oh, wait a tick.. i can't just take him in during an afternoon and let them groom him with me present?
does anyone know of a place (i'm willing to pay extra for it!!!) that i can come with him and not have to leave him alone? i think i can not leave him alone again. bad experience. and someone cutting off part of his ear is not acceptable. (i won't be going to that place you mentioned). I don't mind paying more, I just would like an idea of what it will cost, and I'm certainly willing to pay more as long as he is well taken care of i'm definitely considering the lion cut. thank you for your suggestions!!

Kitty grooming? |

I have a long-haired kitten. He's awesome, but he sheds like mad. I comb his fur two or three times a day, and am constantly sweeping up cat fur and vaccuuming the apartment. I am wondering if there is a cat groomer in JC? Does anyone have experience dealing with long haired kitties in the summer time? Should I take him to get him groomed and what does that entail exactly? And does anyone know what the cost is like?
Thanks.

Trade Joe's, as much as I love it, will only increase my already under-market rent. I'm content with Tendershoot. Trader Joe's can stay in Manhattan as far as I'm concerned and keep my rent cheap.

You guys, I need prices! Anyone have any experience and can give me a rough idea of what they've been charged in the past?
I have nothing to start from except LHS, which i already know the prices for because they are published on the website. Thanks.

Jersey City Vet Costs |

Can someone please be straight with me about vet costs in Jersey City?
I've taken my cats to downtown vet for checkups and they are charging me $68/cat for the visit alone. I need to get them booster shots now too. What is the cost at Downtown vet for booster (they won't give me a price over the phone)? Does anyone have experience? What about other vets? I'm not sold on downtown vet, it's just close by. Anyone have experience at other places? Can you please tell me prices? I need to compare costs, but no one publishes their prices nor will they disclose over the phone. I know the clinic at Liberty Humane is $20 for most of their shots and they don't charge a visit fee, so that's definitely the most economical. I'd just like to avoid that wait time and the trauma it'll cause the kitties sitting in their crates for an hour or two.

someone tell a story then of the damage that letting a tenant who had a cat caused their property. I'd really like to know how irresponsible others can be.
![]() i'm sure it'll have to do with litterbox problems. ![]()

so sad! i understand allergies. i too am mildly allergic, but i love these little guys. i found after i vacuum the woodwork and wash the floors, i'm okay. as long as i keep up with it once a week and do my laundry one a week, i hardly notice them at all. once my skin gets itchy, i know i have work to do.
i've found so many great apartments the last few weeks but they all say no pets. sad. i wish my potential landlord would meet my cats first and see how nice they are before eliminating them from the apartment.

I'm still on the apartment hunt and now I'm encountering another problem: No pets! Wahhh! :( I have two cats who are well-trained and extremely sweet. Why does every landlord in JC hate pets?
I guess I can see it if they're worried the dander from the cat's fur might linger in the apartment after I've left, but how damaging could that be? A vacuum and murphy's oil soap would more or less eliminate that problem. What else could there be? I'm looking at all hardwood floors, so there's no property they could damage, and they are fully litterbox trained! Why oh why do landlords so despise animals. If only every household had a furry creature roaming about and understood how harmless these little guys can be. ![]()

we always get mail that isn't ours. ALWAYS. like every day.
our mail box has been labeled with the tenants for over a year. we put "return to sender" or "not at this address" on every one of them and put them back in the box, and they sit there.... for ever. mailman never takes them back. isn't it more work to put the wrong mail in the mailbox? he knows who is at the address and that we don't want to hang on to mail that isn't ours...

Re: Broker's fee |

well, since i'm looking to live on my own and have a tippy top budget of 1300, these are my options so far.
hence, i still haven't moved (and it's not looking good for me anytime in the near future). you know what, all of your arguments might be valid, the idea of making a broker work for you, using the broker to do all of the work and negotiation which is indeed time consuming, tedious, etc. UP UNTIL NOW i've never had trouble finding a place without the help of a broker (and i've moved twice in five years). the fact is, almost every single place i've found on craigslist (one bedroom UNDER $2,000... somehow this is difficult right now) is advertised through a broker and requiring a broker's fee lately. i'm sorry, but that's bs. if a tenant comes through craigslist, which the landlord can AS EASILY advertise on their own as a broker, then why should they pay a fee? if the broker does not do the work for the tenant, but rather for the landlord, then the landlord should most definitely pay the broker, NOT the tenant. IMO and one other thing, broker's fee. a month's rent. and that's acceptable. they charge it, people are paying it. Tuna sandwich? 14 dollars. We think that's fair...

Broker's fee |

Why in the world should anyone pay a broker's fee to move into a new apartment?
if an apartment is 450 square feet, half a mile from transportation, a ground level, and $1350, not rent controlled, WHY would anyone pay a broker's fee for it? It's throwing away $1350. I can understand a reason for a broker's fee in two instances. 1. the rent is a serious deal 2. it's rent controlled but, it's rare to find either one of these scenarios. i've been apartment hunting for months and it never happens. the rents are almost always ridiculous and the properties are never rent controlled. so i'm being asked to pay an absurd amount in rent and who knows how much i'll be asked to pay next year, and the broker and landlord think charging me a month's rent JUST TO MOVE IN is completely reasonable. Brokers, explain how you justify that fee. I understand a broker needs to make money, but, landlords, WHY aren't you paying it? The renter's fee is RENT.

I saw a dude trying to steal a bike last night on grove at newark |

It was around 10:30PM, plenty of people walking about and I was wandering home with my boyfriend. We have both had bikes stolen before, and have fantasized about what we would do if we had caught the jerk who stole it. WELL! we both saw the dude, sitting on the ground shamelessly with a flimsy piece of cardboard to cover up his wirecutters.
We both stood over him for a good 30 seconds in silence as we assessed what was happening. Then I said "this dude is stealing that bike." As if the guy wasn't sitting two feet away, and my boyfriend said to the guy, "hey man don't steal that bike." The guy was paranoid and IM SURE stole the bike anyway. He spoke no English. We walked away and my boyfriend kept yelling at him. He got up, started yelling back in Spanish and then left. He was tiny, small man. Maybe 5'6", skinny very very skinny, bald, probably mid to late 40s and definitely Latino. He spoke no English. He kept yelling "Papi!" at my boyfriend. If your bike got stolen on grove last night, this was probably the guy. If you still use a wire cable to keep you bike locked, dear god, upgrade!!!! Kryptonite U-lock.
