Thanks. That could be a solution if I can't find anyone. I'm not the handiest person so a contractor would be ideal. But this is definitely an option.

Looking for a contractor who can take an alcove in our place and build custom shelves. I had one contractor but he was not detailed oriented and his work proved to but mediocre at best. Any suggestions? Thank you

Does anyone know much about PS 16? How are the teachers/students? How big are the classes? What do people love/hate about it?

Our son will be entering school soon and I think we are zoned for PS 16. Any info would help. I am always surprised how difficult it is to find info on public schools.

Anyone know why there is police activity there? Must have been about 8 cops. Looks like they were in the Spanish restaurant on Varick right south of Columbus.

Thank you. What I'm looking to do has nothing to do with taxes. I want to see how much my apt is "worth" so I can figure out if refinancing is a good idea.

Hello there and welcome to Dixon Mills. I actually live in the A building on the top floor facing Wayne Street. I used Wayne Ratti for my inspection and he is great! I can not say enough to recommend him. My wife and I were about to close on an apartment on Brunswick, but Wayne discovered so many problems with the building that we got our of the deal. We liked him so much we used him again when we needed to get our Dixon Mills apartment inspected. His number is 201-280-5811.

Ever since Obama became a national figure four years ago, my wife and I been inspired to be a little more involved. So my question, does anyone know where we could volunteer with kids? I was thinking maybe the boys club had something or maybe some kind of big brother/big sister organization. Thank you.

A voter may apply for an absentee ballot by completing an Absentee Ballot Application (see below) and mailing the application to their County Clerk by mail up to 7 days prior to the election. A voter may also apply in person to the County Clerk until 3:00 p.m., the day before the election. The County Clerk cannot accept faxed copies of an Absentee Ballot Application since an original signature is required."

What exactly is the problem? Why does it seem so difficult to start a business here? What is the city doing to prolong the opening?

That bar is on of the main reasons I didn't buy a condo on that block. For one, it's not the friendliest looking bar; I mean, jeez, add some windows. But the vibe just did not sit well with me. I figured that bar would be a major problem.

Despite my previous "war" with CanKicker, I wholeheartedly agree. The place is excellent.

My wife and I had dinner there last night and I have to say, it was damn good. I ordered the chicken Parm with pasta which was amazing. She had the rigatoni with vodka sauce. The sauce was delicious. We plan on frequently dining there.

+1 for Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell, a 900-page epic that flew by way too quickly. I've been calling it the Harry Potter for grownups, but it's way more sly and clever and gripping than that shorthand description would suggest. plus, there's a whole other story going on in the footnotes.

Middlesex is another good epic read, as is The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay.

now I'm getting my nonfiction fill with Omnivore's Dilemma.

I've always wanted to read Jonathan strange but the 900 pages has always frightened me off...

Considering how many artists and creative types there are in JC, I'd sugguest The Agony and Ecstasy by Irving Stone

Call Wayne Ratti at Statewide Home Inspections at 201-280-5811

He is insanely thorough. The first time I used him he pointed out major malfuntions with a unit that I ended up buying. He was great. I later used him again for another unit and he had such good advice. He was recommended to me by a friend and I now recommend him to everyone I know. He even got into a little spat with our first real estate agent because the agent thought he was being too picky. You wont be disappointed with this guy.

Does anyone know what's happening with Grove and Montgomery? I know it used to be used a base for politicians as well as a gallery. But I drove by the other day and saw that the building has been taken down. (where have I been) Does anyone know what will be at that spot?

Such funny timing -- just last night friends and I were talking about the level of paranoia around having people have keys to your place -- cleaning peeps, dog walkers, etc. We came to the conclusion that it's a whole lot of work to set up a fake biz just to rob people. Knock wood.

I have Dream Home Services come every two weeks. (They are an offshoot of what was formerly known as Rags To Roses, which closed.) Quite a few people on this board use them. I do not have a single complaint.

Main contact is Esther at:

Essygreeneyes@aol.com

Good luck!

Wow, it was almost like I posted that response. Giving away my keys always makes me feel uneasy. Great point about people not setting up work to rob others, but I feel like there is always that one evil employee.

So, Dream Home Services, I'll look into them. Thank you very much. Any other suggestions out there? Any other other stories on house cleaners?

I've always been too paranoid to hire a house cleaner for fear of having my things stolen or broken; but mostly stolen.

Does anyone here use house cleaning services that they just swear by. One they just could not live without?

Now, my wife and I both do our parts in cleaning our 2 bed room apartment, but we kind of hate it. It's not fun, and takes too much time. We figured if we hired someone twice a month to clean the apartment, it wouldn't take so much of our time when we did it. Any suggestions??
