Just got back from Torico's...the new shop looks great and they are giving away free single scoop cones all day today. Don't worry about the line, they are moving people through there very quickly.

Happy Friday!

I don't know about any of you, but I'm not going to Torico's unless they let me carry out my ice cream in a plastic bag.

Thank all that is merciful and good in the universe (not to mention the JC planning dept), there's just one week left until Torico's is back. Woohoo! (Relatedly, does anyone know when the next bootcamp starts?)

We're a joke when it comes to this stuff, I spoke this week to a architectural supplier in Copiague LI and he's heard stories about JC Buildings and they're wayward ways.

Hoping this is a huge part of Fulop's platform. A key to our city's economy is the ability to open small businesses quickly. Yes, there are rules and regs, but the job of our city inspectors should be to help people comply with them expeditiously, rather than playing "gotcha!" This Lucy and the football thing has got to stop.

I agree with those speculating that the backwards corruption of this city may be slowly killing Torico's. (Please let us all be wrong!) Which is sad, but not surprising. Although, from looking at Healy, you'd think he'd be pro-ice cream...

You are describing the symptoms of a corrupt administration. Nothing will change until Healy is gone, and it still won't change if he's replaced with anyone else also part of the institution, like Bolden-Cunningham or any of the other perpetual candidates.

They've been a mainstay of this neighborhood for over 40 years. You'd think that would give them some sway with the corrupt buildings dept. Or maybe it gave them more time to make an enemy?

This is pure speculation. I have zero inside info. It just seems like, every time they're about to open, something new pops up, and up goes the scaffolding to re-do the cornice, here come the painters to re-do trim, out come the jackhammers to rip up a perfectly good sidewalk, etc.

Somebody in the buildings dept clearly didn't get a big enough envelope.

Toricos is now in the most lovely building in town, and brightens up the entire block. It's a real boon to the community, yet it remains closed.

How anyone would willingly choose to do business in this backwater town is beyond me.

I have a bad feeling as well and it is such a shame. Myself and my gf loved to walk there at night in the summer to pick up some ice cream cones then go for a walk in the neighborhood. I really really hope they open this summer. Does anyone have any info?

Does anybody else have a really bad feeling about Torico's? 2 summers in a row without it is...really sad.

Today they were tearing up the sidewalk and some of the street around Torico's. Looks like yet another detour in the road.

Would be nice if there was more then one ice cream shop along Newark Ave. or just off Newark Ave. as the case may be!

I passed by on my way to work this morning (I make a point of passing by every morning to check on their progress) and they were preparing for what looked like some serious work: jackhammers and big buckets of something or other. There were orange traffic cones out on the sidewalk. Orange cones -- that means it's for real!

I'm cautiously optimistic. And ravenously hungry. We love you Torico's!

No they're not open today. I walked by this afternoon. Someone had written on the window (with their finger on the dusty and dirty glass) something along the lines of "are you opening soon? we miss you!" There was no response to that message.

Just checking in to see if they opened today? I think they used to open on Easter, back when they used to open... So, I was kind of hopeful that maybe today was the day. Anyone happen to walk by?

What details do you have, what hoops did your friend have to jump through ? Did the city just forget to give him his paperwork or did he forget to fill some of it out ? What does it take to get the ball rolling around here ? There must be an A to Z formular/
