I do not believe anyone should rot in prison but that being said, during the Cucci Administration, various papers including the Jersey Journal did cover the welfare department in JC. The late Earl Morgan specifically wrote about the characters involve in this scandal. I only want to add, there is some truth in the wheelman comment.

They have recently developed some gel and foam pepper sprays that should take care of the wind problem.

Curious as to who ships to NJ, I have never seen any dealers willing to do so. Not busting your chops, I'm legitimately curious.

As for NY, it is from "a licensed firearms dealer or pharmacist". I don't know about permits though.

For those contemplating adding OC spray to your "feel better walking down dark streets at night" kit- the wind is not your friend. More often than not you'll wind up spraying yourself.

If you are going to buy it- test it! Every three - six months or so. Someplace well ventilated and private. If you can find one, take a course- I don't know of any around here but you'd better know how to use it. In a good course, you'll probably be on the receiving end of the OC at some point. You will NOT enjoy this but you WILL appreciate it should you have to actually use the spray someday.

Stay safe.

When I asked several police in JC , all gave me different answers.

After further research I found out that in NJ you can carry up to 3/4 of an ounce. basically the keychain type. when I go out late night I carry a 4 ounce cannister. More fire power. Although it is illegal , i'll take my chances. With the 3/4 ounce you could take no more than 1 or maybe 2 attackers. It's a small dose.

For home use I think there is no limit on the size of the cannister.

Get a keychain pepper spray from fox labs . About $10.00. Keep it easily accessible otherwise its useless. Basically hold your keys by the spray cannister at all times. You usually have milliseconds to react in an attack.

This mugging was covered on WABC today, along with the mugging of Mirna Moreira.

I was mugged serveral years ago and have never considered carrying pepper spray or taken defense classes. I live in the metropolian area were crimes happen. We can try to reduce accurances. As a community we can help bring awareless and create a plan of action with our neighbors and our city officials.

In my situation, I wanted to reduce the risks of this happening to me again. Was I careless, could I've been more alert, could I done something different, do i need to change bad habits that put me in danger? In my case the anwser was yes to all. In NO WAY am justifying criminal acts, but muggers have a twisted sence of entitlement. I can't change how muggers think, but I can change how I think and what I do.

Regarding pepper spray-

Completely legal to purchase with one caveat- it must be purchased IN THE STATE, it cannot be shipped to the state of New Jersey. In other words, you can't buy it online or through a catalog. Compare it with NY though and it looks like militia country- in NY state, you have to purchase your pepper spray from a firearms dealer or pharmacist.

And I wouldn't advise carrying anything more dangerous than a nail file in New York city, you're liable to wind up in jail even if you use it to defend yourself.

Note- I'm not a lawyer and you should never take any advice on the internet as solid legal advice.

This is big news.

When I moved to Hamilton park.. I thought it was pretty safe.. but I'd read about crime in the papers. I rarely read the papers now (they would get stolen off my doorstoop so I stopped getting them) but I hear about the robberies from my neighbors. So I know it's happening... not from the papers, but by the first hand stories. This one had their car stolen, this and that one had their cars broken into... three people I know had their apt's broken into. These are dreadful experiences.

Aw geez, I hate to hear this sort of thing. In addition to feeling bad for the victim, I wonder whether or not I should tell my girlfriend. I want her to be safe and careful, but she already is and carries pepper spray too, and I'd rather not panic her.

Having a self-defense seminar is fine. There's nothing wrong with it and can actually be helpful/a good thing. But, SERIOUSLY, are they suggesting we resort to vigilanteism?

Hey...wait a minute... What if that worked?
