Replacing Windows

My wife and I are looking to replace the windows in our home. Does anyone have good experience with a contractor or company in this realm? We're willing to go local or call Sears or Home Depot. We just want the best job at the best price.

My wife and I just purchased a home with central air. We need to have it serviced before turning it on to fight the summer heat.

Does anyone know a good HVAC repairman or company?

Thanks in advance.

I'd be careful about the short sale. Real estate agents will tell you anything to get you in the contract.

My wife and I were walking along Central Avenue the other day and saw that M & R Salumeria closed down. Does anyone know what happened? It was far from the best Italian grocer in the 'hood, but it's always a shame to see one of those places go.

I would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and insights. Now, I'm leaning toward staying in JC ... Maybe, I just needed a morale boost.

At the moment, Astoria or Greenpoint. Shantyirish, thanks for the civilized response.

Why Stay in Jersey City?

My wife and I have lived in the Heights for four-odd years. We keep hoping that the neighborhood might begin popping with a little life, but most places close by 9:00 with the exception of old man bars. We're thinking about leaving JC for Brooklyn or Queens. Why stay in JC? I'm ready to be convinced.

Around Journal Square, you'll find a plethora of Middle Eastern markets. In the Heights, there's Tabarak's, a good grocer/deli. If you follow the suggestion of the previous poster, there's a great Polish grocer in the Heights, too---Stanley's.

Pedro's Place

Does anyone know what the story is with Pedro's Place on Central Avenue? I've eaten there on numerous occasions, and the food is topnotch and tasty. Yet, aside from the random customer shuffling in to buy an empanada, I always seem to be the only diner in the joint. On the other hand, another nearby Spanish eatery is always packed. Is there something I should know?

Is this beer garden for real or just another rumor spread by nefarious developers?
