They need to have six feet between the light pole/meters and their planters.

I took pictures of it yesterday. The point is not about how it compares to other outdoor seating. The point is that this is a very busy area and they have certainly taken it upon themselves to leave the most minimal walking space possible for people to walk through. There is a school across the street and people walk with their children and strollers through there constantly. It's not a safe corner to begin with but this adds to that.

I added a photo to my blog. To be honest, I don't see much of a difference between UR's outdoor seating and the amount of sidewalk space that Roman Nose or Madame Claude take up.

At least the outside seating slows the crazy idiots who bike on the sidewalk.

denised, and anyone else who might be interested, you can search the Municipal Ordinances easily to find this kind of information. Type ?Jersey City ordinances? into your favorite search engine and follow the link to ?municode?. Here it is: https://www.municode.com/library/nj/je ... /codes/code_of_ordinances. Municode has an OK search function that will bring up all the ordinances containing the search term, highlighted in yellow. It can be tedious going through the individual ordinances....

? 296-80. - Operation of a Sidewalk Caf?; Projection into sidewalks. [Amended 7-20-2011 by Ord. No. 11-076]
B. No sidewalk caf? shall be permitted to project into a sidewalk more than half the width of said sidewalk, but only to a maximum of ten (10) feet. In no case shall it extend so far as to leave less than six (6) feet for pedestrian traffic. You can try your luck with RRC, or you can call the Division of Commerce at (201) 547-5139. Paul O'Grady is very helpful. While you're on the phone, put in a complaint against Abbey's for me. Thanks!
