Here's my Yelp review from just last week:

What a pleasant surprise. We ate here last night and had a delicious Turkish meal. The appetizer combo was awesome. We traveled to Turkey this past summer and I can attest that this is the real deal. Most shocking, however, is that we were the only diners in the restaurant on a Friday evening. I guess few have discovered this BYOB neighborhood gem.

Well my husband and I DID bring our own wine and we were charged, what was clearly stated on the bill, as a "corkage fee". I will give them the benefit of the doubt that they may have made a mistake, but on Yelp.com, someone else complained that the same "mistake" was made on their bill when they brought their own, family made wine.

BTW, I am NOT a hater. I clearly stated in my post that we had a lovely dinner. We were just very unpleasantly surprised about the $8 corkage fee charged to our bill. Perhaps enough folks have complained and they are reconsidering the fee.

Went last night, great addition to the neighborhood. Food was great, service was great and the atmosphere is cozy. My only gripe came with the bill, which included an $8 corkage fee. That is excessive, to say the least. Honestly, I have never been charged a corkage fee before at a BYOB. It left a sour note on an otherwise lovely dinner.

I agree, way to similar to Liberty Towers Gourmet. Which leads to the following concern, will they put each other out of business trying to compete, putting the area back to square 1 where we have no grocery options?

Time will tell...

Seriously. I live very close to the marina and I've never heard anything from Governors Island. Anyhoo - fear not. The last concert of the season was on the 11th. Not sure what you heard yesterday to provoke your post, but it wasn't from GI: http://bit.ly/9e97TI

Holy cr$p, I thought it was just me. How are they allowed to blast dance music until midnight on a Sunday? This has been going on all summer. It is in fact coming from Govenors Island, we can see the strobe lights from our apartment.

If we can hear it, the residents in downtown Manhattan must be going out of their minds.

My husband and I went last night for dinner and it was outstanding. The service still needs some work, but the staff is very friendly. Neither of us are Indian, so I can't speak to authenticity, but this was some of the best Indian food we've ever had.

We will be heading back, it's a great addition to the neighborhood.

The buy vs. rent argument has been played out ad-nausea on this site.

Here is the bottom line for this "non bitter renter":

1. Tying up $150k+ in a most likely continuing to deteriorate "asset"-no thanks.
2. Taxes- $10k-$15k/year in property tax is highway robbery, especially in JC where you can't even claim that it?s going to a good school district.
3. Maintenance fees- $700/month-are you f%$king kidding me?!
4. I pay $2k/month for a waterfront rental in Paulus Hook. I have the best views of Manhattan and activity on the river. My complex has an outdoor pool and a gym. To own a comparable property would cost me closer to $4k/month plus the down payment mentioned above.

If you bought 10 years ago, kudos to you.

For now, I will sit this one out and rent all day long!

It didn't take an advanced degree in math for me to figure out that renting in JC is significantly more cost effective than buying.

They pulled me aside this morning, said my body temperature registered as "high". Peppered me with questions about why that would be. Kind of weird, I tend to walk very briskly and am not feverish, overheat easily. As a matter of fact, I walked from 42nd Street to Penn Station a few years ago in 5 degree weather and arrived sweating.

My fear is that these types of machines will be used at airports and healthy people like me will be flagged for not conforming to "normal" body temperature readings.

BTW, I am a healthy, athletic 36 year old woman.

I have and it was good, but do they still have horrible hours? They used to close at 8pm on weekdays and not open at all on weekends. My theory is, if you don't cater to the residents, we won't cater to you.

I agree that they may have some wrinkles to iron out, but they are a great addition to the neighborhood. They have tons of fresh produce and bakery items, including quality bread.

And sorry, as a resident, I do not feel sorry for the Green Cow-they are NEVER open. They clearly cater to the local office workers, not the residents.

Did you call BofA or FIA card services? (I may have missed it in your post) The reason I ask is that my Credit Union uses FIA and I had nothing but problems with FIA when the credit union first switched to them. It was ridiculous! Bottom line is, I stopped calling FIA and called my CU directly and they took care of everything...haven't had a problem since.

I just stopped in on my way home and it looks like it has a lot of potential for Paulus Hook residents. A few requests for the owners:

Please establish a relationship with a good bakery and offer fresh bread in your grocery section. It is sad that one can't stop on your way home from work and pick up a nice loaf of french bread. I always have to remember to pick it up in the city.

In addition to catering to the 9-5ers in the area, please keep the residents of Paulus Hook in mind. I understand that you are running a business and need to be profitable, but too many establishments in the area neglect the permanent residents by closing early and not opening on weekends. If you cater to us, I promise to frequent your establishment.
