Former JCRA chief gets $265K to step down
By Terrence T. McDonald/The Jersey Journal Bob Antonicello, the former Jersey City Redevelopment Agency chief pushed out by Mayor Steve Fulop, will receive $265,000 to step down early. City spokeswoman Jennifer Morrill confirmed the figure this afternoon to The Jersey Journal. Morrill said the payment includes ?compensation obligations,? as well as Antonicello?s ?accrued vacation and sick time.? Antonicello?s last day as the JCRA?s executive director was Friday. I understand your skepticism but it seems a bit premature at this point. Most people would disagree that the building is "stupid", including the Cordish Companies who are set to develop it. They also did the Powerhouse in Baltimore.

It's free because we live in a blighted city. Don't worry nobody in their right mind stays here long enough to go to "real" public school. I believe that it's mandatory to join a gang or pay one for protection in "real" JC schools. It's private or bye bye JC.

Don't forget that the push to get the Powerhouse redeveloped happened at the height of the real estate market so there was a lot of optimism at the time (and money) floating around.
The Port Authority is (or was until recently) the majority owner of the Powerhouse. In order for anything to be done on the building, the electrical substation needs to be moved from the western side of the building. This will cost real money and it also involves NJ Transit which has its electrical transformers for the light rail on the north side of the building. Now, the PA is focusing its efforts to fund the raising of the Bayonne bridge so who knows what will happen with it now. Btw, the stabilization costs were split between the city, JCRA and the Port Authority so they were not all shouldered by tax payers.

I just want to know what(and when) they are doing with the stupid jc powerhouse. It has been a complete waste of tax payer money, to board up the windows, then remove the smoke stacks, then found out the roof is collapsing, then to stabilize the roofs.
So painful to watch for almost 3 years. What exactly is the plan? when(if) the power house gets revamped they have to then remove all those windows they spent a year putting up, and remove the temp roof etc.. also i thought they were moving the path transformers to the triangle area, 2 years later still nothing. What a joke this "redevelopment" has been, either raze the damn warehouse and sell the land to a developer to get income/remove eyesore, or actually have a full plan to renovate it and put it to use. Instead of dragging this out for years doing nothing but wasting money putting up temporary crap to "stabilize" it. So painful to watch...

Jersey City being an "Abbott" school district actually provides free public preschool for 3 and 4 year olds. When the physical public schools fill up they have contracts with private preschool to handle the overflow.

wow, Fletcher, you really took your loss in May poorly! What did you get, 7% of the vote? I know you're a Tea Partier but your rantings have become borderline scary. Shouldn't you and Yvonne be coming up with strategy for 2017, or are you just going to go all negative in that election? Regardless I personally cannot wait for the Tea Partier to run again! I know you are a Newt Gingrich supporter so likely would like to cut all city agencies, but I don't understand how you expect this office to run without a head? Man, I cannot wait for 2017 when you run again! Will be lots of fun.

If you are suggesting that downtown is built out because there is a rush of new residents taking advantage of the state funded FREE pre K that won't fly. Maybe they should pay their way instead. Families will not live in a SRO (did not think these met zoning regs.)
Now as to how this happened. How about asking the former Councilman for 8 years for starters. You can also ask Council President Lavarro who has been on the JCRA board for a while. The executive director is an employee. All actions were approved by the board and redevelopment plans by the city council. How about holding your former council person accountable (for a change.) Honestly, I do not give a sh-t about this problem. If the executive director should go, so be it. Fulop is the mayor, but don't fill the position. Fulop said one of his deputy directors would work on development (to justify his high price tag.) He lied of course and hired a replacement for director of HEDC anyway. Now why can't his high paid deputy mayor do this job. What the f-ck will he do anyway? Quote:

Right now, JRCA is trying to sell the lot across the stree from PS #3 to put up an 87 unit SRO building. The lot is the same size as the Rosina bulding on Wayne that has 12 units AND parking. None of the redevelopment plans specify the unit size. Wonder how THAT happened.....
Meanwhile, the school is already over crowded and is bussing 3 year olds to Bergen Lafayette because they can't take any more local children.

I could not believe it when I saw that the City of Jersey City, presumably the JCRA, had torn down two historic buildings in the MLK Hub that were actually part of the HUB redevelopment plan.
The redevelopment plan stated : "A cluster of civic facilities is proposed for the two blocks on the west side of MLK Drive, on either side of Ege Avenue. The public uses will include: an African-American Cultural Center/Museum, a Community Bazaar, a Credit Union, and a US Postal Service office. The museum and community bazaar would be developed within existing historic structures - the old Jackson Avenue Railroad Station would house the Museum, and the old Claremont Branch Bank building would house the community bazaar and Credit Union. The concentration of public activities along MLK Drive will reinforce the street's traditional role as the neighborhood's main street." The first of the two buildings were Jackson Avenue Station - this building was on JC Landmarks preservation list:  The second one was The Claremont Branch bank next to the station:  Now we are left with a missed opportunity and an empty lot.

The pot calling the kettle black. Once the redevelopmen authority puts the property into the private hands, the plans are approved by the city council, for all of those failures Fulop should take some responsibility himself. What a croc. He should also be specific if accusing someone of ethics violations. That said I'd be happy if he does not replace Antonicello and we could save the salary but that is a big if, since he will likely replace him with his own do nothing hack. Funny how a guy that looks like he works really hard surrounds himself with the usual suspects. Quote:
