As noted: 100 Caven is not in the "middle" of LSP. It's not even in the park. It's adjacent to it on the south end.

No one has approved a 90 story casino at 100 Caven.

The PDF you linked to is from March 2015; the word "casino" is nowhere to be found in that document. The story you linked to is also 6 months old.

Absolutely NOTHING in the recent DEP LSP recommendations suggested putting a casino, let alone tower, in LSP itself. (Fulop blasted that report for being too aggressive in its development recommendations, btw.) The most ambitious recommendation was to put a low-rise hotel on top of, or replacing, the deteriorating train yard.

Are we missing something? Is there actually anything factual to your hysterics?

While I'm certainly not in favor of this proposal, I'm not sure where you are getting "Middle" of Liberty State Park from. The links you posted indicate the same undeveloped area south of the park that has been repeatedly discussed as the site for such a project.

Liberty North's plan as revised (I think in 2010) was bad enough. How putting a bunch of ugly towers echoing Newport in the middle of 600 acres of parkland is good urban planning would be nice to know. To refresh yourself on the plan see:

http://www.cityofjerseycity.com/uploa ... rbor%20Amd15%20031115.pdf

This must have been yet another pay off to Fireman for something. The sweetheart deal that Barry and Fireman got for the golf course wasn't enough. (Does anyone know what the golf course pays in real estate taxes. It would be a project to compute because it is broken up into a hundred or so different parcels.

Yes, the amendments allow for a 53 story building which is a terrible, terrible idea. But has the plan been further amended to allow 90 stories? This suggests yes.
http://newyorkyimby.com/2015/06/90-st ... int-road-jersey-city.html

When did this happen? How was there no outcry. Now there appears to be a deal in the works for a land use atrocity to be compounded by allowing casino gambling in it.

This seems like stuff that should only happen in Communist China. There should be a concerted effort to:
1. Revise the Liberty North plan to allow only low rise buildings. Ideally, a residential neighborhood like Paulus Hook without the towers would go there.
2. Stop gambling from coming into Jersey City. It is a cancer in a society. Look at Atlantic City.
3. Prevent any change in the status of Liberty State Park.
4. Make sure that Fireman is paying the real estate tax that such a prominent piece of property should generate.

The HCDO and Fulop appear to be in on this. Kopco, legislative candidate last November, tried to make an issue of it but it got no where. This is something that should galvanize not only those of us who live here, but the entire state and nation since Liberty State park is the most visited state park in NJ and is a national treasure.

How can this be done?

Why not? You will have prostitution regardless, but if it's legalized, you wipe out the organized crime.

Problem is those guys "wet the beak" of the pols. Maybe it isn't so bad for a city if they have other things going, but AC doesn't. I guess no one has expectations of the Indian casinos other than lining the pockets of the investors and the tiny "tribes".

Christie declares north Jersey casino deal; voters could decide in November

By Brent Johnson | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com
January 11, 2016 at 5:54 PM

TRENTON — Gov. Chris Christie announced Monday that the leaders of the state Legislature have ended their feud and struck a deal on a proposal to ask New Jersey voters to expand casino gambling to the northern part of the state.

State Senate President Stephen Sweeney (D-Gloucester) and state Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto (D-Hudson) had spent weeks pushing rival plans for a referendum asking voters to amend the state constitution to approve two casinos in north Jersey.

But on Monday, Christie announced that he and the lawmakers got together to reach a compromise that will allow the question to be placed on the ballot in November, when more voters will be at the polls because it's a presidential election year.

"Nobody here is getting exactly what they wanted or what they asked for," the Republican governor and presidential candidate said during a news conference outside his office at the Statehouse. "The most important thing in my view was to give voters the opportunity."

Petition calls for Fulop to reject Jersey City casino

By Terrence T. McDonald | The Jersey Journal
January 11, 2016 at 4:24 PM

An online petition is seeking supporters to send a message to Mayor Steve Fulop: reject plans for a casino in Jersey City.

Fulop backs expanding casino gambling outside South Jersey. There is already a proposal to bring a casino to just outside Liberty State Park.

