#1 - Presentation didn't bother me at all - from a functional standpoint the bags hold the liquid sauce nicely and allow for easy dipping. Aesthetically, I'm used to the casual peel and eat seafood style of dining, whether it's dumped out on craft paper, on a red plastic tray, in a plastic basket, or in a bag. It's super casual, no frills, all about the quality of the food. Reminds me of the crab shacks on the Chesapeake, the lobster shacks off the beaten path in Maine, and those tiny clam shacks all along the NE coast. I read the plastic bags as some kind of modern urban solution to the presentation problem for messy, finger licking seafood delights.

#2 - I completely agree. We ordered 4 lbs of food and you couldn't toss a few ears of corn and potatoes our way? Would have been fun to dip them in the sauce. Although we were plenty stuffed without them.

Of course they are not cooking sous vide at BECLAWS, but he made a side comment (the one I quoted) indicating he would be put off or concerned by food being cooked in plastic, and I am just pointing out that this is becoming more common.

They're referring to the way the food is served at the table (in large plastic bags), not the cooking style, which given the volume of food they produce, I cannot imagine is sous vide

Another vote for the house sauce - it was really good... though make sure you and your SO both eat it or else bring a toothbrush cause its a little kickin!

we had 1 lb shrimp and 2 lb clams in the house sauce - really good. Clams tasted great but they were really broken. Not sure if that is just about how they cook them or what but more than half were shattered and out of the shell. The shrimp were "real" full head on shrimp so if you aren't into that kind of thing beware! (they were great though it did take a few minutes to get into the rhythm of shelling them since they are hot and greasy and a little hard to grip)

the only eh was the king crab.... it was totally fine but for the price (almost triple the other items) I think I would skip it next time and get more shrimp or clams instead

I picked up a pound of shrimp, a pound of snow crab, a lobster roll and an order of crab fries for my fiance and myself to eat at home. The seafood was all excellent, the house sauce in the spicy version had a nice flavorful kick, and the order was being bagged right as I got there.

It was a steal at the price, and we had a few leftover shrimp that I had with a salad the next day. It went very well with a nice chilled bottle of sauvignon blank I picked up earlier that day.

It's a great addition to the area, and we can't wait to go eat there.

We went for dinner as a group of three and pigged out. We ordered: dozen oysters, pound of shrimp, pound of crawfish, pound of clams, and a pound of king crab. EVERYTHING was delicious, but especially the clams and king crab. And I could have eaten the Just Beclaws sauce out of the bag at the end - garlicy, buttery, spicy goodness.

I grew up eating crabs and lobsters so the mess was no big deal for me. They provide a bib (i wore it) and gloves (I did not wear them, I like to tear seafood apart with my bare hands). They have a big basin sink by the restrooms to wash up afterwards.

Next time we're trying the blue crab, snow crab, maybe a lobster, and more of those clams.

Went to Just Beclaws for dinner with my wife this weekend and can't wait to go back, probably much sooner than later. Here are my key takeaways:

1. it's really casual and you will get messy, so dress accordingly.
2. the seafood was all really fresh and the beclaws special sauce was delicious.
3. service was a little spotty (probably due to them being so new) but the owner/his kids were on top of everything so hopefully that smooths out over the next month.
4. It's BYOB, but they plan on getting a license soon
5. no reservations, but we lucked out with open seating at the bar so we didn't have to wait.

Overall I highly recommend it - great addition to the neighborhood and not another asian fusion/pizza/burger spot.

And BYOU(tensils). We had to ask twice to get the shellfish cracker. The first time around our waiter brought out a pair of forks. Umm, OK. Its probably less of an hassle to just do takeout.

Traditionally you can say lunch is till 3pm and dinner starting at 5pm. Without alcohol to promote a happy hour it does seem odd.

BYOB and awesome messy fun! Place is great...got the crawfish, Cajun fries an crab ball...all awesome and good family friendly environment. Servers are nice and management seems to be hovering around the place all night! Psyched to go back again!
