Yea and no. Again, you aren't getting some dude in an orange or blue apron tinkering with your shit. They subcontract out through a local(ish) business, so it's not like your money is headed straight to North Carolina or Georgia.

Reviving this thread...

Can someone recommend an electrician in downtown JC area? Looking for someone to help us fix our building intercom, among few other things. Thanks in advance for any leads in this regard.

Yeah, this is almost certainly an HVAC issue. Call one of those guys. This is bread and butter for them.

Might suggest you being a little more specific about the "issue". Is it electrical supply service or the a/c unit itself? Different trades. Can't help if we don't know-

I can recommend RMS Contracting & Electric. Rick Balas is the owner. Does really good work and pretty affordable. You can call him at (848) 702-6200 or visit his site http://www.rmscontracting.org Tell him Troy sent you and he'll work with you on the price for the job if needed.

I called Cedric based on recommendation in here. He set an appointment with me and when I called to confirm, he didn't even remember me ever calling, even though he texted a confirmation. So he couldn't honor original time commitment, but said he would call me today, and never did. Now I'm at square one again.

We called Edgard at Avolar on Friday (based on jclist recommendations). They gave us an estimate over the phone. He showed up first thing on Saturday morning to install a chandelier. He was professional and friendly. The job was complete within an hour. We would definitely use him again!

Disappointed in Avolar - Edgard came by to see what we needed to be done, simple upgrade of a socket from 120-to-240v but has failed to contact me with an estimate. Emailed them asking about the estimate and scheduling - says they are too busy with "service" calls to even reply with an estimate.
Boo.

I used CapnJon's recommendation for an electrician and I have to say that I totally agree with his assessment of Avolar, Inc.
I had a small job where my under-counter light needed to be removed and a new fixture installed. Edgard showed up exactly when promised and charged exactly what I was quoted. He is a very smart and pleasant man. I wouldn't hesitate to employ him again.
Thanks again CapnJon!

I strongly recommend Cedric Pritchett, who is based in the Heights (201-744-8946).

He's responsive, professional, honest, and extremely fair when it comes to cost. Also a funny guy, which never hurts.

I've had him help with a few projects, and will definitely continue to look to him for electrical work.

Can anyone recommend a trustworthy, not too expensive electrician--just to fix a fickle switch? Tired of the lights turning off spontaneously.

Hello,

I need a hide the power chord of my wall mounted tv and have a cable mangement kit that does NOT involve direct wiring into the circuit.

Installation seems a simple DIY but I would rather have a professional do it because it includes connecting wires between the kit's two receptacles.

Tried reaching Avolar, but they admitted that they are booked for a few weeks with bigger jobs.

Any recommendation for an electrician who doesn't mind doing such small jobs?

Thanks!

I just had some electrical done by Avolar (Edgard). He was great and did a flawless and quick job running two new outlets for me.

http://www.avolar.us/

He's very professional, and explained lots of things to me to help me better understand the electrical set up for our house, something i was never comfortable with in the first place.

I will definitely use him for any future projects!

Thinking this may be a job for an electrician and looking for recommendations in general...
i want to connect my verizon FIOS, which comes into the house on the second floor to the third and first floors. I'm looking for an alternative to verizon drilling more holes into the exterior brick, such as an electrician or electrician-type who can strategically run the cable through the floor and ceiling.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a dependable/honest electrician from the area? We are just looking to have some minor things done around the house, nothing major!
Thanks Everyone!

I'd recommend Avolar (Edgard). He did a great job running two new monorail tracks each with a 250W power budget and dimmer switch. The job took 4-5 hours.

http://www.avolar.us/

He's very professional and reliable.

Over the years, I have used G-F Electric. Call Mark at (201) 332-4928.

He is very expensive but shows up promptly, gets the job done, and I have had zero problems afterwards with functionality or approvals.

I have used cheaper people in the past and paid the consequences.

We used a guy named Morgan and I think the company name is Kite & Key - excellent electrician and not over priced.
Office - 201-230-9196 - highly recommend.

Does anyone have a phone number for Avolar (http://www.avolar.us/)?

Called someone at Millennium Electric & Alarm in Hoboken who was extremely difficult to talk to and rude.

EDIT: I did just find this. It's 201-222-0148 for anyone else looking.

Just called, and they could not have been more helpful or friendly.
