Hopscotch has a $20 (i believe) bottomless bloody, mimosa, and maybe screwdriver/greyhound. Worth checkign out if you want to avoid a crowd.

If you do 9C, try their "Man-mosa" which ads vodka to the sparkling wine/oj mix. A few of those will get you right.

Nope! Both times I ate there were well before the outside seating showed up. I was super excited for them to open. I mean, i don't even have to leave the building to go there, so in winter months how convenient is that. But it's still not worth it! The food is just okay to me, and the service is awful. I would rather brave the cold and snow than eat there, which is still very unfortunate. I wish it was better. Also, in my day to day living in the building I have no interaction with that business so it's not just because I live in the building. My complaint about the outside seating was because people could not get around at that corner. I had to stop to let people pass as a single person. I thought about all the people that have to get through there with strollers or wheelchairs and I was very upset about that. But I've also complained at the school across the street for people parking in the crosswalks to pick up their kids. It's a dangerous corner all around and I am always worried that people are going to get hurt at it. If two people tried to walk through the way the seating was one person would get pushed into the street and I didn't want to see that happen.

9C does an excellent brunch. Don't recall the pricing on drinks - definitely not $1, but good stuff.

Also Hamilton Inn has $4 brunch cocktails with no food requirement .... not as cheap as $1 but still below average (and now I have apparently come out as a sunday drunk)

I heard that Raval is doing $1 brunch cocktails on sundays... not exactly bottomless but I can't imagine having more than say 5 which is still less than the cost of one drink in most places. Their menu online seems to imply you need to get the $35 brunch special with that but when I called this weekend and specifically asked that they said as long as you ordered food but I can't be 100% about it since we got lazy and never made it out

I like most of the places mentioned, with Skinners Loft scratching the itch for traditional items. I love the little assortment of biscuits and muffins they put on the table, and I prefer their Bloody Mary to most other places.

park & 6

I went over the weekend, $20 brunch special - includes entree & 2 brunch cocktails. i had the spinach and egg and it was phenomenal. and 2 greyhounds which were delightful for such a hot summer day. they've definitely stepped up their game in the new location.

I know, right. When I want brunch, I go to this underground warehouse in Bayonne. Ask for Little Tony, and when he shows up, sock him in the gut as hard as you can to prove that you're real enough for his not-at-all-phony Eggs Benedict. If you want a Mimosa with your egg white frittata, you're going to have to arm-wrestle Ivan for the privilege - you probably won't win, but as long as you give a good effort, he'll be glad to mix up some of his street Champagne and orange juice for you authentically.

In all seriousness, though, I just had a really good brunch at Union Republic. Other than being slightly out-of-the-way, not sure why the place isn't more crowded.

As for Union republic, I live in this building and we were super excited for them to go in but the two times I've gone it was nothing but problems. One of the times was brunch on a Sunday morning at 11 am. They ran out of orange juice and French toast (one of the only vegetarian options they have). The other time was at night and they were super rude about serving drinks. It just has never been worth the trouble and I live there! I think there are much better places to go for brunch. Unfortunately.

jcdevil is probably overweight and a sloppy mess, as most Devils fans are, he lives in the PAD (hows that working out for you?) and thinks UR is out of the way.

The term brunch was coined in the late 1800s.

Brunch is best in JC bc of all of the BYOB spots. So my favorites are:

Kitchen @ Grove Station

Sam AM

Beechwood Cafe

Madame Claude

Isn't brunch an inherently yuppy concept?

Therefore any list of brunch spots will naturally contain only "yuppy places".

Robin.

IGreg. While there are a lot of changes happening and places opening that I would consider to detract from the character of JC, most of the brunch spots listed here are owned independently by people who both live and work in the neighborhood, not investment groups. I would not call them fake. Sure yuppies go there. But that's a lot of who lives here.

Madam Claude for eggs benedict.

Roman Nose for their spin on the egg sammie

Gia Gelato for French Toast all day, any day.

Skinners on Sunday for the bread bowl.
Hamilton Inn is nice, I don't like dinner but brunch is solid. Same for Light horse.
Bright side has a ridiculous brunch burger.
Sam I Am, best breakfast in JC.
