A life in art, that’s exactly what William La Rosa set out to do in his 30-year tenure as Director of the Hudson County Office of Cultural Affairs. Before retiring in September 2017, La Rosa facilitated programs that helped local visual and performing artists. He founded the Local Arts Program (LAP) grants that, over the years, provided thousands of dollars to local artists and arts organizations.

Filmmaker Delaney Buffett took a film crew to Florida to interview ‘mermaids’ swishing their tales in underwater ballets at the Weeki Wachee Springs mermaid theater for her documentary THE SPRING. This award-winning documentary short can be seen — along with four other shorts by women filmmakers — at Hudson County Community College’s first-ever Indie Film Festival on Thurs, Mar. 15, Thurs, Apr. 12, Tues, Apr. 17, and Sat, Apr. 28.

Mayor Steven M. Fulop and Public Safety Director James Shea announce today Jersey City’s new CCTV camera system is expanding with the instillation of 40 additional cameras in high crime areas. Phase II of the CCTV project will be completed in the new year, which includes extending fiber lines in accordance with plans to expand the system even further.

With just a week away, Nimbus Dance Works in Jersey City spends most of its time rehearsing choreography, preparing Sugarplum costumes and dusting off Christmas scenery as it prepares for its 8th annual production of JC Nutcracker. The show opens Tues, Dec. 12 at the Frank R. Conwell auditorium in Middle School No. 4 on Bright Street in Jersey City, and stars a cast of 125 – all Nimbus dancers and local Jersey City students.
