it ended with a call for support:

I wonder who's actually falling for this crapload?

One document in particular seems to indicate that they will put the pipeline under the Path train tracks through most of downtown JC north of Columbus and to Hoboken.

Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW) reports that a 12-inch high pressure gas main broke. While crews were working on the break an explosion occurred.

Look at Ground Zero in NYC. Hello. Empire State Building was built in "just 410 days after construction commenced. The building was officially opened on May 1, 1931 in dramatic fashion" - according to Wikipedia.

NYC has been on the Federal Gravy Train for a long time.

The potential dangers of Spectra's proposed natural gas pipeline took the spotlight at Tuesday night's monthly meeting of the Riverside Neighborhood Association in Jersey City.

In December, the Texas-based company filed an application to snake the proposed pipeline through Jersey City, Bayonne, and offshore Hoboken. The pipeline would serve customers in New York City.

Stephen Musgrave, co-creator of NoGasPipeline.org, addressed about 30 association members in the cafeteria of the Harbor View Health Center on Ogden Avenue at 7:30 p.m.

"This pipe has the same specifications as the one in California that blew up in September," Musgrave said.

He distributed an "infographic" showing the areas that would be affected if the pipeline were to explode in the same fashion as the Pacific Gas and Electric pipeline in San Bruno.

Densely populated areas of Jersey City and a 911 regional response center would be at immediate risk, Musgrave said.

U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg, U.S. Rep. Albio Sires, Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy, and state Sen. Sandra B. Cunningham have all raised concerns about the safety of the pipeline.

Bayonne Mayor Mark Smith is against the pipeline running through residential areas in Bayonne.

Last week, the City of Jersey City filed for intervenor status with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, which means the city could legally challenge the pipeline if FERC gives it a green light.

The Sierra Club of New Jersey, which supports the use of natural gas, has said that the changes Spectra included in its final application significantly improves the plan.

Several Jersey City residents have made us aware of a post card that is being sent out by Spectra Energy, claiming "safety" and featuring the image of a child. Exploiting the image of a child to emotively sell their dangerous pipeline ? this should tell you something about how they operate and the credibility of their claims to safety and stewardship. They will say anything.

Don?t know if you already knew this.. Spectra has been running legal notices in the JJ since last week. (12/30/10)

It is a full page notice that says they filed an application with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) . It says land owners near the proposed pipeline will receive notices in the mail. It has a lot of detail. I will give a heads up the next time I see it in the JJ. (but you guys should be buying the JJ anyway!!)

In response to Spectra Energy's proposal to run a natural gas pipeline through Jersey City, Bayonne and the shores of Hoboken, several artists from Jersey City are initiating an art exhibition entitled "Dark Matter: Bright Future?" that shows how environmental issues can affect the future.

Event listings posted online by Andrea Morin, the curator of LITM gallery - which is also a lounge and restaurant at 140 Newark Ave. in Jersey City - said the exhibition was inspired by the group NoGasPipeline.org that is working to prevent the pipeline project from being launched.


Morin is currently calling local artists to submit work for the exhibition. All submissions must reflect upon how environmental issues such as the pipeline project can affect the community in the near and distant future.

"I feel that in a time when we, as a society, should be moving towards safer, more sustainable energy sources, it is an error to be installing new gas pipelines," Morin said.

"I am happy to ... draw attention to the issue," she added.

Morin invites artists to interpret the theme freely and will accept works in any medium as long as they can be hung on the gallery's walls.

Spectra Energy filed an application for the pipeline project on Dec. 20 with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. Given the changes made to the original design, the New Jersey chapter of the Sierra Club, has endorsed the plan.

Spectra Energy reroutes and redesigns pipeline after fierce opposition from Jersey City and Bayonne officials, residents

After facing great opposition from citizens and politicians from Jersey City and Bayonne, Spectra Energy has redesigned and rerouted its controversial gas pipeline, according to today's Jersey Journal.

Spectra spokeswoman Marylee Hanley said the company has made significant changes to its proposal in response to concerns raised by residents and elected officials.

"We have made numerous safety enhancements to the design, construction and operations of the pipeline," she said.

"In some areas where we heard the greatest concern, in both Jersey City and Bayonne, and additional engineering options were viable, we will be avoiding in-street construction and performing horizontal directional drills that would place the pipe at a depth greater than 60 feet below the ground," she added.

The company wants to extend an existing natural gas pipeline from Linden to Staten Island, under the Kill Van Kull to Bayonne, and then through Jersey City. The pipe will serve Con Edison

NY 'Fracking' Ban: Governor David Paterson Orders Natural Gas Hydraulic Fracturing Moratorium For Seven Months In New York

ALBANY, N.Y. ? Environmental groups and energy companies both claimed victory after Gov. David Paterson ordered a seven-month moratorium on some natural gas drilling in the state, although environmentalists would have preferred the broader ban that the Legislature had approved.

