. I just wanted to throw in another recommendation: Time to Wash Laundry.

Easy online scheduling. Same day service (except for dry cleaning). Always on time! And when I'm running late, Daryl is super great about working with my schedule. Paypal billing. Love everything about it. Long live the wash and fold!

+1 on Chariot Auto

Ricky's fast, thorough and reasonable.

Agree, Summit Auto is one of the best around.

Recently, I needed an emergency repair and went to Chariot Auto on 71 Coles Street between 4th and 5th Streets. It's just a block from my home.

Great price to replaced radiator, thermostat, and hoses. It was same day service, and Ricky, the owner, stayed an extra hour to finish the job. The job was a bit more complicated for my car, but the total was just under 400 dollars.

It's not too much of a schlep from Paulus Hook.

I use the Red Cross bins next to the firehouse on Marin.

Excellent suggestion, 07310. Thanks!

Just came back from dropping off some items there. Easy, safe, and better yet, no grabby moochers hanging out.

I was all geared up for the Dickinson protest today, but I think the school and school board made the right decision to let school out early (hopefully avoiding large-scale student confrontation.) And especially considering the lackluster showing by the WBC in Hoboken yesterday, it seems unnecessary to take valuable time to counter-protest these folks.

I spoke with one lesbian student from Dickinson who told me that at least one group will be protesting. I imagine not too many JCers realize how diverse and (relatively) tolerant our high schoolers are, so it would be almost nice if the high school's gay rights group got a little press.

Finally -- kudos to the JJ for their piece on yesterday's protests. The tone was just right and I like that they left the WBC out of the photo.

Agreed. Cool photo. God Hates Signs :)

Sporadic problems here near 3rd Street. An automated message at the customer service number reports problems in the area and that they are working on it.

It might not be good for the developers, nor for the Condo market, but they will likely just rent the unsold units out, which may be great for downtown - renters tend to be younger and "funner" than Condo owners. No offense! Just less baby strollers and more drinkers.

We are still much cheaper over here than Manhattan, and the best parts of Brooklyn & Queens. So it'll be rentals...

They have a guy staking out the lot. Even if you buy a token item from Pep Boys or the other shops, they nab your car when you cross the street into the mall.

Seen them with their talkies/two-ways eyeing folks at all hours any day of the week.

Thanks for reporting it.

I've had a couple of close calls there myself. It's bad enough some people don't yield to pedestrians (it's the law folks) but I've been given the evil eye because some tool wanted to park there while I was trying to cross.

Evil eye right back atcha!

Saw it about noon, flying right over JC (was headed north on Monmouth at the time). Agreed, impressive and surreal like CRV2 said. Perfect day for it, too.

Plus BJ carts will become self-aware and start towing cars out of the lot... out of spite (and a cut of the action).

+1 for Secaucus.

Usually, there are long waits on the day or two leading up to the first of every month (esp. that Saturday). Avoid those and you'll be in and out in 10 min.

Well you can add Morton Williams to the list of JC stores that are towing away their customers.

Today, Sunday, I parked in front of Morton Williams at about 6 PM, by 6:25 the car had disappeared.

After returning my groceries, I had to find a cab, and then fork over $152 (cash only, of course) to retrieve my car from the EZ Towing garage.

So that certainly was not the luxury shopping experience I had hoped for.

Buyer beware.

Rule of thumb: avoid parking on the newer streets down there. Definitely not car-friendly. There are signs alerting (warning) you that you're entering private property and the parking times/regulations read as if pulled out of someone's... well you know.

Sorry you had to deal with that :(

That happened to me once... someone put a ticket on my legally parked car. But, the ticket was for public urination.

I couldn't figure out why someone would do that so your post clears it up.

Agreed. The reference section should have old books chronicling the city's early years. Failing that, I remember seeing a book on Jersey City's history with tons of pics in the NJ travel/map section of Barnes and Noble (rt. 3, Clifton). There were others as well, Hoboken, Newark, etc...

Good luck.

Have to agree. Narrow it down to at least a neighborhood and an old timer or two will reply with a fairly accurate assessment. Otherwise you'll walk away with the impression that all of JC is lawless, knee deep in dog poop, and is forever lacking the "essentials" (FIOS, Starbucks, Whole Foods...).
