Anyone here know of a good local tax advisor/professional. I have a situation where the accounting firm that does the taxes for my father's estate made some mistakes and I might need to redo 3 or years worth of taxes. My taxes have always been pretty straight forward so I have always used turbo tax?

Another vote for John Ng. He's at 121 Newark across from PATH and his phone is 201-360-3981. I came to him with a stack of jumbled documents closer to confetti than to orderly records and he waved a magic wand ver them. Numbers frighten me and I find even the IDEA of doing my taxes causes anxiety. But Mr Ng put me at ease and extracted order from chaos. I wouldn't go to the trouble of writing in on this forum if I didn't think the guy was great. Check his reviews on Yelp too.

Hello all - I've registered just to post a review to this thread as I found my accountant on here over a year ago. This review is a few months overdue and is written for Chris Johnson of CAJ Tax Solutions (contact details at end).

Chris provided me with truly excellent quality of advice and service, at a fraction of the cost I would have paid at a large firm. He helped me to successfully navigate a complex tax situation, and I unreservedly recommend his tax services to anyone.

Hello. I am actually looking for a tax preparer that would specialize in construction workers. Always went to a large firm in the past and me being small compared to the corporations they handle I just got pAssed off to some junior accountant that didn't even give my return a second look. Plus I am tired of paying more every April in addition to what Uncle Sam already takes.

After messing up my return with Turbo Tax and spending way too many hours doing it myself (with Turbo Tax), I'm ready to bite the bullet. French Connection, or Ed French, in Journal Square, seems to have gathered lots of good reviews on the net. Has anyone used this firm?

Or provide a recommendation? Must be in Jersey City.

Just trying to look around before I give in, and go to H&R Block

I am posting to caution jclisters against using the services of Sal Grasso in Hoboken. We have encountered a stunning level of incompetence in his office and are paying dearly for it. We are 21 months (!!!!!!) into resolving a situation with our 2006 federal and state returns. The response from his office has been less than satisfactory. It also took me less than two seconds to see that they'd screwed up our 2007 return by treating our non-taxable scholarships as taxable income (for a net difference of over $3,000 between what we supposedly owed and were actually due in refunds).

The frustrating thing is that my husband and I make every effort to support local businesses rather than chains. But it's TurboTax or HR Block from here on out!

This guy is the best. My friend turned me on to him a few years back. His name is Steve DeTitta, he has an office in Union City. He is great and doesn't cost a lot. He owns a bunch of properties in the area and has been in Hudson County for his whoel life.

Can anyone recommend a local (Jersey City or Hoboken) CPA who is familiar with depreciation. I bought a 2-family last year intending to rent one floor but have not been able to refinance and thus pay for some basic work that needs to be done before I can rent it. I've heard depreciation deductions can be great but I'd like a CPA who specializes in landlord and real estate matters.
