Re: Brooklyn Brainery model in JC

Hi Folks,

Someone sent me this thread today so I wanted to reach out. Back in April I started the groundwork to bring a multi-disciplinary work space to an industrial building in JC, preferably near downtown. I've collected surveys from the community and have been speaking to some folks in real estate and in the government. I took a respite to find a business partner, and as of this week I am teaming up with a colleague to make this go faster.

We are going to start looking into forming an advisory board and go from there. In terms of model, 3rd Ward in Brooklyn is the closest template to that we want to do, however the disciplines will not be completely the same. We're interested in digital arts, filmmaking, 3D Printing as well as traditional craft and coworking.

We have a survey and a mailing list you can complete to let us know what types of things you'd want to have in a space as a member.

Thanks for the info. Anyone have insights as to why it's been vacant so long. Is the asking price to ridiculously high?

I'm working with an architect to bring an installation/workspace and education space to JC, and I'm looking for land for it to go for 6 months or longer.

Does anyone have the name or contact information for the owners or whoever represents the owners of the 141 Newark lot?

Bringing a multi-disciplinary workspace to downtown JC

Greetings,

My name is Seamus and I've been a JC resident since 2007. I'm launching an initiative to bring a multi-disciplinary workspace and education center to downtown Jersey City.

What is that you say? It's a place for makers, whether they work with wood, metal, code, paint, or pixels. The inspiration for this initiative comes from existing spaces such as 3rd Ward in Brooklyn and Techshop.

This initiative just began and it's going to be a slow-burning one at first ? I've got a full-time job at a NYC startup, but I'm dedicated to this project, as are a small group of colleagues and friends. But we need more.

If you're interested in learning more, please visit www.makergrove.com and sign-up for updates. When you do, you'll get a confirmation email that has a link to a survey, which will help us shape the direction of the effort. If you prefer you can also access the survey directly here.

If you have any questions or would like to inquire about helping the cause, please respond in the thread and I'll be happy to chat. You can also reach out to me via email at info@makergrove.com. You can also ping us on Twitter at @MakerGrove, and my personal account - @SeamusCondron.
