Re: New Mexican Food Cart Downtown

The cart is at the path now, just had the 'Original' with pork. Pretty good sandwich for $7, filled me up.

The hot sauce it comes with is HOT!

Definitely different than Taqauria. However, I would say the food is just as good and you get a bit more for your money.

Same deal coming back from EWR to JC. The Newark taxis will charge close to $50 to Jersey City. Any JC service will charge the same $25.

It seems plausible if the study includes survey and construction plans that would allow the project to be "shovel ready".

Yvonne is spewing a lot of misinformation that I suggest most people forget.

If you are really interested in knowing the intricate details of JC's property tax code search the site for some of JCLAW's posts. He/She seems to be the only person on this site who understands the system.

Some threads:

I don't expect most of you to research because it is more fun to post inaccurate knee-jerk responses.

Speaking of bollards when are they going to install them at the office building at Columbus and Marin? Those big concrete slabs are awful.

What are they called again?

Is this sarcasm? You can't be serious. The cronyism, incompetence and corruption are the sources for the high government costs.

Its amazing that New Jersey residents keep voting for the same people.

Not to defend the PATH, but the Beijing subway is only 40 years old while the PATH is 101 years old.

This could contribute to things taking longer, but they should have had this worked out years ago.

Ate here for the first time and I'm sorry I waited so long. Every piece was outstanding. Between two of us, we ordered 8 separate items (not including drinks) and they were all fantastic.

The price was not bad at all, the same meal in NYC could easily cost twice as much.

Anyone that hasn't tried Ox for dinner should give it a try. Very reasonable for the quality of the food.

Donations to a campaign are not taxes levied by government. HUGE difference.

Nice try though.

You simply sound too polite to live in JC. After living in many cities I have found that JC residents can be some of the nastiest people around. However it is cheap and close to Manhattan so we live with it.

Police officer's job is to protect and serve. From the smallest quality of life crime to murders. It is their job and they signed up for it. They deserve respect and they should should be respectful to citizens.

I think you did the right thing but the fact is that there are a lot of awful people out there and sometimes the shortest path is around them.

I'm glad the passed a budget, however a 3.3% decrease hardly seems like enough cutting. Property taxes are up 3.5% this year, where is the gap?

It would be nice if they could actually cut property taxes in times of continuing trouble for home owners.

It would be wonderful to have a river side walk / bike path from Bayonne to the GW. Unfortunately poor planning by many of the Gold Coast cities has made this virtually impossible.

Hopefully this stretch will be more successful.

You talk out of both sides of your mouth. If you went form 3k to 16k that means you were not paying your fair share.

Exactly! New taxes is not the solution. Revaluation of all taxes is more important (not just property taxes).

Nobody wants to loose neighbors, but everyone has to pay their fair share.

Your logic is completely flawed. Shakatah is right, before any taxes are added current taxes need revaluation.

Once you add a tax, it will never go away.

I know I'm only one person and threats are meaningless, however if JC adds a income tax I am out of here. JC will not see 1c of my income.

The only problem which I haven?t been able to resolve is how to know who to call if the alarm goes off. If one of you accidently sets it off, the alarm company will only call one number. If they call tenant 1, she won?t know if it?s a true alarm if it?s been set off by the tenant 2 or tenant3/tenant4. Unfortunately, the police department will come and write a summons if it?s a false alarm. I believe they allow you two without issuing the summons, but after that it?s a problem. If any of you have any suggestions on how we can alleviate this problem, please let me know.

Is there a security system that works for multi-family homes? I haven't called companies yet. Should we all just get our own systems? Maybe they'll cut us a break since it's three in the same building.

If you are willing to pay the expense, you can get a extra phone line for the alarm call back. You would put a phone in each apartment to be used for this callback and everyone would get the call. You would want to notify everyone if there is a break in anyway. I assume you all know each other well.

It is sad that they have to have the towing policy, but if they didn't, do you not think the parking lot for those businesses would become a giant "free" parking lot for Newport, the Path train and anyone who works at Exchange place? Newport probably charges to park to discourage commuters from leaving their cars there all day too. Just a thought. I am not defending Newport, the place give me a headache and I avoid it as often as possible :q

Agreed, however, they could due more to alert shoppers. A very large sign next to the entrance to the Wachovia bank entrance would probably help a lot.

Also, they could higher a more ethical towing company, if that concept even exists.

I don't know much about Manzo except for one issue. Manzo would impose a Jersey City income tax if elected.

from: http://www.manzo4jerseycity.com/press.htm

"Finally, the time has come to fund schools through income taxes rather than property taxes."

and

"While in elected state office, former Assemblyman Lou Manzo of Jersey City championed a Smart Bill that put together a formula that switched the source of financing schools from property taxes to income taxes. "

If Manzo is elected and he does enact a income tax, I will be the first out of here. There is no way I'm paying high real-estate taxes + city income tax.
