Boy, 11, Killed in Jersey City Park
The body of an 11-year-old boy who had been stabbed repeatedly and clubbed on the head was found early Sunday behind a clump of bushes in Pershing Field, a park in Jersey City.

An autopsy conducted yesterday established stab wounds of the abdomen as the cause of death, according to the police, who said they had ?a couple of good leads? as to who had committed the crime.

The victim was Harold Kopf, who lived near the park, which on the north side of the Hudson County city. Detectives said they believed the boy had been killed not long before his body was discovered by a resident who was walking his dog at about 7 A.M.

Detective Vincent Bellucci of the Jersey City Police said he did not know why the boy had gone to the park or whether there was a single killer or a group of assailants. As of last night, the murder weapon had not been recovered.

Detective Bellucci said the victim was dressed in a polo shirt, pants, gym shorts, socks and sneakers. His body was found near some steps leading to tennis courts in Pershing Field, in the Jersey City Heights section.

The police said that young Kopf had a twin brother, Richard, and was the son of Edward and Gloria Kopf.

To speed the investigation, the Police Director of Jersey City, Michael Borseso, called in off?duty detectives on overtime.

I had a neighbor who, after dark, would casually drop his unwanted JC Reporter at our curbside instead of his own. The funny thing is, other than that he was a good neighbor. Stuff like this happens all the time & the recycling/trash people should already be perfectly aware of it.

Parkman, I'm with you. I have an 82 year old friend who, with his wife, bought a home in 1968, raised their kids & became a beloved neighbor to many. The house never had a major updating, it was their home with no thought to it becoming a goldmine. He doesn't want to sell ... it's his home, his neighborhood. A home is an emotional thing, sentimental, not always a money-maker as some see it. I realize that this doesn't mesh with today's reality but I just wanted to throw in my two cents.

I started riding the PATH in 1982 & back then they were so superior to the NYC subways. Clean, on time, few signal/breakdown problems, & no weekend Journal Square via Hoboken to 33rd Street. It is scary to me now how downhill the PATH has gone. No wonder residents don't want to depend on public transportation. With all those new towers being built in Journal Square in addition to all the new ones downtown, the workday commute has & will become even more of a nightmare.

OMG ... if the celebration is held at Exchange Place, the running Light Rail would be really dangerous in the crowd crush!

I have not received my sample ballot in the mail yet ? wondering if anyone else has.

Also, where can I find a complete sample ballot on-line? Been looking but apparently not in the right place. Thanks.

Anyone have any inside info on when PATH will be running between Journal Square & Newark again? 'Until further notice' doesn't even give a hint. Well, unless the answer is never.

What got me tonight (PATH suspended between Newark & Journal Square due to another signal failure) was that I waited on the train in Newark for over an hour & then we were all finally told to get off the train, that it was out of service. So, I went downstairs & got an Uber cab. I check my e-mail in the car & ?. train service had just resumed ? 10 minutes after they made us all get off the train.

This may have already been addressed but ? what is that gigantic square box built smack dab in the middle of the Grove PATH Station mezzanine? Is it staying? It takes up so much space that people are two-stepping & bouncing off each other coming & going during rush hour.

My take on this is that someone wanted to get rid of the guitar & put it out on trash night hoping that someone would take it. I know I've done that before & 90 percent of the time the item has been taken.

I already knew that my NJ Transit Rail monthly pass also covered two bus zones (found that out after Sandy when PATH wasn't running), but after reading this thread, checked out NJ Transit's website & it also can be used on the Light Rail ? who knew!!

Thanks for the head's up!
