This case still bothers me every time I walk by the deli. Does anyone know if anyone was ever caught?

Thanks. That's something useful that I had forgotten.
Though I share Elvis' skepticism.

And Coronalime, I have to wonder why you would know about that 'spoofcard', and what you might have used it for.

If you think the cops can't tell who it is if you use that, I have a bridge you may be interested in.

I might be wrong, but it was explained to me by somebody in the telecom industry that *67 doesn't work for 911 calls, but does work for any normal ten-digit numbers, such as the police non-emergency switchboard, or the hudson county prosecutor's and sherriff's departments, which are the numbers people are being encouraged to call.

Ha! Seen one lately?

And did it work?

Besides that, the idea that I might leave my home to call from a payphone, when I see something from my back window is ludicrous.

Got any other ideas?

Get one of these: http://www.spoofcard.com/ although it doesn't work on 911.

And most calling cards will show up as the number of the calling card company, not yours.

Not pertaining to the subject of this particular thread but in general;

How can one call the police anonymously, considering that our caller ID, along with our name and address will be shown to the switchboard operator?

That has been an issue of concern to me on a couple of occasions over the past few years.

The Detective still needs info. If you were in the area between 8am - 10am, please call him...EVEN IF YOU DIDN'T SEE ANYTHING! This will still help. YOU CAN ALSO CALL ANONYMOUSLY.

The Hudson County Homicide Unit Needs Info
? Please ask them to call Detective John Kilroy at 201.915.1345, 201.577.6647 or email him at infohelp.kiritparikh@gmail.com.
? If not, please go out and knock on doors and ask start asking people if they were in the area. This time mapping will help the Unit paint a clear picture.
o Ex. I dropped off my child at 8:15 am.
o Ex. I drove down Coles Street at approximately 8:50 am.

What about opportunity / opportunists and GREED that could relate to poverty!
Then you have crime that relates to gang initiations and everyone's favorite - random acts of violence / crime.

But because NJ gun laws favor the criminal, all Mr. Parikh had at his disposal during the robbery was his courage and his pride.

That is no match against a thug with no conscience and a nine milla in his hand.

I blame the pathetic, corrupt, and totalitarian State of New Jersey for Mr. Parikh's loss of life.

Your answer to gun violence is more guns?

Perhaps if the person who commited this crime had access to good schools, a stable community, a stable home life, and opportunities to do things like go to college, this wouldn't have happened.

I understand that I'm making assumptions and I understand that I'm being a bit of a pollyanna but I don't think these assumptions are too far off the mark.

The solution to violent crime and drug use isn't to have every man, woman, and child armed to the teeth. The solution to the problems that drive these kinds of violent crime is giving people the same opportunites in life regardless of socio-economic class.

Please do not misunderstand. I in no way think that any cirumstance excuses this horrible action but the resulting call to arms should not be for more guns, it should be for better schools and communities.

It's a tragedy for everyone involved and I feel for that family.

Yep lets write a memoir to this cretin. But of course it's our fault that we didn't give him a good upbringing! Shame on us for not giving this guy a better education. You forgot to mention that we probably took his dad away too...and introduced him to guns and drugs. Really - this guy had great intentions at conception!

Can I add to that and say poverty of the mind and soul, not the pocketbook. I grew up poor, and know many people who were very poor, but they did not become criminals.

Oh, and having bad parents isn't very good either.

Are you seriously comparing Littleton Colorado to the incident on Coles? An isolated incident of two depressed teens versus a legion of morons who kill store clerks over petty cash? ... oh and the unfortunate thing is that guy didn't shoot himself afterwards.

You are assuming that, given the ability to pack heat, he would have done so. The amount of people using this incident for political purposes is a bit shocking. But I'd also put forward the question - Why don't you move to somewhere you can carry legally? It's America. Nobody forces you to stay in a pathetic, corrupt, totalitarian New Jersey.

I don't agree with gun control, by the way.

You'd think a few red zone parkers (vigil attendees) could get some brief slack, given the ocassion. Nothing like JCPA buggies circling the park to bring dignity to such a solemn event.

As always, this city is a class act.

Were tickets given out? Many times when there is going to be a large crowd that is moving from one place to another parking authority is summoned to use the buggies to stop car traffic, etc. I see this daily when a school near my office has the kids on foot going from one location to another. I don't mind the use of the JCPA for this if it frees up the PD squad cars for patrolling etc. (if this was the case).

Our country glorifies gun crime..from the toys for toddlers to video games for teenagers to high body counts on television and movies gun violence is portrayed as a part of everyday life. Michael Moore\'s documentary BOWLING FOR COLUMBINE revealed that Canada even with higher unemployment and higher gun ownership
than the United States , the murder rate is approx 1/10 of it\'s neighbour to the south.
Gun violence is embedded in the fabric of our society. This has got to change.
