KIOSK BADGERING? Hate it! Just as much as the idiots who hand out crap as you exit the grove path station as I come home from a hard day of work. One day the guy accidentally dropped his stack of BADGERING handouts at grove and I "accidentally" stepped on the pile on the ground. Although it's true that at least they are earning money, I don't know if I'd call it a living but it would be worse if they were just homeless and doing nothing but hanging out begging for drug and alcohol money.

A long time ago there was a retail chain called the Merry Go Round. I would occasionally shop at the Willowbrook Mall where their sales people would literally try to physically pull people into their store as they passed by.

While I agree that people stopping you to ask, "Can I ask you a question?" is annoying, it's easy to just ignore or quickly say no and keep walking.

the skin care people got me at livingston mall last year (another simon mall.) now when i see them at newport i just tell them their product sells for $12 on ebay, and their "today only" sale will get them nowhere with me. it works wonders. beware of the "dead sea salt" stands...

Some of you on the other hand, are just pathetic. You bitch and whine about every little thing. And a real class act degrading those legit massage girls as hookers.

90% of those massage girls probably were hookers when they were decent looking. Be realistic.

As far as the Israeli skin care stuff, they used to have two very hot girls approaching men. I suspect they had much too low of a success rate because most of us just focused on the girl and not the product. A sales job that involves approaching many potential customers with a ridiculous product is a common Mossad training exercise.

I've stopped giving even the smallest of courtesy to the harassment. I have to walk by it at least twice every day - although many days, I alter my route to avoid them.

I've never been in any other mall where people harass you on the street trying to sell you things. It's not as bad as the children on Erie street begging for money, nor as bad as the teenagers near the back mall entrance trying to intimidate people into buying overpriced candy. But it's bad enough to make life materially less pleasant.

I'm getting really tired of having to gauge my path through Jersey City based on whether I will be harassed by bums, road rage psychos, sales people at kiosks.

I just think that it coveys a poor image of the mall enviroment when they allow for these Kiosk vendors to badger the clientel.

I have visited Morocan Sooks and the stall vendors there don't stoop to that level.

Theres no need for this approach!

Unfortunately gorgeous females generally do not work at mall kiosks.

I had some skin care dude hijack my trip through the Menlo Park Mall with that "can I ask you a question" business. I wasn't really paying attention so I thought he needed directions or something, and he started in trying to sell me all this stuff for my face.

At the time I had pretty bad acne (thank god for Accutane,) so I just pretended to be horribly offended, gasped "ARE YOU CALLING ME UGLY?" and hightailed it.

You can't reason with these people, might as well have a little fun, right?

I too hate the people at the skin care kiosk as well. Though when they try and reel me in I tell them I don't want the bullshit and they look at me with a big WTF? face. I just keep on walking.

Who can actually relax during these massages? There are dozens of people walking around you yammering etc. I always expect some mall "thug" to punch one of the customers in the face through the little hole in the head-rest. Would be kind of funny in a demented way.

Would make a good avatar.

Ugh. They are indeed annoying. When they approach I just say, loudly, "NO!" Even before they get a full sentence out. Like you're repremanding a dog or a toddler.

Annoying face cream guy: Excu...
Me: NO!!!!
Annoying face cream guy (disgusted): Ok, gawd!

And there's just something very dirty about the massage ladies. I mean I know they use the piece of paper to keep your face off of the dirty, wripped face donut, but still... Ick!

Great, Bill - cue up anti-Asian, xenophobic comment from Heights in 3...2...1...

Actually, I thought the annoying, aggressive approach was a phenomenon unique to Newport Mall kiosk vendors - until this weekend. I was at Freehold Mall on Sunday, and some guy at a skincare products kiosk actually approached me, blocked my path and said "Can I ask you a question?" I just brusquely said "no," and walked around him, but I was tempted to ask if he also works Newport Mall. This had NEVER happened to me before at any mall other than Newport. My mother, who was with me, thinks as people pull back on spending, these kiosk vendors are gonna get much more aggressive (read: desperate).

When the skin care people ask "can i ask you a question?", I usually scowl and say the classic line "You just did". They don't know what to do after that.

Also the men and women at that skin care kiosk right before them that also that chirp " Excuse me can I ask you a question?" - every day, day in and day out. When my partner and I walk past them he always says don't look into their eyes! - even that does not work. !

I hate those skin care people. One day I finally lost it and yelled at the woman. Now they recognize me and turn away every time I walk by. Hilarious.

I particularly dislike those people at the skin care kiosk. You can never walk by without them getting into your face.

I am afraid that one day I will just go beserk and throttle them.
