So does this place have highchairs for kids? I wouldn't want to take the kids to a place that isn't kid friendly.

Finally made my way over to Satis and was very impressed. Service was wonderful, Decor is warm and charming and the food was really very good. It's a great addition to the neighborhood and brunch will be starting this weekend or next which I'm looking forward to. Also, the retail portion will be open this week or very soon, you'll be able to pick up anything from the salumeria, cheese, bread, etc...

I really enjoyed my overal experience @ Satis, I felt welcome the minute I walked in and after the meal it felt like I had been there 20 times already. I LOVE the fact there's no bar and all the noise and nonsense that comes with it like others spots in the area. Also, the BYO is a great plus, can bring something nice from home or order from the corner.

I can't say enough about the staff, well trained, friendly but not too chatty or buddy buddy and they were really sweet with my 2 yr old daughter. They even comp'd her gelato which was very nice gesture.

Also, the short rib was out of this world, go hungry as portions were rather generous and prices really low. We'll be heading back this week for sure, see you all there.

It's very encouraging to read all of these positive comments. I was tired of reading about places that were "awful" and worst and "decent" at best. Looking forward to trying Satis.

We had an extraordinary experience at this restaurant last week - so exceptional that I have to spread the word! The decor is charming, and the place is impeccably clean and comfortable...the service - gracious and attentive and the food, perfectly delectable. Creative, tasty and nicely portioned Continental fare...great variety at reasonable prices.

My wife and friends and I tried Satis for the first time tonight - fantastic! I'd forgotten people's comments about the tuna and ordered it. I thought it was quite good, especially the sauce - maybe they've worked that out. We also didn't pay a corkage fee for our wine. Satis will definitely be a go-to place for us.

Had our second meal there a few nights ago and again excellent. Truly the best meals we have had in Jersey City. The place was jumping Wednesday night. Very happy for them.

Thank you all for the recommendation. My family of four had dinner at Satis tonight. Except for the tuna, everything was fabulous. This place is a great addition to the neighborhood. The meat/cheese board was delicious. The arugula salad was fantastic. The short ribs -- really the best I've ever had.

Had lunch there today with 5 work colleagues for a Christmas-type get-together and they were blown away. I have been there once before so knew we would have a great experience. I wouldn't be surprised if this became our go-to for work functions and client meetings.

My wife and I were there last night, everything was great. Spoke to the owner, Mike and he said they will be starting to serve weekend brunch after the first of the year.

Is this place open on saturdays and sundays? we usually go to the Light Horse on the weekend for brunch / early lunch, but would be great if this place is open as well as a second option.

+1 on the positive comments posted for Satis Bistro. We had a wonderful experience there on Saturday night. The food was great, everything came out at the right time, and the service was friendly and attentive.

I brought beer and was not charged a corkage fee. But I also opened the beer myself and drank straight from the bottle.

They've got the best quality food in JC at the moment. Hopefully they maintain the standards and service. I'll be a regular if they do. It's great to have a real classy cured meat joint in downtown.

Dined at Satis Friday night. After we ate there, I thought that the corkage fee was annoying but... WOW... this food is amazing. My fiance had the soup of the day and the prawns. I had the antipasti and the spinach with soft boiled egg. For dessert we shared the German (or Dutch?) Chocolate gelato with pecans and caramel. Yum.

The food was great and the service was exceptional. And now that the corkage fee has been eliminated, I will be dining there at least once a week.

And Ironarts, the link you posted states this in the very first line of the website,

"What is Corkage?
Corkage is a per bottle fee that a restaurant charges a customer who brings their own wine to be consumed at that restaurant. This isn't allowed in the majority of restaurants in the country, but it's very common/normal in Northern California."

Read stuff before you post it folks :0

Ironarts: It is ILLEGAL for any establishment in the state of New Jersey to charge a corkage fee. In Texas, where I am from, the laws are different and places are allowed by law and do charge a corkage fee.

Here is the NJ law and the website where I found it:
"4
Are non-licensed restaurants permitted to allow customers to bring their own alcoholic beverages (byob) for consumption with their meals?

Unless there is a local ordinance prohibiting it, customers of an unlicensed restaurant may be permitted by the ownership of the restaurant to bring and consume only wine and beer. The restaurant can supply glasses, ice, etc., but may not impose a cover, corkage or service charge. Also, under no circumstances may spirituous liquor be permitted. There may be no advertising whatsoever of the fact that wine or beer may be permitted. Additionally, the owner may not permit wine or beer to be consumed during hours in which the sale of these products is prohibited by licensees in that municipality, nor allow consumption of beer or wine by persons under the age of 21 years or by persons who are actually or apparently drunk or intoxicated. (N.J.S.A. 2C:33-27)." http://www.nj.gov/oag/abc/faqs.html#4

Perhaps the owners were ignorant of the law at first or just thought they could get away with charging a corkage fee for a while.

We were back yesterday with friends again, had a blast. Did bring our bottles again, and did not get charge a fee. Had they done so, I'd be happy to pay, as i saved at least $50+ on the wines we had.
In college I worked in a byo place in DC for years and they always had a corkage fee. It is customary to charge it when a place doesnt have a license, and nobody seem to mind it. Their electric, glasses, labor etc cost $ as well, not to mention they serve it to me! I hope this place will stay open, Im not convinced they will survive without a license and these low prices. 4 of us spent just over $120, that is pretty low for that area. I always felt the same way about OX, and look where they are now.Food was great, service was great, yet they couldn't survive. For what it's worth, the food and the ambience is great, and we really enjoyed it.

For all of you not familiar with the practice, check the link below what we can all expect from a place that ALLOWS you to bring your drinks.

Enjoyed it immensely.

For an appetizer, we had the bacon wrapped stuffed dates. I don't much like dates, but the almonds, blue cheese, sweet dates and bacon tasted great.

Likewise, we had a wedge of Gorgonzola Dolce which went extremely well with our red wine. The Gorgonzola was served at the perfect temperature and was of excellent quality.

I had the short ribs which went extremely well with the goat cheese mashed potatoes. She had ricotta gnocchi which was very good.

The sweet potato crem brulee was excellent with my expresso cortado.

Cool vibe and decor, great food, attentive waiter, and very good prices definitely make this place worth the visit. I will be back soon and can't wait until they open for lunch.

I understand that the corkage has been been eliminated.

Well my husband and I DID bring our own wine and we were charged, what was clearly stated on the bill, as a "corkage fee". I will give them the benefit of the doubt that they may have made a mistake, but on Yelp.com, someone else complained that the same "mistake" was made on their bill when they brought their own, family made wine.

BTW, I am NOT a hater. I clearly stated in my post that we had a lovely dinner. We were just very unpleasantly surprised about the $8 corkage fee charged to our bill. Perhaps enough folks have complained and they are reconsidering the fee.

I just called and spoke to the manager...the $ fee is NOT a corkage fee. IF you bring your own bottle you don't get charged anything, but if you buy a bottle from the restaurant, which is delivered by Liberty Wines, then you pay a $ Delivery fee, as well you should. FYI, it is against NJ law to charge a corkage fee. IT sucks that folks are so quick to hate a place or write it off just because of rumors. It took 30 seconds to call the restaurant and get the fee policy clarified. Haters SUCK!

I don't care how reasonable their prices are. A corkage fee for a BYOB Is ridiculous. They are the ones who are not applying for a liquor license, so people who want some wine have to bring it themselves. It's not like they already have wine to serve customers and you are bringing in your own bottle. I call BS.

That's quite a new concept, a corkage fee at a BYOB. I don't like it at all; seems like a new way to separate patrons from their money.
