Summit Avenue runs from Bergen Hill, through McGinley Square, Journal Square, and the Heights. How do we know what part of Summit Ave this incident happened?

Hey GrovePath, are you the shooter? That would explain it.

I was not sure how rough the kids were there and anyway they did not have enough places for the first graders so I put my daughter in St Aloysius on West Side as a relatively inexpensive alternative. I find it is safe and small environment but not that rigorous. With the economy as it is, and my absolutely stunning parlor floor apartment without a tenant (please come see--shameless plug) I want to find an excellent public school for next year, second grade. I have heard that No. 1 and martin Luther King are good--true? Can anyone tell me how I can go about this. The individual schools do not seem to give tours or accept applications and I probably missed the lottery for charter schools. Any advice?

Sweetie, you bought property and you've lived there for almost a year, please stop spelling it "McKinley".

I didn't realize public schools just let parents shop around. With the exception of charter schools (a debate for another thread) I'm pretty sure you can't just "apply" for the public school you like the mostest.

If your approach to pro-active parenting isn't particularly rigorous, why should your child's education be?

I don't see any litter boxes anywhere (parks etc) and who is not to say that these cats are not pissing and pooing in childrens' sand boxes or gardens, when a pregnant women might be planting flowers ?

With the worst case scenario being to an unborn child who's mother is exposed to cat poo / piss, can they also sue animal liberation groups and their members for their demand to let stays and feral cats free in populated inner city areas ?

There are FAR better places to see a movie on the big screen than either Secaucus or Newport.

Funny, "CANKICKER" also used the term "Animals" to describe minority youth that he blamed for the downfall of the formerly utopian JC Heights.

He also never met a superfluous exclamation mark he didn't like, was too lazy to spell out the word "your" and "you're" instead favoring "yr", and loved to leave spaces before punctuation marks.

Gunpoint robbery at noon on Essex St. Downtown

Thursday, February 12, 2009

A New York City man was robbed at gunpoint in Downtown Jersey City yesterday morning and the thieves escaped by running away along the Light Rail tracks, officials said.

Officers sent to Hudson and Essex streets at 12:03 a.m. met the 25-year-old victim, who told them two men approached him and one had what looked like a black revolver, reports said.

One man said to the victim, "Give me your money and your phone and I'll kill you if you don't give me the cash," reports said.

The victim gave them $50 from his wallet and handed over his $400 cell phone before the pair took off running east on Essex, reports said.

Do you eat food? the packages they come in were designed by someone...

Do you like the park? gee, that was designed by someone too...

Do you read magazines & newspapers? Graphic artists and photographers hard at work there.

Oh and what about that expensive bottle of wine you are drinking with dinner, do you think the delivery guy drew the picture on the label for you?

Somebody more familiar with the program please chime in, but with the exception of maybe the photographer described above, I don't think any of the people/professions ilikeglass is talking about would qualify as an "artist" for the purposes of the city's program.

Cartoonist? Sure. Non-commercial photographer? Okay.

Landscape designer? Graphic designer at an ad agency or working in house for General Mills? Not so much.

Do you get my point? perhaps you do not see artists everyday like you see the bus driver or the store clerk but our contribution to society is no less valuable.

And who out there is really working the political system to their benefit anyway???Politicians? CEO's? Trump?

Basically, the arts are always the first to get kicked in the ass when time get hard.

I also believe that there need to be affordable places to live for everyone, not just one group. If you are a cop or firefighter or teacher, they also have special programs that help them buy homes based on their chosen profession. Why not artists too?

What are the special programs available to cops and teachers to buy homes? I'm not familiar with them.
