Wait a couple of years til they tear it down and put up condos on that lot. It'll be real interesting to see where we should do our grocery shopping then

Then the free market will support another supermarket to fill any void. Of course, Fresh Direct and similar online based supermarkets are gaining clients daily.

Far as I can tell it's anti-urban bias.

Totally silly, given their presence in Manhattan, no?

It's an "out of towner" attitude. "We've heard of Manhattan, but where the hell is Jersey City?" Seriously, go to their website and see the backwaters they've put stores in. Rural towns of 70k. I know people are tired of my reciting this, but if Hudson County were a city, it would be both higher population and denser than Boston, Denver and Portland. A stupid market to ignore.

That's amazing. You'll have to share your route with me. Where are you leaving from? You no longer cut through Hoboken? It takes me about 15 minutes just to get through Hoboken alone.

I can bike to Edgewater in less than 40 minutes. And Manhattan, with it's vertical density, isn't a good comparison. In any case, the true test would be if TJ's thinks JC is a good fit for their corporate goals. So far it's not made the grade.

I understand there's a Trader Joe's in Edgewater, which is about 40 minutes away by car if there isn't traffic. The TJ model in New York City would contradict your statement. There are Trader Joe's on 14th St. and 21st St., and it takes 4 minutes by cab/car/bus to get from one to the other, and a 15 minute walk respectively. So New York is allowed to break the TJ model, and the second largest city in NJ can go to hell right? I filled two shopping bags from TJ's for less then $50. I bought $0.19 Bananas. VERY high income shoppers? Really? I don't think so.

If thousands of people inundated their email with location requests, maybe they would take notice?

How about suggesting they locate along a light rail stop so that some of the underserved parts of the city get some better options.

Sounds great. I've already submitted my location request, and I just mentioned Jersey City as a whole, but I hope you submit your request too. The more emails to them the better.

If the plans for the food market in 8 Erie Street come to fruition, the food situation might improve quite a bit. There is an article in the Summer issue of the JCI that describes what is planned. I can't find it on line, but perhaps some one else can.

As much as I would love a WF or a Wegman's, I prefer smaller stores that can survive on the local market and don't bring a lot of cars into the neighborhood.

Oh, total rumor, but I think I saw one of the Top Chef contestants having lunch with Brunelleschi at Grand Sichuan. Maybe that's who will be running the resto.

Hoboken has better educated and wealthier population and still they have no WF. Even Brooklyn had to wait a long time for a WF.

Most likely when hell freezes over. In all seriousness, nobody knows! The Whole Foods/Trader Joe's is about a decade old. Realtors use it to sell real estate and people eat that BS up. A Whole Foods/Trader Joe's/Fairway/Wegmans would make a killing around here, but alas it will not come to fruition, and even if it did, it will be many years from now.

No need, it's already been exposed as false. WF will not be in that location.

Yeah, caught that after I posted. Maybe my friend's wife will give *some* insight into this area.

EDIT: I do recall from a conversation with her about 8 years ago or so that affluence was their stipulation.

Trader Joe's is a much better fit for JC. The stores are much smaller (we have limited space) and the prices are a lot more reasonable than Whole Foods.

Also, with their prepared and frozen selections it makes a lot more sense for the lunch crowd and commuters.

It would great on Newark Ave or in the area between the Tunnel and Hoboken.

Good Morning All,

My name is Michael Sinatra and I'm both a Hudson County resident and the public relations/public affairs manager for Whole Foods Market here in the Northeast Region (NY/NJ/CT).

This chain was just brought to my attention, and I'm sorry to report that this sign was NOT in-fact hung by Whole Foods Market. Unfortunately, we are often associated with various projects and developments whether we are truly involved or not. That said, we do not currently have an official plan to open a store in Jersey City.

However, please know that we have openly committed to expanding in the tri-state area (and throughout the country). While there are no leases or deals currently signed, customers who wish to see a Whole Foods Market in Jersey City can consider posting these opportunities for us in our "suggest-a-store" forum on our website
http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/forum ... 36-4fab-9cec-ae561906a267

Please let me apologize if anyone feels that this was a "hoax". Should you have any additional questions, please feel free to e-mail me at Michael.Sinatra@wholefoods.com

best regards,
Michael

Do idiot developers who obviously steal the logo and lie get in trouble for this?
