Yes, speaking of Muffy and Biff, lets hope there is NO wine served here, that's its a true beer garden. Also, no Vinnies and Guidettas so you have a nice easy-going clientele.

Hmm, I'm not really a fan of Smuttynose actually. Can't put my finger on it. We have similar tastes in beer actually....I don't like wheat beers either!

Fat Tire makes my list! Probably a close #1 or 2 (Magic Hat #9 is at the top as well). Same brewery that makes Fat Tire makes Sunshine Wheat, also very good. Too bad we can't get them back east. I brought a case on a flight as my carry on luggage once.

I wonder what type of clientele this place will attract - hopefully a laid back crowd. Praying we won't have Biff and Muffy or Vinnie and Gino puking all over one another.

Zeps Beer Garden...when does it open? I'm there!
They should do st.pauli's girl promotions there...my high school beer of choice for a multitude of reasons. I had Albita Turbo Dog last night....it was a solid good beer. Highly recommended. two other favorites I haven't seen people's lists: - Affligem Blonde - Chimay

No German beers here, but to each his own!
1 - Chimay Cinq Cents (White) 2 - Chimay Grande Reserve (Blue) 3 - Chimay Premiere (Red) 4 - Sierra Nevada Pale Ale 5 - Anchor Steam 6 - Sam Adams Winter Lager 7 - Stoudt's Winter Ale 8 - Sierra Nevada Harvest 9 - Sierra Nevada Celebration 10 - Sam Smith IPA Most Sam Adams and Stoudt's ales and beers are good (Bluepoint brewery in Long Island also has some decent ones) but I disagree with all about Dogfish's 90 and 120 minute IPAs - all these guys do is dump hops in the brew and think they have this "different" ale when the flavors aren't balanced and it's more for marketing than enjoying a good ale. Too many microbrews coming out with heavy-hopped ales, thinking that they've just discovered something great. Let's hope we see no Bud, Miller, Corona, etc. I hope this place is more like the Blind Tiger, Gingerman or dba's in NYC than the run of the mill places we have in Jersey.

Give Smuttynose IPA a try - it's my favorite IPA (for where to find it in NYC: http://www.beermenus.com/beers/smuttynose-ipa). One nice thing about IPAs is that they taste almost as good from a bottle as on tap, which makes sense given that the high hops content was a preservative for the long voyage to India. For my list I was thinking that everything would be on tap and fresh at a beer garden. I find darker beers, especially stouts, much better on tap (or fresh homebrew).
There are lots of interesting lists here and of course everyone has their own preference for types of beer. For example, I don't like wheat beers (and regard the flavored ones as an abomination) but my girlfriend likes them so finding new ones is interesting. Quote:

Tonite - a Yuengling, just to wash the dust out, then a Zywiec, and then a Piast.
I drink too, much.

Beer Snob here....specifically, I'm a fan of IPA's. Here's my list of some of my faves:
- Brooklyn Pennant Ale - Brooklyn IPA - Brooklyn Pilsner - Harpoon IPA - Troegs Hopback Amber Ale (you need to try this one) - Sierra Nevada Ale - Sierra Nevada Summerfest - Brooklyn Summer Ale - BluePoint Hoptical Illusion - BluePoint Toasted Lager - River Horse (out of Lambertsville, NJ) - Most Sam Adams beers are acceptable...but that's usually as mainstream as I'll go :)

We should organize a beer club or beer tastings in JC. I think LITM does beer tastings every now and then. Does anyone know of other places in JC that do beer tastings?

Spring 2009. Does anyone actually believe it's possible to open a bar/restaurant in Jersey city in a few months? I'll buy you all a round of your favorites if they open before the Fall.
Has anyone heard about any progress with the other restaurants opening downtown. There is a orange STOP WORK notice on the doors of the Japanese Hibachi (Teppan) place in 50 Columbus. I walk by there everyday and haven't seen any progress in a while.

Yes it's for real. this is the website - it took a while to find- Zeppelin Hall & Beer Garden. It's doesn't say much but I'm assuming (or hoping) their energies are being spent on getting the actual place open. Being a big, BIG fan of the band, I wasn't a fan of the name either at first, but its slowly starting to grow on me. I like the whole german engineering concept .... and the name lends itself to some great slogans.

Picking ten beers is difficult because there are so many different styles and breweries, and I'm always in the mood for something different. Tomorrow this list would be different, but off the top of my head here's a baker's dozen:
Cantillon and Boon Gueuze (toss up as my favorite beers in the world) Liefmans Goudenband (yes, I love sour beers) La Chouffe La Trappe Quadruppel Schlenkerla Rauchbier Urbock (perfect with a burger) Paulaner and Weihenstephan Weissbier (different styles, but I love both) Spaten Helles Lager (great thirst quencher) John Smith's Bitter (but must be hand drawn from a cask in North Yorkshire, so it's kind of a bullshit pick) Anchor Steam Victory Prima Pils And one more, my favorite cheap-ass beer: Lionshead Pilsner from Scranton, PA.

Where is this supposed to be located? Hope it's within walking distance...
my favorites depending on what I'm eating: Guinness - on tap, of course Sam Adams Hefeweizen Dogfish Head IPA - 90 or 120 Sapporo Draft Yuengling Black & Tan San Miguel - the one in the P.I. Chimay Spaten Doppel Bock and if it's free, I'll drink pretty much anything

Funny but that is the only thing I don't like about this beer garden concept is its name "Zeppelin Hall" It sounds like it was named after Led Zepplin - and even Robbert Plant is over Led Zepplin! I think the word "Zeppelin" when used in NJ connotes old Bristish rock and roll -- It feels very non German ... but hey I'll be there!
