I come here mainly for info, to post community info for various groups and to find out what's going on in Jersey City without the rants on nj.com, the lack of info on the well-intentioned jerseycityvibe, or the parochial POV of NWA.

Bright Moments to all of you!

I am glad that the webmaster has addressed this issue, it has been the 800 pound gorilla in the room lately.

I wrote on his site that i will post to both jclist and wiredjc but i would hope that the new site would not be a "look at what they are saying on jclist" bitchathon. So far it has not been and everyone there was in agreement (prior to my post actually).

With that said, i hope that the people on this site will not use jclist as a bash non and friends site either. I have friends at both sites and i take it personally when they are attacked. A little ribbing is ok, and a jab here and there is fine, but i think it is a disservice to jclist to assume that everyone here hates non (it is simply not the case), it makes this site look bad and in the long run it could cost jclist members.

Everyone needs to take the high road, shake hands like civil human beings, and be on their merry way (that's a nice string of cliches isn't it?).

You've summed up just about everything I?ve felt/feel regarding this situation. I want to also add that we have all pushed the limit with some of our shut box conversations. I really do appreciate the Webmasters patience when we all acted a bit too silly and a bit too naughty in the sb. I wish both sites the best of luck and continued success.

Yep - I heard on NPR yesterday morning that there are more poor people in the suburbs than in the cities.

Yep - that's the building, it's primarily Dr's offices, where my GP is too.

Please note that Dr Bertolucci only deals with retinal issues, if you need a regular eye exam you probably just need an optometrist. I used to go to the Dr's at Newport Mall, they even recommended a good doc for LASIK.

We love it there, we haven't been there in a couple of weeks. My only gripe is that they close early on Sundays, about 6:30pm - 7pm.

Last year for my birthday my mom was going to make roast pork, rice and beans etc... for the family and ended up breaking her wrist, so I ordered dinner for 10 people from them, it was either $40 or $50 (and I'm thinking it was closer to $40) and they gave us a ton of food, easily fed another 10 people. I wouldn?t hesitate to order catering from them again. They won't make yuca for less than 20 though :(

I got stuck with workmen at my apt until about 8:20, I came out to see if there was anyone on my corner (Wayne & Barrow). I have to say at the time the park was eerily deserted. I'm sorry I missed hooking up with the others on my street

I saw that too, I caught the tail end as they were out of there but I am curious as to what was going on. The "immigration" police vehicle caught my eye. I can't remember exactly what it was (immigration & homeland security maybe?) - just remember seeing immigration on the side of it.

My understanding is that it is illegal to call 911 and make a false report to an emergency or give a false address to an emergency.

Once the police arrived to the wrong address, they should called the 911 operator and requested that they track / trace the source of the complaint via the telephone.

By doing that, they could have spoken to the initial 911 caller for more information or charged them for making a false alarm call to 911.

Police must have a policy dealing with 'crank' calls to 911, this way if it was a mistake by the caller, a trace can be made to take the appropriate action - either calling them back or going to the point of origin. (address of the caller)

This is BASIC policing procedures, especially if the 2 officers just went back to 'general patrolling' and not to another emergency.

The article mentioned that they tried calling the witness back but they couldn't get through.

I don't think it's so bad for the kids to wear uniforms, but I think it's ridiculous that they're getting detention for not wearing the emblem. The schools should provide parents the option to get patches or decals that they can add to existing shirts. Or at least a letter in the mail during the summer to let parents know that it will be enforced and there will be disciplinary action taken against the student if they don't comply.

The own/run my building. I would give them an OK rating, just OK.

I get things taken care of in my apt. I know people that had problems, not sure what their rent paying status was tho'. As for overall building maintenance, I think they drag their feet on certain things, but have to say they have improved dramatically over the years.

I say if the building is in good condition and you like the apt and intend on paying your rent on time, go for it.

One of the owner's kids is on jclist, maybe he would like to chime in?

On the whole, the state has high incomes, along with a high cost of living. Half the households make more than $61,672 per year ? putting the Garden State just ahead of Connecticut as the nation's richest. And the poverty rate of 8.7 percent is lower than every state except for New Hampshire, Maryland and Connecticut.

Looks like Connecticut is in the same boat, worse, their poverty rate is worse than ours...

During the first seven months of 2006, compared to the same period in 2005, murders are down 21 percent, rapes up 2 percent, robberies down 7 percent, aggravated assaults down 20 percent, burglaries down 22 percent, theft down 10 percent, auto theft down 18 percent and arson is down 34 percent, Comey said.

The numbers here are looking pretty good. It will be nice to see them continuing the downslide.

I like:

1> The people
2> The bars and restaurants*
3> The fact that most of my friends are within walking distance as are all the bars we go to
4> That we can take a very long walk along the water with the beautiful view - ours is better than theirs! nah nah
5> That we can walk to LSP
6> My back porch/yard - the insanity in the asylum
7> PATH runs 24hours - even if we do detour though Hoboken (my friend had to leave early on Friday night because her car was parked at Montclair - they don't have train service on the weekends)
8> Pecoraro's & 2nd St Bakery
9> The nice people that say hello and are friendly in my building
10> My neighbors kids that watch my cats while we're away
11> JClist and all the great people I met through here
12> The arts
13> Walking distance from a mall & Target
14> Non-NYC rents
15> The local characters and flavor

Did I miss anything?
