Agreed! I noticed a few other parents brought kids and it was just a great atmosphere last night. Lots of fun, the crowd was really into the game. And, of course, it was a great win. If nothing else, Team USA proved to be a very good defensive team, as Ghana really controlled most of the action and kept getting shots off.

Such a great time yesterday. Could have used some more USA fans that have been to games, but it was still fun.

Was at the Biergarten on Saturday and it was tons of fun. Probably the best time I've had there - great crowd for World Cup.

...just wish they figured out a better system for the food.

I'd love to see a "best of the rest" team at the World Cup. Here are some stars missing this year, and from prior years...

That Germany vs. Portugal game was GREAT. And, the USA got an early gift with Pepe being out for next's week USA/Portugal match.

So far, great matches, some surprisingly close, others surprising blowouts (Netherlands/Spain, anyone??). So far, I have watched 4 matches at the Zepp, and all had great turnout with good/lively crowds. Nothing rowdy, really, and people kept it fun but animated.

The only damper on the fun has been some of the bad officiating. Hopefully, that will improve.

I will be taking my 12-yo daughter to watch some of the games next week.

"Tres Chilitos," The Mexican restaurant on Central Ave., is showing the games and serving awesome, awesome food! Since it's a restaurant, it is definitely kid friendly. I'm fairly certain they will show ALL the games they can get their hands on.

In DTJC, LITM is showing the games again this year. Hopefully they'll be projecting them against their big wall in the back. I'm not sure how many games they'll show, but it's safe to expect a good crowd for today's U.S. game.

I'll second the "safe for kids" message. If you want a great atmosphere and you can only pick certain games, I'd make the USA game a top priority. I've a solid group coming out for it and these are people that have actually been to three different World Cups.

I believe that I'll be over at Hopsscotch today for some work and games in the afternoon...

This message board definitely needs a meet up at a bar one of these days.

With screen handle name tags.

I have my top 3 people I would like to meet in person...

Definitely bring the boys!! One of the things I love the most about the Zepp, in general, is that it is very family friendly. There are always parents with babies and/or kids. They get to run around, the parents get to relax and meet up with friends, and everyone (in my experience) is generally welcoming. It's like a true beer garden back in Germany in that entire families will congregate there.

The Spain/Netherlands game at 3 will likely get a good crowd. The Mexico game at noon will likely be more sparsely attended (too early in the day). I am sure the kids will enjoy it.

For the Zepp: would you say the environment is ok for young kids? I'm thinking about bringing my 2 boys there just to experience the "crowd atmosphere". We've never been to a stadium game yet, and definitely won't be going to the world cup. So I was thinking about a place where they can watch with a crowd, and just feel the "excitement" (probably not the whole game, but for 30-1 hr).

Turn out at the Zepp was really good. By the beginning of the match, about 150 people were there. By the end of the match, the place was packed and at least 250 to 300 people were spread across the two main areas with some sitting outside craning their necks to watch the projection screens.

I will be back there today to catch a game or two.

As an aside, I have to add that those Japanese refs were too lenient towards Brazil. That penalty foul that allowed Brazil to go up 2-1 was questionable.

Yes I'm such a frontrunner. That is why I'm a fan of Rutgers (duh) and the Jets. I don't really care about baseball, and for basketball it's the Nets and hockey the Rangers but I'm fairly passive about that.

Mostly I pick soccer based on places I like visiting and languages I speak. I don't feel the need to root for the US team because I'm American.

Today, I'll work (and stream the game). Tomorrow, maybe. Monday, definitely, I'll be there at noon. I've a pretty big group coming with me as well...

Also for Pebble-just drove by M Lounge, and they weren't open just before 2pm-if you thought about going before dinner time I'd call first.

Yeah, sadly, I walked all the way down and ended up over at Astor Bar instead for lunch. Oh well, another day.

imho, defense wins games, just like in previous WCs

Italy generally fields a defense second to none. But only Brazil and Spain have ever won outside of their continents. And the host nation has won 6 out of 19 World Cups. Brazil has such a huge home-field advantage - it's hard to see anyone beating them - except perhaps Argentina or Spain.

so.... aside from Zeppelin Hall, where else would be choice? I'm guessing HopScotch, White Star / Harbor Casino, and... er... is that it?

Maybe Surf City?
