Talked to the guy who lives in the attacked building. He said it took 911 6 minutes to PICK UP.

According to a neighbor from across the street, these guys were walking up 7th, really loud, throwing things at random houses, and decided to go ballistic on this particular one. He said they seemed effed up on something.

It's a nice area. This incident was not anywhere near the norm.
Welcome and feel free to PM me for any neighborhood advice.

Nothing ever comes of it because the owners are connected to law enforcement and corrections People have complained for a dozen years since it reopened. Apparently the only way to lose your liquor license is to break ABC's age or hours laws, no amount of civil disruption will do it. I've NEVER heard of a bar closed because of it's lowlife clientele or being a continually bad neighbor.

Umm No.. 911 is the quickest.. Have you tried calling 5477? I have and i had experiences where the phones rings a number of times before it is answered...

Main thing is you need to put (201) 547-5477 in your cell phones, or speed dial. It is crucial. The Police Chief has records of these calls, they do look at them, and when you call you are speaking to a local dispatcher. They know the area and they speak directly to the officers which creates a quicker response than 911.

I lived on 7th b/c coles and jersey for 2 years. it was fine. i wouldn't worry too much. it is usually pretty quiet. the school kids are annoying but not a big deal.

Great neighborhood. I have only 2 complaints.

1.) Trash on the ground. Mainly in the form of pizza plates from the High Schoolers/city workers

2.) Noise from the Barge Inn (Music Box for those few blocks) from the occasional fight.

With that being said, I love everything else about the hood so I am determined to apply pressure to these businesses and the police to shape up.

Agreed. Been in the hood about a year and I find it quite nice. 1stStguy, it seems you have it in for the Music Box. Maybe I just haven't experienced the same nonsense you have, but it just sorta seems generally rowdy to me - i.e. not life-changing. I like that the catfish station re-opened though; hopefully i can get grub at 3am this summer. Welcome to JC, Bks.

I live on 7th between Cole and Monmouth. Overall it is a good area and your wife will be fine during the day. THe McNair kids tend to make some noise in the afternoon but they are harmless. It is great to be close to both Hamilton Park and Jones park. I have never had (knock on wood) any problems with crime or vandalism. We used to live over by VVP and this area feels much more like a neighborhood.

The only problem in the area is the "Musicbox" for the fights that spill out onto the street, the screaming and overall seediness of the patrons. Also since most of the folks that frequent the Musicbox don't live in the neighborhood, I have had a hard time finding parking spaces on Thursday and Friday nights. I attribute this to the Musicbox crowd parking in the neighborhood. Parking all the other nights seems to be fine.

It is a nice neighborhood. Just has one loud spot that gives us all the opportunity to kvetch.

Welcome to the neighborhood. There are actually a lot of old timers around during the day that keep an eye on everything. Really not such a bad neighborhood. You will be close to Hamilton Park which is nice.

Kids on skateboards can be a little noisy on 8th & Brunswick sometimes but they are usually just having fun.

Hope you like church bell recordings from Holy Rosary at 9am, 3pm, 6pm & 7pm. I personally love them and find them charming.

Music Box bar at 7th & Monmouth got cited recently by ABC. They got shut down for 6 out of 7 Monday nights for first reported offense of serving very late at night. Also required to have a basic dress code. Also supposed to help controll outside noise as much as possible. Most problems seem to happen in the smoking "area" just outside the front door. A lot of the patrons at this bar have the habit of yelling as ordinary converstion. Don't think many from the neighborhood go in this bar. Most of the locals here go in White Star Bar at Pavonia and Brunswick.

during the day you should be fine. It's the element that frequents that place on weekend nights that will make you imagine them meeting their doom in the most grusome way possible.

It may have helped my situation, but it doesn't solve the poor 911/JCPD issues for the next person.

I've called 911 3 times in the last few years for situations that I considered emergencies (one was that I had a shoplifter trapped in my store), and all 3 times I was told to call the non-emergency number. I don't know what they consider an emergency, but it must take a lot.

Mark.

Didn't Jersey City just build a state of the art communications building? Theoretically it should be streamlining the 911 calls for the police and fire departments. I don't know whether it is up and running yet...

201-547-5457 isn?t this a 24hr number?

When you call 911, where does the call go to? Is the system run by the County?

Also one time, my cell in pocket dialed 112 and out of nowhere I get an Unknown call, saying its from the JCPD, are you ok.. I said I didn?t call anyone, and they asked was your phone in your pocket, and I said yes, and all is fine..

So I guess you can try this the next time.

Precisely my point, sweetheart. Before you start pinning gold stars on the illustrious JCPD, keep foremost in your mind that it doesn't act as an entity unto itself in major cases as the carjacking murders.

Just to keep it real --- the JCPD had the critical help of the the NJ State Police and the US Marshal Service in making those arrests possible.

Left only to the JCPD's own resources and abilities, who knows if the arrests would have been made.

I've had the same 911 issue on Verizon, but that was a long time ago. Had the same runaround when I called the local precinct direct. Glad to see nothing has changed in two years.

You can make a complaint with the FCC for the E911 failure. http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm

For the local 7th St police desk complaint, I'm not sure. Maybe go to the local Captain's meeting and speak to him face to face.

Where on 7th was this? It seemed like there was a lot of activity and yelling earlier, but I was asleep by 3.

Woke up around 3AM to a lot of yelling and "F U's" and glass breaking. The front door three doors down has all it's glass broken. I've heard fights before, but this one sounded particularly bad and freaked my wife out so much we left the front room.

Was having trouble calling 911, both phones, same service (ATT) was getting a recorded can't complete message. Looked up the 7th street police station on my iphone. Lady there said to call a different number. I told her the 911 wasn't working and could she help and she just said to call the other number. I called that number and got a recording that said to call 911.

By this time the cops showed up. . By that time crazy people were gone. I listened out my window, and from what I heard - maybe someone here has more info - the people who live there (renovated Brownstone condo units) had no idea who these people were. They mentioned it took 6 minutes for the police to arrive. Doesn't seem that bad to me.

Called 911 this morning to check and its fine. Called ATT and told them and they have a case number and are looking into it.

So two different issues here.

1. Any more info on the incident?
2. JCPD system sucks. I say there's a bad fight going on and 911 isn't working and she gives me a number to a recording.
Who do I complain to?
