They have my favorite pizza in JC. It's thin and crispy with just the right crust/cheese/sauce ratio. They get pretty busy at lunch but they are always friendly and working hard to get orders filled. And a slice of plain is still $2!

When I've ordered delivery, the pizza comes hot and fresh but it always seems to take 45min at night.

Just wanted to chime in here. We order from here often and we love it! Today I ordered a salad for the first time and it was great. I've been pretty disappointed with the salad options in JC and was happy to get a tasty and filling salad for a very reasonable price.

Not only is the food good here, but the people are incredibly nice. My best friend's double-parked car died in front of the restaurant earlier today, and two of the guys came out and gave her a jump. True neighbors. Thanks, guys.

Buon Appetito is the best place i've found down-town for subs. Everything i've ever had there has been really good. Took me a while to find out about this place, but i'm glad i did.

Had their pizza for the first time last Saturday. Surprisingly very good! That space has been occupied by several pizzeria-type businesses, but it looks like this one's a keeper.

I am from Bayonne but never bothered buying there because I can cook well. I finally, after years of everyone I know running there to pick up meals, broke down. Everything they said was true. Good food, good service, good selection. And no pots and pans to wash!
I was surprised when the CEO of a company I worked for tell me he and his wife had dinner there over the previous weekend. He's over an hour drive from here.

Went there. Pizza could use a little more flavor, maybe slightly saltier with the cheese, but overall the place was great.

had a meatball hero as well. i have a feeling this could become a goto spot for me.

I'm a fan of the Buon Appetito in Bayonne. The food is always fresh and reasonably priced, the portions generous. I'm looking forward to trying the new one on Grove Street. Another place for great Italian sandwiches and salads for take-out lunch is The Second Street Bakery. It's very old, and very small, but there is ALWAYS a line there at lunch -- usually JCPD and JCFD -- and they sell out quickly!

love their food, but FYI...

I'm very sorry to report that I have given up on my new fav downtown italian joint, Buon Apetito. The food is good, hot and reasonably priced and the people are friendly, but after the last few orders, it has come to my attention that they have been intentionally over-charging me.

First, I ordered a chix-pasta dish priced at ten bucks. I ordered it with whole wheat pasta and I went to pick it up, asked for the italian bread they stock, not a soft roll. No problem, but they charged me an extra two dollars. When I asked about the up-charge, the owner(i believe) told me they charge extra for the whole wheat pasta....oh, and the bread, too! (neither was on the menu). No big deal.

Next time, I ordered the same dish, without the wheat pasta, or ital bread, but they still charged me the extra two dollars. This time, they told me the prices had gone up and they didn't print the new menu yet. Seems fishy.

Third order....ok, so this time, my girlfriend thinks I'm just crazy and cheap, so she went to pick up a pizza and see if she has a similar experience. Sure enough, she got charged an extra 2 bucks and change for the medium pie with one topping. This time, after she complained the guy have her a dollar back, saying he rang it up wrong. (I think not)

Dollar here, dollar there.
Sorry, it's just bad business, and they won't get mine!

I was searching for the address of Buon Appetito, so I used the net. I found this thread and read through it with interest. So here\'s my post...

I love to cook (and I\'m good at it); Italian is one of my favorite ethnic cuisines. My friends that I was visiting in JC said this place delivers, so I said let\'s check it out. They had only had pizza, and often a pizzeria doesn\'t make great food. Well, this place does! From the garlic bread w/mozzarella, stuffed clams, and the fried calamari appetizers to the shrimp francese, and pasta dish w/pancetta and onion in cream sauce and the other two main dishes (those friends don\'t share), to the freshly stuffed cannoli - I couldn\'t believe how very good the food was. The tiramisu cake wasn\'t my favorite. It tasted good, but I prefer it made in a dish with a big ol\' spoonful taken out for a portion. It\'s really not often that I can say the majority of a place\'s food is so good. My congratulations.

YES. Capicola, Prosciutto, Sopressata with Sharp Provolone with lettuce and tomato. Amazing. sort of like pringles in that you can't eat just one. Ate half of the sandwich with the intent of having the other half later. Didn't last, was in the kitchen an hour later and finished it.

Wow, we actually agree with something ???
Totally shocking...lol lol

had lunch there today - excellent food, price very reasonable for what you get. wife had the chicken daily special w/rice, and I had the scungili (spell?) with pasta. sauce/flavoring on both dishes was very good, served with bread that was just perfect.

Highly recommended.

only beef i have is thet there is a major draft when people come in/out. need double doors.

oh - and they had tiramisu.

I love this place! I live on the same block. I eat dinner there on almost any given night. Slices are humongous @ a very fair price. Food choice is of abundance and whatever your desire or flavor, you can't go wrong. I rarely give a restaurant I enjoy anything higher than an 8/10 but this really deserves the 9 (Personal preference to never give anything in this world a 10/10....nothing's perfect!)

War, shills, chastising, it's good though eh ! You never thought Italian could taste this good. See what happens when you look outside your transient box. You're in N.J. / N.Y. territory where "real" Italian & food go perfect together. Buon Appetito coming to the Downtown area creates an open mind for the new comers where they probably wouldn't have made the effort to venture throughout the city or the county for that matter.

I just stopped by this place yesterday and have to say the lunch was excellent.

It's all in the Sauce and they seem to have it right.

Portions were satisfying and service was very accomodating.

Wish these people all the best.

The places you've mentioned aren't even family owned and the others are not even real Italian. The old neighborhood people knew where to go for ingredients for their Sunday dinner. A real Italian deli is called a Salumeria or pork store. These other rinky dink places can't cut it. They just figure the new young residents don't know any better. Downtown J.C. used to have great places years ago Start realizing what you are being served I wouldn't trust half of these joints. At least you know Buon Appetito is an established business from years ago, you get good value there but most of all you get good quality. By the way why would anyone on this site chastise reviews it's not shilling don't cha know.

Maybe I am being really naive but they seem like authentic posts to me. I think people living downtown want as many dining options as possible to maximize diversity of eating choices (I eat at Ibby's, Wild Fusion, Merchant predominantly so it's always good to add something new to the mix). Also, as far as I know, what other mom-pop Italian places do we have besides Stella's and Helen's, which are really submarine/pizza establishments?
