They are open for private events on the weekend and semi-private events on the weekdays. http://www.henrysnj.com/henry/catering.cfm

if it's not a prime wedding day and time, you could try the upstairs areas at Maritime Parc. The food and views are both very nice and they're definitely set up for private dining.

i was also going to recommend the Hyatt, although as of a few years ago, it was significantly more expensive than Liberty House (prices might have changed though, so verify). Great views though

There's Amanda's and Zylo in Hoboken. If you wanted to venture into Journal Square, Casa Dante has a private room.

I believe Vu at the Hyatt (near Exchange Place) also has a private room. It's easy to get to by public transportation (with valet for those who are driving) and the views are amazing. I've only been once but the food was really excellent (better than Liberty House, the Embankment, and Light Horse at the same price point). Also, it seems to be pretty empty on weekends (I think most of their business is corporate) so there might be room to negotiate a good price.

This place is only open Monday thru Friday. It's not for residents of Jersey City, it's for the d-bags and Sachs-holes who work here and clog our city with obnoxious rush hour traffic. Just like Milano's or that sandwich shop next to Iron Monkey. They don't deserve business from residents.

The Brightside Tavern could probably do it. Last time I was there there was a big private event going on and we still had room to eat upstairs!

I had a party at The Merchant. Nice room and reasonably priced packages. Just beware of the parking situation.
I was told my guests could park for free at the lot on Montgomery. Our party started at 8pm. Not all of out guests arrived on time. At 9pm my guests were told there was no more parking and they had to park on the street. The manager "fixed" the problem by allowing people to keep their keys and "let themselves out" of the lot. That was not cool!

Liberty House is nice but pricey.
Zeppelin Hall now has a nice big private room you can rent - with food options, and it's own bar.... it looks nice, but not fancy....

Liberty House knows how to throw a party. It may be a bit more expensive but you know that the management and staff will know what they are doing. And they have plenty of room.
I've also been told that Maritime Parc, right next to Liberty House, is very nice. Neither of these are right within walking distance from downtown, but if it is a large family gathering I assume that many people will be coming from out of town anyway. So another advantage is that parking is easy at these places.

The Light Horse could probably do it -- they have the second floor balcony and also the back room.

We're having a family gathering this spring, and are looking for a private or semiprivate place to accommodate us for a dinner. We've contacted Liberty House, Michael Anthony's, Porto Leggero and The Embankment so far, but were wondering if there was someplace great we missed. We'd like to keep it Downtown for convenience, though Hoboken might do. Any ideas?