"Research has shown that casinos have a negative impact on local property values and derive a disproportionate amount of revenue from vulnerable, often elderly, problem gamblers," the petition reads. "Our elected officials should embrace sustainable, socially responsible economic development and unambiguously reject any plan to build a casino in our city."

So if I've got this straight, AC has turned decades of a NJ gambling monopoly, much of that with no eastern competition, into absolutely nothing, sort of like your typical kleptocratic Petrostan. Therefore any gambling elsewhere in the state has to tithe 50% of income to AC. WTF? I'm against "Big Gambling", but if it's going to happen, this is simply silly, no? Fulop has a point.

Fulop Wants to Debate Sweeney on Casinos Question

Embroiled in a flap over the provisions of two competing bills that would govern the wording of a proposed northern casino ballot question, with a bill backed by Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop on one side and a second bill supported by Senate President Steve Sweeney (D-3) on the other, Fulop today challenged Sweeney to a public television debate.

Fulop dropped the gauntlet amid an ongoing backroom war between the two 2017 gubernatorial prospects, one from the north and the other from the south, the casinos question conceivably mushroom clouding now into a cobra-wild mongoose public brawl. Apparently seeking an end to the ongoing sniping and crisscrossing op-ed pieces, the mayor insisted that he wants to have it out in one event hosted by Michael Aron of NJTV.

Actually, someone mentioned it earlier, which is why I discussed it. But I'm good with adding it to a bill (any bill, really). But hey, illegal prostitution is still work. Beats people getting money for nothing.

Anyway, don't let the door slam your hysterical a$$ on the way out.

I don't support casinos anywhere. However, your claim is not correct.

There are lots of casino and gaming areas that don't attract crime. Crime rates did not go up after Dover Downs, Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun opened. These days, casinos are opening in affluent suburban neighborhoods, and don't hollow them out.

Atlantic City was already in the grips of crime and drugs when the casinos were first built. The casinos did not solve the problems, but it also didn't create most of them. Nor is it likely that a strip joint and heroin shooting alley will open at Port Liberty if a casino is built there.

Every casino I have ever visited is windowless by design except for the REVEL which is out of business. So why not put this in East Orange, Newark, Paterson instead of turning Jersey City into a ghetto?

Holy moly. Even by JCList standards, that's a stunningly blatant NIMBY attitude.

"Casinos make crime worse, so let's dump one in a community that already has problems."

Why not ship a bunch of toxic waste into East Orange while you're at it?

I understand being somewhat NIMBY. But plenty of Jersey City is a craphole as well (looking at you, Greenville and B-L). Casinos and prostitution would do nothing to make that place any worse than what it is, and might even provide some jobs for that area.

why not legalize prostitution and tax it. register the sex workers and have them get regular check-ups, benefits, etc...neither nevada nor the holland have fallen off the earth because of legalized prostitution. it is alos legal in brazil and france.

And not like it doesn't happen anyway. The question is whether we want them ability to intelligently regulate and collect tax revenue. So for both gambling and prostitution, it seems like an "of course you legalize, regulate and tax it" solution.

Mayors of state's 3 largest cities voice support for Prieto's casino plan

By Patrick Villanova | The Jersey Journal
on January 05, 2016 at 9:21 AM, updated January 05, 2016 at 9:22 AM

The mayors of the three largest cities in New Jersey are throwing their support behind Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto's plan to bring casino gaming to north Jersey.

In a joint statement issued yesterday, mayors Ras Baraka, Steve Fulop and Joey Torres -- representing Newark, Jersey City and Paterson, respectively -- called for north Jersey residents to support Prieto's Assembly bill and raised concerns over Senate President Stephen Sweeney's plan, which would allocate what they view to be an inordinate amount north Jersey casino revenue to Atlantic City.

"Senate President Sweeney's bill takes half of the money raised by potential North Jersey casinos and sends it to one South Jersey municipality, while the other 564 municipalities in New Jersey split the remaining revenue," the three mayors said in the statement.
