Does anyone know if the statue of Jackie Robinson in Journal Square is still standing? I read on a website that it was stolen, but I haven't found out any more information about it. Thanks for any help.

Does anyone know of a mobile dog groomer or one that will come to your home? My dog doesn't get along with other dogs unfortunately. Thank you in advance.

Yup - about 4 months ago, it was the same thing. When we presented the Groupon/LivingSocial/whatever it was, the manager came over and told us they didn't agree to it or whatever. Something is shady here - it almost seems like the manager/owner is doing that to get people in the door, but not offer the discount. It's pretty unlikely that, once seated, patrons will opt to leave (we stayed, and so did Leigh and bodhipooh).

Something is fishy about it, seeing that it happened before and is now happening again.

It is a shame, because I really liked the kabobs I ordered.

I would soooo call/email Living Social or Groupon! Very sketchy and those companies should know not to do business with them.

I tried Satis...and I think it was good but not amazing. Definitely a good option for JC but I think the food at Marco Pepe is better.

Speaking of unfriendly police officers....
Last night, we had an incident walking home from Ninth and Coles Tavern. My sister in law was jumped. The woman who jumped her did not take her purse or money, just wanted to hurt someone. This took place on 7th and Jersey which is one block from the East District Police Station. We went to the police station, and the cops basically implied that it was our fault because we went out drinking. They also told us, when we asked why there aren't more patrol cars out on Mischief Night, that it's because of budget cuts.

My answer to that question is A LOT of things!

I HATE HATE when people speed down Manila Ave.

Just to piss fast driving people off, I purposely cross the street with my dog REALLY SLOW and then they give me the finger, or curse at me.....and I just smile and wave.

But, for real.....this should definitely be an issue the cops address because there are kids everywhere (little league)

Why would I make that up? That's a weird question. The bartender at Liberty House told me yesterday, when I asked him if he knew what the big tent was for.

Biggest waste of 100 million dollars EVER! He should have donated that money to Cancer research. Even with that money, Newark schools are not going to improve. And I would bet 100 million dollars on that!

The tent is for American Idol auditions. The park is going to be closed, I heard, while these auditions are going on. Liberty House is doing all the catering for the event, so the restaurant will be closed as well.

Just to keep it real --- the JCPD had the critical help of the the NJ State Police and the US Marshal Service in making those arrests possible.

Left only to the JCPD's own resources and abilities, who knows if the arrests would have been made.

well, I would think they should use other resources to help them solve the crime. I am sure those organizations have technology that the JCPD doesn't.

I went to Hamilton Inn tonight, and I have to say that I love it! Prices are reasonable, food was GREAT, decor is beautiful, and I enjoyed the atmosphere. Very different than any other bar/restaurant in JC, because it is lively, yet not divey...lol! Good Luck to them!

Re: Lafayette Park: JC police shoot and kill pit bull after dog attacks child
#26

As a pitbull owner, I do believe that the cops did what was necessary to save the child. However, I DO believe that this again, was the owner's fault. All pet owners are responsible for their dogs, just like parents are responsible for their children. I make sure my pitbull is on her leash all times, and that I have the leash securely wrapped around my wrist and in my hand.

A poodle could also escape and bite a child, however this breed of dog doesn't have the strength to cause the harm that a pitbull does.

To answer the question of one of the posters, I love my dog more than anything. I trust her completely around myslelf, my husband, neices who are toddlers, anyone who enters my home, and people who approach her in a friendly manner to pet her on the street. However, I would never let my dog roam free, or give her the opportunity to escape from a leash. I don't think ANY dog should have that opportunity. And if something like that does happen, it is the owner's fault.

Unless, you are a teacher this is a very hard concept to understand. I don't agree that high test scores necessarily mean the teacher is a good one. It depends on the student population. The way that testing scores are analyzed under NCLB makes absolutely no sense. Also, it is not fair to special ed. or bilingual teachers. Their students do not have the abilities to pass the standardized tests.

Another issue, is special teachers. How would art or music teahers be rated?