The outgoing Democratic governor vetoed a bill on Saturday that would have suspended all new natural-gas drilling permits until May 15. Instead, he issued an executive order prohibiting high-volume hydraulic fracturing of horizontally drilled wells, such as those in the Marcellus Shale region of southern New York. The order stands until July 1.

High-volume hydraulic fracturing, also known as fracking, involves blasting millions of gallons of chemical-laced water thousands of feet underground to crack shale and release natural gas trapped inside it. The Environmental Protection Agency is examining the process to see if it imperils drinking water supplies, as opponents claim.

Permitting of gas wells in New York's part of the Marcellus region, which also underlies parts of Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia, has already been on hold for two years while the state Department of Environmental Conservation reviews its potential effects on the environment.

In vetoing the Legislature's oil and gas-drilling moratorium, Paterson said it would have applied to all conventional, low-volume, vertically drilled wells, effectively shutting down an industry that has been operating safely for decades.

Low-volume hydraulic fracturing of conventional, vertical wells uses several thousand gallons of water per well, versus up to 8 million gallons per horizontal well with high-volume fracturing.

Paterson's budget office estimated that such a broad ban would cost thousands of industry jobs, stop landowner payments and significantly reduce state and local revenues from permit fees and taxes.

The Independent Oil and Gas Association of New York said the Legislature's moratorium would have threatened the viability of more than 300 producing companies and the jobs of their 5,000 employees.

The state Farm Bureau also lobbied for Paterson's veto, saying its members have benefited from vertical gas drilling for many years and invested the royalty payments into their farms.

The oil and gas association said the Legislature's bill would have cut in half the number of months drilling could take place next year, resulting in a net loss of nearly $800,000 in real property taxes and $1.4 million in royalty payments.

"The moratorium bill would have forced me to evaluate my company's future in New York," said John Holko, president of Lenape Resources, a gas-drilling company in Genesee County.

A coalition of about a dozen environmental groups released a statement praising Paterson's moratorium while warning that it creates a "loophole" that industry can exploit. That is, it doesn't apply to vertical wells, "exactly the kind of wells that were responsible for ruining nine square miles of aquifer and poisoning the drinking water of more than a dozen families in Dimock, Pa.," the groups said.

In Dimock, homeowners sued last year after Houston-based Cabot Oil & Gas Corp. drilled faulty wells that allowed methane and, possibly, toxic drilling chemicals to escape into their drinking water aquifer.

The environmental groups, which include Environmental Advocates, Earthjustice, the Natural Resources Defense Council, Sierra Club and others, said they would call on Gov.-elect Andrew Cuomo to "fix the loophole."

The Downtown Coalition of Neighborhood Associations (DCNA ) had invited Spectra Energy's Tim White to speak to the public on December 1st at Codero School, PS #37 from 7 until 9PM. Unfortunately Spectra declined at this time.

NO Gas Pipeline was notified that Spectra Energy hired MWW, the 5th largest Public Relations firm in the US, to speak on their behalf at neighborhood meetings. Subsequently, Tim White, MWW Vice President, has been engaged by Spectra Energy to be their spokesman. A letter from a woman in New York is supposed to convince me to let a pipeline be built in New Jersey? Could they seriously not find a single person in New Jersey to write a letter for them?

Spectra Energy has launched a new website to promote their proposal to build a natural gas pipeline that will run through Jersey City and Bayonne. The website, YesGasPipeline.org, emphasizes the tax revenue and job creation benefits of the project, as reported by today's Journal.

Tim White, a a vice president at MWW group, told the Jersey Journal that the site is one of many ways the company is reaching out to the community. Locals have fiercely protested the pipeline by creating websites pointing out the dangers and environmental issues associated with natural gas pipelines (like NoGasPipeline.org) and changing local zoning laws in attempt to block the pipeline, as previously reported by the Journal.

The gas pipeline is part of Spectra's New York/New Jersey Expansion Project.

They claim the pipeline will create 5,200 permanent jobs in "North New Jersey and New York. Beyond fiction.

They also have a "Support for the project" section that features two letters - one from the head of the trade union who will supply the workers to build the project and the other a woman in NY.

Check the site out. Give them comments. Also - they have an office at Warren and Dudley. Maybe a few dozen of us could go visit them after Thanksgiving.

What they're doing is unethical and a good example of the kind of behavior we'd be in for if Spectra gets a foothold in Jersey City.

I just answered questions about the pipeline from the survey company. They first ask if you would like to take a survey about "Jersey City." Then they ask you about your opinions of our elected officials. Most of the questions about the pipeline were something like "would you be more likely to support the pipeline or would you be neutral if you knew that Spectra would reduce your taxes with the pipeline?" I just kept saying that I would still be against it and that it wouldn't help me. They ended the call asking me questions about whether I read newspapers, watch tv and email people.

The survey is designed to support the Spectra Energy pipeline through JC. I am not sure that there is a way around it, because the questions are formulated in a way which supports the pipeline.
